New York Daily News endorses Romney after backing Obama in 2008
No, Romney’s not perfect. His overall immigration policy falls below comprehensive reform, and he’s no friend of gun control. But, under these circumstances, growing the economy takes precedence.
Offering a rosy vision of a country already on the rise, Obama argues that he would lead a resurgence by staying the course. He posits that spending in areas such as education and clean energy would be beneficial, and he sees raising taxes on high-income earners as key to “balanced” deficit reduction. Each on its own is attractive, but the whole comes up short.
The presidential imperative of the times is to energize the economy and get deficits under control to empower the working and middle classes to again enjoy the fruits of an ascendant America.
So The News is compelled to stand with Romney.

What is the point of this? Why are there all these sorry lib newspapers flipping to Romney? Is it to be cute?

Leftist propaganda outlets failed to get their boy elected, now trying to salvage what iotas of credibility they might have left.

I’ve always thought of the Daily News as a conservative paper anyway. No?

They’re putting up a head-fake for the coming Obama landslide.

Is that really it? It seems awfully pathetic that so many fervent supporters of Obama in 08 are flipping to Romney. How is it possible that the race is a toss up with that many people, even ones of influence like newspapers etc, fleeing Obama.
Something ain’t right. Either the polls are just dreadful, or all of this flipping is some weird conspiracy for attention.
happytobehere on November 4, 2012 at 12:51 PM
No. The right-leaning paper here is the New York Post. The Daily News and Newsday, two liberal papers, have endorsed Romney, which is very surprising.

The Houston Barnicle flipped from Obama to Romney mainly due to what Obama did to NASA which affected Houston. And don’t get me started on how he screwed us on the shuttle retirements. That’s unforgivable, but then again every single thing he’s done is unforgivable.

Newsday, now owned by the Dolan family of Cablevision fame also endorsed Romney today (that still doesn’t make up for what the son’s done to the Knicks and Rangers, though). Add them into the mix along with the Wall Street Journal, and four of the five New York City/Long Island daily papers endorsed Romney over Obama. No points for guessing which NYC daily is the outlier this year.

And the Staten Island Advance (motto: yesterday’s news tomorrow, badly edited and as leftist as we can get) endorsed Obama. Idiots.

The News was the city’s conservative paper up until the mid-1970s, when it began moving to the left. The 1976 “Ford to New York: Drop Dead” headline was an indication of how the paper was moving towards the Times, which in turn, ended up giving Rupert Murdoch the opening he needed in November 1976, to buy the Post from Dorothy Schiff (which at that time, was actually to the left of the Times) and turn it into the city’s conservative paper.
The News’ newsroom staff today is solidly liberal, but Mort Zuckerman is the definition of the ‘squishy moderate’ who’s actually endorsed Republicans in three of the last four presidential elections (he didn’t own the paper until the mid-90s and went for Clinton in ’96 and Obama four years ago. He is the billionaire version of the moderate, undecided swing voter).

That sure reads like a grudging endorsement!
ellifint on November 4, 2012 at 1:33 PM
You’ve got to be kidding. It’s a leftist rag. You must be mistaking it with the NY Post which is the only decent paper in NYC and the best sports and op-ed sections by far.

Internal democrat polls are showing another electoral asskicking for the democrats, just like the 2010 midterms.
If the MSM are going to foist another fascist loser like 0bama on us again in the future, they need to salvage whatever credibility they can by abandoning this 0bama before the election – which they already know he’s going to lose in a landslide.

One of the best things about a Romney win is that he’ll stop showing up here.
And KKKunta.
UltimateBob on November 4, 2012 at 2:15 PM
I don’t want either of them to leave without giving us all an epic meltdown we can dip our e-ballz in for the next year or so.
Sekhmet on November 4, 2012 at 2:28 PM
But the MSM is squawking that Obama will win. I don’t get it. These flipped newspaper endorsements are really odd.
