Dude?
Among the atheists and agnostics, however, 6 percent said they pray daily.
Another 11 percent of the atheists and agnostics concede that they pray only weekly or monthly.

They must be the S.E. Cupp variety of athiests.

Huh? Praying to false idols?
rbj on October 10, 2012 at 3:11 PM
It’s just bad data. Remember that Newsweek survey on evolution that found 13% of athiests and agnostics believed that the God they don’t believe in created mankind in his present form, and another 27% of atheists and agnostics think God guided the evolutionary process? I’m thinking this is like that.

Actual percentage of self-proclaimed atheists who remain 100% atheist until their dying breath:

True. They pretend not to believe when among those they want to fit in with – in private, they ask God’s help.

You’ve analyzed their data?

That is higher than the percentage of theists that meet their god after death.

I converted to all religions so I’d be covered.
A common mistake made by religious people is that religion is a prerequisite to morals. Not so.

Suppose we’ve chosen the wrong God. Every time we go to church we’re just making Him madder and madder.

“Pablo Honey” is a crazed leftwing nut, and of course an outspoken atheist. Not surprised as the two go often hand in hand.

This is a perfect example of why this Pew poll, among others, is a joke. Why it’s reported so extensively every year I can’t imagine.

Lots of gods have beards.
A few are clean-shaven.
But riddle me this: Why, in the history of religion, has there never been a god with just a mustache?
Until they come up with a Mustache God, I’m firmly agnostic.

Is there a patron saint of porno? If there is, I bet he’s got a 70′s porno stache.

No atheists remain atheist. They create their own new Gods that meet their internal need. So there are no true atheists at all.
On the other hand, no Atheists get to meet God in the afterlife, it is impossible. While Theists who practice and try to remain faithful have a chance to meet God in the afterlife. The question is… Does it cost so much to be a Theist to make the potential risk/reward worth throwing off God?
I guess it depends on what religion it is. My generic straight from the bible religion is pretty much in line with who I am. I have no desire to worship false gods. No desire to have other mens’ wives. Do not steal. Do not covet and so forth. About the only thing it asks me to do is to tithe 10% of my income, that is somewhat hard sometimes when I am down on my luck and the family needs things more than I have. So, if it is such a burden to be a Theist to these people, which actions of these are they wishing to partake in that is so important to them that they will risk eternal damnation to partake in them. Do they really want to steal that badly? Do they really want to have affairs with married men and women? Do they have such a need to worship false gods? Do they have a deep yearning to kill others? Is 10% too much?
Hmmm. I dunno what it is they are avoiding and wanting to partake in. I do not have any atheists as friends, and if I find I have one, I will likely distance myself from them as quickly as possible.

Nice that you feel I am important enough of a presence on this board to libel me though. I feel honored.

Meh. Christians do not have a monopoly on the concept of “prayer”. Whether you want to call it that, call it a mantra, call it meditation, whatever it is…it’s all a matter of focusing and clearing your mind, and achieving peace of mind.
Anyone who wants to make an issue of it really needs to check their priorities.

“Whether you want to call it that, call it a mantra, call it meditation, whatever it is…it’s all a matter of focusing and clearing your mind, and achieving peace of mind.”
Totally different things. Many do both and they are completely different. Prayer has nothing to do with “clearing you mind”. Not a surprise, then, its not working for you.
