A president who seems not to care
I see a failure to embrace all sorts of people, even members of Congress and the business community. I see diffidence, a reluctance to close. I see a president for whom Afghanistan is not just a war but a metaphor for his approach to politics: He approved a surge but also an exit date. Heads I win, tails you lose. …
But somewhere between the campaign and the White House itself, Obama got lost. It turned out he had no cause at all. Expanding health insurance was Hillary Clinton’s longtime goal, and even after Obama adopted it, he never argued for it with any fervor. In an unfairly mocked campaign speech, he promised to slow the rise of the oceans and begin to heal the planet. But when he took office, climate change was abandoned — too much trouble, too much opposition. His eloquence, it turned out, was reserved for campaigning.
Obama never espoused a cause bigger than his own political survival. This is the gravamen of the indictment from the left, particularly certain African Americans. They are right. Young black men fill the jails and the morgues, yet Obama says nothing. Bobby Kennedy showed his anger, his impatience, his stunned incredulity at the state of black America. Obama shows nothing.

Clinically detached from reality.

Exactly. Cohen seems all disappointed in Obama for not having a sad look in his eye when he sees our modern poor. It’s hard to get that super-sad-puppy-dog pity look when surveying throngs of vastly overfed people with smart phones. Well, it’s not that hard, I guess… but you get my point.
happytobehere on October 30, 2012 at 10:37 AM
.
And there you have it. Even after being betrayed by Obama, and learning he is not the man Cohen hoped he was, and listing many of Obama’s failures and faults, Cohen still decides to vote for Obama.
I would really like to corner Cohen and ask him what his definition of “sacking the government” is.
Does it mean reducing the size of government, or does it mean spending more than it has?
BobMbx on October 30, 2012 at 10:39 AM
Too stupid for words. Spends a whole article bemoaning the failures of the Narcissist in Chief! Then is going to vote for him.
These 47% suffer from Battered Womens Syndrome. Romney was right 47% will go for the Lyin kING!

Essentially Richard Cohen is saying he doesn’t care either.

I will vote for Mitt to keep leftwing vandals from sacking us to pay for their spending sprees.

Joke’s on you, dude. There’s nothing left.
Mitsouko on October 30, 2012 at 10:54 AM
Cohen’s a bit off on some of this. In his first year Obama blew most of his political capital pushing Obama care, and then spent the next year defending it in speeches around the country.
Also in that first year the house forced through that worthless cap and trade bill, and Obama embarrassed us at the epic fail Copenhagen conference.
I think Obama really does care about this stuff, , but he’s not been a good leader on getting these bills written, plus the people don’t even want them.

In 2009, Richard Cohen was recognized as the “World’s Worst Writer” by Wonkette. Salon.com named him the #1 “Hack” in 2010. WaPo scolded him in 2007 for inappropriate behavior towards his female staffer.

Romney has shown compassion, Obama hasn’t, yet Dickey Cohen will still vote for Obama.
Oh brother.

Too bad RFK died early. He could have had an opportunity not to live up to his myths either. Real people are just so disappointing. /s

The president cares a great deal about abortion. He loves nothing more. Just because he’s “black” doesn’t mean he cares about the same causes that “Bobby” Kennedy (peace be upon him) cared about. Face it, Cohen, Obama loves abortion… it is his cause, his everything.
happytobehere on October 30, 2012 at 11:21 AM
Stuff it, Cohen. Obama is as good as you’re going to get as a liberal politician. Do you really believe Robert Kennedy would be any different as president? The problem is the message, not the messenger. Obama is about to be repudiated. The likes of you needs to be repudiated, as well. And Obama didn’t steer this country out of the financial crisis. He helped cause it. And the poor have suffered under him, as well as Bush, from the inflation to pay for their increased expenditures.
rickv404 on October 30, 2012 at 11:25 AM
Dog eat dog. Cohen can see the writing on the wall: Obama will lose. This is a preemptive column of throwing Obama under the bus to save the liberal cause. Can’t wait for the tell-alls to come out!

Don’t waste your time reading the entire article; here’s all you’ve got to know:
Every single other word can be replaced by “blah.”

Fool:
1. He diagnoses the narcissist to perfection.
2. Obama has not changed – he is clinically NPD’d, only always looking out for himself. Period.
3. Votes for him, again.
4. The fools is Cohen and his cohorts.
Out with charlatan Obama. He is what Eastwood identified him to be, a hoax/pox upon the land. Mock him and his into oblivion.
May he and the ship full of rats go to Hades, pronto.

Romney is here-to-fore vindicated.
There is Nothing Romney can say to this man, nor anything Obama can do to this man, that will cause him NOT to Vote for Obama.
So where is the Gaff for Romney to say it is a Waste of his time and money to try?
jaydee_007 on October 30, 2012 at 12:46 PM
Point of Note: I do believe that while Romney is Correct regarding Attitude He is incorrect regarding Percentage.
In Romney’s quote he was confusing two groups.
Group 1 he called 47% are those people who are Unalterable in their vote (I beleive that number is actually 36%)
Group 2 is the 47% who are not paying income taxes.
They are not the same groups.
I would also add that the 47% who pay no income taxes, when you factor in the 63% labor participation rate, becomes 29% of the Electoriate.

I’m now in favor of death panels for lefty boomer media dinosaurs such as Cohen.
It’s over Dickie.
You and your radical leftist “journalist” wife are irrelevant curios.
Go to bed ,old man.

If Republicans really are “vandals sacking the government”, wouldn’t a better term be “Robin Hoods”? After all, the government stole that money from the people. Uncle Sam is a robber baron.
hawksruleva on October 30, 2012 at 12:59 PM
Four years of trillion-dollar deficits.
Mr. Cohen, what do you think “sacking a government” actually looks like?
tbrosz on October 30, 2012 at 1:04 PM
Bingo. Hey, Richard Cohen? You know why Obama’s not the man you hoped he was? He doesn’t have to be, because YOU’RE GOING TO VOTE FOR HIM ANYWAY.
