White House banking on Biden for debate turnaround or something
Perhaps most important as the president’s team struggles to put his campaign back on track is a renewed effort to win the three remaining debates, starting with Thursday’s face-off between Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and Representative Paul D. Ryan. Mr. Biden moved into a Delaware hotel on Sunday for three days of debate camp.
Under the tutelage of David Axelrod, the president’s chief strategist who is personally overseeing the preparations, Mr. Biden will be counseled on how to avoid Mr. Obama’s mistakes and even correct them with a more aggressive prosecution of the Republican ticket. Mr. Axelrod’s involvement highlights the stakes the Obama campaign places on the debate, and Mr. Biden has been reading “Young Guns,” the book co-written by Mr. Ryan, and practicing attack lines that Mr. Obama avoided…
The president proved as aggressive in his post-debate rallies as he was passive in the debate, but the campaign was besieged by anxious Democrats. Mr. Messina had to pep up a demoralized staff in Chicago. Mr. Obama took the blame during calls with advisers. “This is on me,” he told them. Asked by some if Mr. Kerry was at fault, Mr. Obama said no. “It wasn’t Kerry,” he sad. “Kerry was fine.”

They’re going to rely on Mr. Trillion dollar Tax INCREASE?
They’re more desperate than we thought.

Sarah Palin is smarter than Joe Biden.
Sarah Palin at worst debated Biden to a draw and at best cleaned his clock.
Paul Ryan is smarter than Sarah Palin.
Do the math.

Six days of preparation can’t fix six decades of stupid. Ryan Will crush him with his command of facts and figures- and the presentation of them.
michaelo on October 8, 2012 at 8:08 AM
Slow Joe faces the same daunting task as Barky when confronted with actual facts; without some Lefty suckup like Stephanopoulos to steer or edit him out of trouble.
The task of trying to prove he isn’t the incompetent buffoon he truly is.

The problem is that the media portrated Palin as a very bad person. The election was about Palin. The media focused on her just like they will paint Ryan the same way, an evil conservative that wants to kill grandma. They already set this in motion already, now it will only intensify.

Gallup out this morning shows Romney tied with Obama
txmomof6 on October 8, 2012 at 8:11 AM
wont’ help. Ryan won’t be dealing with vp facelift, he will be going after 0′s record, and he can be even better than Romney in dismantling it

I am expecting Biden to fain death as soon as Ryan starts pressing him. Literally playing possum until Ryan gets bored kicking him around on stage, then standing up, shouting how he won while trying to cover the pee stain on his pants, and quickly darting off stage.

Ryan vs. Biden is so unbalanced, that Ryan needs to be careful he doesn’t come off looking like the bully that’s beating up an old drunk guy. Condescending and humorous should be the game plan.
FineasFinn on October 8, 2012 at 8:18 AM
I don’t know why the Obama team thinks that’s the key to a comeback. Like Ryan and Romney aren’t prepared for it? Romney easily shot down Obama’s $5 trillion tax cut/middle class tax hike lie at the first debate. Which BTW puts to rest this ridiculous notion that Obama was somehow too passive last week. Dude went after Romney bigtime. The problem is all he has in his arsenal are lies, strawmen, and class warfare.

That I can even visualize it says volumes about our current VP & administration.

Geez Axelrod! Don’t you know you can’t teach an old Joe new tricks?
It’ll be challenge enough teaching Slow Joe basics such as the importance of things like facing the audience.
If it gets bad enough Ryan should say: “Joe, your fly is open…” just to see Slow Joe freak out.
viking01 on October 8, 2012 at 8:24 AM
Will be a cakewalk for Ryan. See, the other guy has to defend socialism. It’s why that team will both struggle in every debate.
Marcus on October 8, 2012 at 8:33 AM
Yeah that’s a bit scary.

I just read the NYT comment section on this story. These people are delusional. Can you imagine people thinking Biden is going to “shred” Ryan? Poor things.
ktrich on October 8, 2012 at 8:35 AM
If Joe is your B team and now turns into your A team, well, you just might be hosed.
ted c on October 8, 2012 at 8:39 AM
This is why I don’t think last week was 0bama playing Rope-A-Dope. Biden was selected in ’08 because the Chicago mob didn’t want anyone in the Veep slot who could be a threat to their lad, and because Biden’s years of service to the Democrats merited a better retirement. Palin kicked Biden’s bootie, and as another commenter noted, on policy, Paul Ryan is even smarter—which is no slam on Palin. Ryan’s just an alpha wonk.
This is another major reason last week’s debate was such a game-changer. 0bama has to wait a whole other week, a week in which his team is likely to take yet another loss, before having a chance at a comeback. He may, we all hope, not be able to recover.

I don’t think there is any possible way Ryan can come across as the bully. He’s too cute and seems too nice. He will just use facts, much like Romney did. Truth is, I don’t believe Biden will do bad though, which will be called a draw.
mrscullen on October 8, 2012 at 8:43 AM
Ryan has said Biden is a skilled and experienced politician and will be formidable.
A head-fake one hopes.
CorporatePiggy on October 8, 2012 at 8:44 AM
Everyone also forgets that the questions will be skewed. Ryan will be asked about Akin and his abortion stance when it comes to rape and incest. I’m sure there will be more than one question on the topic. Gay marriage will be asked about as well. It won’t be such a slam dunk IMO as Romney’s was because that debate was literally all about policy.
mrscullen on October 8, 2012 at 8:49 AM
I just hope that Biden makes one of his classic gaffes.
I was thinking about the next Obama vs. Romney debate.
Since Obama’s disciples think that he was just off his game, the expectations are going to be sky high for him to show that he is truly The One.
It will be like the Emperor flamboyantly strutting his stuff to prove that his clothes are real.
justltl on October 8, 2012 at 9:11 AM
Slow Joe will do allright. The only thing he has to worry about is falling into the trench where the bar has been lowered.
Uniblogger on October 8, 2012 at 9:12 AM
Joe, on the other hand, is going to go full retard.
He can’t help it.
After all, it’s not like there is some different Joe under there that he can call upon to be anything other than what he is- a buffoon.
justltl on October 8, 2012 at 9:17 AM
Yeah…that’s why Joe Biden is used so much on the campaign trail….
Most of the reaction will be…”What if Obama had chosen Hillary instead of Joe?…what a difference that would be.”
I hope Joe goes ape-poop wild…he loves to talk condescending and he wants everyone to know that he is the know it all.
albill on October 8, 2012 at 9:23 AM
Yep, but it’s the Democrats who are the real threat to granny.
Been reading some of the lib blogs, and they’re all harping on the Romney “lie” about Obama’s $716 Medicare cuts. I hope this meme comes up in the Ryan/Biden debate, because it is beyond silly.
It is a fact that the Obamacare law cuts $716 Billion from Medicare spending — but the Democrats want seniors to believe that their Medicare benefits won’t be affected, because those hundreds of billions of dollars in cuts are only to Medicare providers (that is, the doctors and hospitals that treat Medicare patients). LOL.
If the government was running a program that paid private food service companies to provide meals to seniors, and that program reimbursed the food companies $100 a week per senior, and the government slashed the reimbursement rate to $45 a week — would seniors believe that they’d still be getting the same benefits? Don’t worry seniors, you are still entitled to the same number of meals each week! LOL. This is what we get when we put people in charge of the government who’ve never worked in the private sector, have no idea how businesses operate, and don’t understand anything about money.

Sarah Palin made Joe fake cry. I want Paul Ryan to make him really cry.

Joe has been around the block many more times than Paul Ryan, so I wouldn’t count him out. Hopefully we don’t have a Lloyd Bentsen vs. Dan Quayle style debate. I know Ryan is smarter than that, but the media will be all in on trying to stop the RR momentum, so anything is possible.
