Just eliminate ALL deductions and have everyone pay a flat percentage. That is the most fair system ever. The more you make, the more you pay, but everyone pays the same %.

No the most fair system is where everyone pays a flat $ amount. That is how you make people pay for the government they demand. It is how you prevent big government. Taxing income is unfair because those who demand big government pay the least for big government. The next best fair tax is to tax consumption. Basically a national sales tax. Flat, no deductions, all one % for everything from medical devices to art to massage to dental work.

Not with the hubris of insisting that “there was no mistake”. That is an immature reflexive response that is unattractive to many people (undecideds). Admittedly, I would be defensive myself, to the detriment of my purpose.

Most on this site are freeloaders too. Everyone that takes a tax break for children, home mortgage interest, etc is a freeloader. Everyone that collects SS and Medicare are freeloaders. Why should I have to pay for your home, kids, healthcare, etc?

And they probably won’t forgive him anyway… Sigh, this is frustrating. “Completely wrong” is caving.

He did not back down… How many weeks did he cover up the fact that he knew it was wrong and not just simply poorly stated in an informal way?

Oops, sorry, I forgot, we only hold the other team accountable for these things.

But hey, while it was ginning up the base, he was totally loving it.

Don’t know if he’s saying he’s wrong on the numbers (fact checkers did a ‘technical’ debunking of the stat) or wrong morally…either way, it takes a strong man to admit a ‘wrong’ (has Obama ever expressed contrition for past controversial statements?). Don’t think so.

The 47% card needed to be cut off at the knees–too easily demagogued by the Left. It has been toxic to his campaign, giving Obama momentum.

Maybe when Romney has the bulk of the media establishment hanging from his crotch he could get away with insulting Americans with impunity.

Good move. He had this keyed up for the debate, anyway. Obama just never brought it up.

I agree. Romney conflated some numbers in his infamous 47% remarks — there is a sizable group who’s going to vote for Obama no matter what Romney says, there is a group of people who don’t pay income taxes, there is a group of people with an entitlement mentality; and there’s a good deal of overlap in those three groups, but they’re not all one and the same.

I think his statement was a sloppy, but honest mistake, which was easy to make in an informal setting like that, and I think it’s good that he’s willing to admit that he misspoke. Contrast this to the various ways we’ve been told Obama’s problems are all due to messaging and context. (i.e. we’re told: Obama’s never wrong; you people just don’t understand him.)

I think everyone wants a strong and smart leader, but we also appreciate one who recognizes he’s not infallible.

This apology deflates Obama’s attacks and demagoguery on Romney for this comment. That’s all. The O Team doesn’t have much and Romney is taking away one of their life lines.

No I don’t. But I don’t think he thought Romney would come out that strong. Only a modest miscalculation.
Obama is an Alinsky-ite. And one of the main tenets of that bunch is to ridicule the opponents stregnth. Relentlessly.
Therefore, rope-a-dope the debate ( one night timeframe) and then mock via the campaign trail for a week or two.
Which do YOU think will be in the press more ?
