“When are we gonna get some f–king help?”
“I knew it was going to be real bad, but I never expected this devastation,” said resident Ned Morgan, whose basement flooded up to 6 feet, destroying furniture, family pictures and electronics.
“They’re looting cars all over the place,” Morgan said. “This is New York City. They have to help us.”
Some Rockaways residents who work as firefighters in The Bronx and Manhattan were fuming yesterday — sitting idly in their firehouses while their neighbors and family members miles away struggled to get help.
“We’re all going crazy,” said one firefighter, who asked his name not be used for fear of retribution. “They’re not deploying any extra resources, and we’re just sitting around.”

This strikes at the heart of why we cannot and must not trust the government to be there for us. Why ANYONE wants more government intrusion is beyond me.

Paralysis by analysis c.2012. bloomberg did the same thing when ya’ll were socked in by snow 2 yrs ago, right? Took him 10 days to extricate his thumb from his ass before you could get 6th avenue plowed, IIRC.

Barry will respond to Ned Morgan’s desperate call for help in 15 minutes, not.
bayview on November 4, 2012 at 2:21 PM
The issue at hand is that there are some things that are simply either beyond the government’s reach to accomplish and/or they cannot perform them at the required rate of performance in order to keep the peace.
the proof is in the pudding folks.

Christie oughta text Captain Campaign’s cell number up to the guy and tell him to expect a callback in <15. If not, tell the guy to vote for Romney. I'm sure that'd get POTUS poopie pants' attention.
ted c on November 4, 2012 at 2:22 PM
A couple of cases of bottled water, a box of MREs, and a Mossberg 500 with #4 buckshot would allow you to help yourself and others. The looting was severely curtailed in Koreatown South Central LA when the shop owners started throwing lead at the people trying to steal from them.
All readily available items unless Bloomie has found some way to ban shotguns.
So the question is…

did I fire six rounds, or just five……?

Come on…this is Bloomy we’re talking about. Only yesterday did he finally find a couple working brain cells and cancel the marathon…on the heels of the Post revealing the massive generators sitting idle in wait in the park for the media and runners’ tents while NY’ers suffered without so much as an electric can opener that worked, not to mention the near- freezing temps at night, because hey…we all need “something to cheers about” while we dang near freeze to death and go hungry.
Rudy is missed.

Other than the Occupy group cited in another thread, has any one seen any references to Manhattans or other NYC citizens organizing to help out their fellow citizens? Are they all waiting for the government to do all the lifting or are their efforts unreported?

This is just heart breaking to read this. bho owns this, he promised to focus like a laser to getter done with this storm? Now this is bho’s katrina! bloomberg is as bad as the mayor of NO with katrina, IMO! And the looting is about the same in both?

That’s his agenda for next year.
The current helplessness of NYC residents is a condition carefully cultivated by Bloomberg and generations of Mayors, police chiefs, and Union bosses before him.

Not to mention how much healthier we are without our trans-fat, big gulps, salt, and smoking. It won’t be long before us NY’ers are a physically superior race that will be coming for all you soda-guzzling fries-salting fatties.

Your no cash value carbon credit and non-refundable tax credit will be mailed to your house once the mail box is located in the pile wood and broken dreams. Remember with all the lack of food one eats you produce less global warming gasses and in turn stop the next hurricane. /s

I do know that the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief has been deployed! I live in Oklahoma and two days ago our churches Shower Trailer and Laundry Trailer were deployed to Middleton, New York to support Chainsaw Crews and Mud Out Teams and two Feeding Units preparing over 35,000 meals a day! 100′s of volunteers from Southern Baptist Churches are heading that way as well to man those teams!

Don’t be surprised if the sophisticated and educated intellectuals , called New Yorkers , reject the bitter clingers.
burrata on November 4, 2012 at 5:16 PM
Well, let’s see…. If’n I were one u them thar red-state flyover yokels, I’da done thought to move my electronics out of the friggin’ basement, along with anything else important that I didn’t want to get wet!
This is why so many on HotAir sound like they’re “hating on” New Yorkers and New Jerseyans. Because – at least what we hear, and it corresponds to what we heard before the storm, as well – it seems that a great many New Yorkers thought they would somehow be special and the hurricane would respect their street cred or something and it would blow on by. This guy knew it would be bad, but he left all this important stuff in a below-ground-level location. It seems all these folks just assumed there would be gasoline, too. I wonder how many stocked up on canned food and neglected to consider they have electric can-openers?
This isn’t a New York/New Jersey thing. This is a bit of cabbage-throwing at the aristocrats as they ride the carts to Madame Guilloti ne. We’re mocking people who have made a point (especially in politics) that they are just so much better than all of us “bitter clingers”. I’m doing my part to help. But, I’m also hoping beyond hope that some of these arrogant sons-of-guns might learn a little humility out of this.
