The ground-glass election
Are there? Well, there are some signs. I’ve written here before that politics is all about showing up. And in recent months, people on the Right have been doing a lot of showing up. They’ve showed up at Romney-Ryan events in unprecedented numbers. They made Dinesh D’Souza’s “2016: Obama’s America” a huge hit despite a virtual blackout from traditional media. They stood in line for hours at Chick-fil-A restaurants to buy chicken sandwiches in response to politicians’ bullying. They packed houses at the “Hating Breitbart” premiere.
Will they now pack the voting booths and vote for Romney, and against Obama, in similarly unprecedented numbers? If they do, Romney will win in a landslide…
For the anti-Obama vote, on the other hand, there’s no disappointment. Getting rid of Obama, as the quote at the beginning of this column illustrates, is goal enough. Even for those who weren’t big Romney supporters in the primaries, a vote for Romney is a vote to get rid of Obama, and that’s sufficient. Those who thought that staying home in 2008 would teach the GOP a lesson have mostly either reconsidered, or decided that the lesson was learned, or that further lessons would be too costly for America.

I want to be one of the first people voting on Tuesday. I. Can’t. Wait!!!

On my hands and knees over broken glass dragging along as many as I can.

I already voted and feel the same way—there wasn’t going to be anybody or anything that was going to keep me from voting this year. This year’s vote is a double whammy. A huge part of it is the vote against Obama–a punishment, a slice of humble pie, a thumb in his fat effing eye, and the other part of it is a vote for Romney–a guy who has emerged as a stellar candidate.
Obama can kiss my ass. I went to Tea Parties from the get go in 2009, on April 15. I went to the 828 rally in DC, went to 912 events and I was at the Capitol the day before they voted for Obamacare in March 2010. I went to see 2016, I went to see Monumental, and I dropped a wad at Chick Fil A. Each one of those actions was a proxy vote against Obama and for the United States. I wish I could do more. Some things I probably can’t even recall that I did. Yet, here we are—and glenn is right, Mitt wasn’t my first choice, but I’d crawl over ground glass to vote for him.
Put that in your crack pipe and smoke it BroncoMama

Yup, we’d crawl over broken glass, we’d crawl over razor blades, we’d crawl over burning coals to vote against Obama.
And we’d turn out 100% to vote for love of country, to vote for Mitt Romney.
petefrt on November 4, 2012 at 6:37 PM
Good point about them saying a year ago Romney would need indies, just to turn around and say it isn’t enough.
blatantblue on November 4, 2012 at 6:39 PM
Oh you bet me be there. Been waiting since Nov. 2008 for the chance to send the poseur packing.
arnold ziffel on November 4, 2012 at 6:40 PM
Broken glass election is the best description. I think you can get across ground glass more easily. Broken glass is dangerous, but proves no obstacle to determined voters this time.
INC on November 4, 2012 at 6:40 PM
Look, you…. can crawl over burning coals….it’s…just thaaaaat…you’d go bankrupt…
Lanceman on November 4, 2012 at 6:41 PM

It’ll be ground to dust from so many people walking on it.

Actually, I’ve been using that ‘crawl over broken glass’ analogy about voting against Obama for years now. I believe I mean it literally.

Considering the vandalism and assaults that libs engage in during election season, crawling over broken glass to vote is a distinct possibility.
Bishop on November 4, 2012 at 6:45 PM
I have had to restrain myself from early voting; because I want to vote against Obama soooo bad and have been waiting 4 years to do it again. But I have waited to vote with the rest of the country on election day in order to help make the loudest, collective sound of rejection that I can and VOTE to end this long national nightmare.

I set a goal this year to try to convince 2 otherwise disengaged/uninterested voters to vote for Romney.
I ended up with many more. And I made sure they all voted. Got them absentee ballots, made sure they were turned in, etc.

Indeed he has. I would never have imagined he’d turn out so well, and that I’d be so enthusiastic about him and his vision for America. His five point plan nails it just about perfectly.

Arnold, I would like to share an experience with you about drinking and driving. As you well know, some of us have been lucky not to have had brushes with the authorities on our way home from the various social sessions over the years.
A couple of nights ago, I was out for a few drinks with some friends and had a few too many beers and then topped it off with a margarita. Not a good idea.
Knowing full well I was at least slightly over the limit, I did something I’ve never done before: I took a taxi home.
Sure enough I passed a police road block but because it was a taxi, they waved it past.
I arrived home safely without incident, which was a real surprise.
I have never driven a taxi before and am not sure where I got it.
petefrt on November 4, 2012 at 6:56 PM
I already voted as well. It sorta stinks having to wait for the outcome! But we’ve got this thing. 2 more days! We can do this.
Don’t let anyone tell you that we’re behind. There’s no way this is true. Polling is an inexact science. I think they’re trying their best. But it’ll never be completely accurate.
You can see it yourself. Romney is running a fine campaign. Obama is running a terrible campaign.
The only poll that matters is on Tuesday. Make it happen.
happytobehere on November 4, 2012 at 7:03 PM
I would definitely crawl over glass, but if I was required to crawl to be able to vote, and I had a choice of what I had to crawl over, I’d choose marshmallows.

To clarify, I’m not laughing at vandalism, but at Bishop’s continuing ability to frame things with dry and sardonic humor.

I’m watching Romney speak now in PA, watching his face and noting his delivery. The guy has come so far. He fine-tunes almost daily. There may be some Reagan potential here, if only we can regain control of the Senate.
He’s an unfucker-upper. He’s a turn-around master. He’s a fixer. He may not be a movement conservative, but he’s a gifted businessman who knows nothing gets fixed with socialism.
Energy. Abundant oil and gas.
Schools. Students and teachers, not unions.
Small Business. Job creation.
Deficit. Cut it.
Trade. Expand it.

I’m always surprised at how eager taxi drivers are to get out of the taxi for just some luggage and a couple dollars. Oh, and airports are a great place to get luggage.

You might crawl over broken glass to vote against Obama, but would you give it up to Sandra Fluke? That’s the real test.

Dear Penthouse,
I never thought that an encounter like this could save the nation but….
thebrokenrattle on November 4, 2012 at 7:54 PM
For a long time I’ve been in the “broken glass” camp, to vote against Obama. But I have to tell you, while watching that PA speech I could see all of the emotion welling up in him and could tell that he was really feeling the moment, that for the first time I let myself actually get excited to vote for Mitt.
stefanite on November 4, 2012 at 8:04 PM
You know what’s really weird? I was watching a speech of his yesterday, and when he was talking about his vision for America, I teared up too. I almost cried.
We are at such an awful crossroads. I never thought it would come to this in my lifetime. But here it is.
petefrt on November 4, 2012 at 9:17 PM
The funny thing is I am trying not to get too excited at work because they are all liberal and I don’t want them to vote
