Poll: Obama’s lead over Romney on economic issues disappears
In the latest Post-ABC poll, 43 percent of voters express favorable opinions about Obama’s economic agenda, while 40 percent say the same of Romney.
Compare that relative parity on economic plans to the 20-point edge Obama held over McCain in a 2008 election eve poll, and you begin to grasp the challenge before Obama when it comes to winning the economic argument this fall.
Go slightly deeper into the numbers, and Obama’s economic issues are even more acute. Among electorally critical independent voters, nearly three times as many have intensely negative impressions of Obama’s plan than positive ones. The news isn’t great for Romney either, though; independents break exactly 2-to-1 strongly against his economic plan.

Sad that such a lead ever existed in the first place.

Isn’t this the same polling outfit that sample democrats at a +12 over republicans.
Obama is toast!

I’m skeptical that such a lead or even parity exists today.

How could Obama ever have been ahead on economic matters?
It’s absolute proof that either the U.S. public is utterly stupid, or the media lie, or the people lie to the pollsters.

Add this spin to your incredulity.

Last week: “The private sector is doing just fine.”
This week: “My re-election campaign is doing just fine.”

Maybe I haven’t been paying attention, but I haven’t read what Romney’s plan is yet.
I know what Obama’s plan is and it has nothing to do with private sector. Well, nothing but crippling the private sector at every turn.
I’ve heard Romney say the private sector needs to be unleashed, but no specific plan how that would occur. Unless it’s as simple as “get government out of the way” and if that is the plan, I fail to see how so many people would be opposed to that.

I’m now very curious to see Obama’s much ballyhooed “econ” speech set for tomorrow. He has a pattern of creating expectations for speeches that don’t deliver.

This.

The only plan Romney has actually discussed is his support for tying minimum wage increases with the inflation rate. So by 2016, the minimum wage will be somewhere around $15/hr or so. Because that will spur job growth among the highschool/college-age demo, according to Romney.
Other than that, and bit of empty pro-drilling rhetoric, Romney hasn’t released detailed economic plans yet. Neither has Obama.

How is this possible? Governor Romney owns not one but TWO Cadillacs, one six years old and one three years old. He’s out of touch!
slickwillie2001 on June 13, 2012 at 1:22 PM
He’s got a 59-point plan, which you haven’t read. He’s endorsed the Ryan budget.
What exactly was the bimbo, never-ran candidate’s plan?
The Count on June 13, 2012 at 1:27 PM
Isn’t odd that you only ever hear the number of steps in that proposal? You never hear what any of those steps are though, it’s almost like the entire point of releasing a 59-step plan was to say “Look at me, I’m smart, I’m releasing a 59-step plan! Don’t bother reading them though, and don’t expect me to elaborate further, just remember that my plan has more steps than the other guy’s.”
Of course, all he needs is 5 or 6 main points to push, but that would require actively pushing specific positions on tax reform and that might annoy a potential voting block and people might actually expect something specific from his administration. So instead he’s releases 59-steps-to-nowhere knowing that no one can remember any of them, and as such, he’ll never have to follow through on anything specific if he wins in November.

Sometimes solutions to complex problems require more than a bumper sticker to explain. But, the good news for you is that there’s still a guy in the race that specializes in the rah-rah platitudes that you’re looking for.
The Count on June 13, 2012 at 1:45 PM
So what are those 59-steps again?
Step1: Release 59-step Proposal
Step2-58:
Step59: Profit!

Thanks for making my point for me.

So are you in favor of mandatory increases in the minimum wage? Cause that’s one of Romney major proposals.
Buckshot Bill on June 13, 2012 at 2:00 PM
Things to keep in mind.
1: WaPo/ABC polls historically aren’t predictive, and have consistently given democratic large polling advantages since at least the 2000 election.
2: The last few national polls WaPo demographic breakdown skewed towards democrats by absurdly optimistic margins. I haven’t found the ratios on this poll, but you can expect that its similar.
3: This is a poll of, “adults,” not registered voters or likely voters. These historically favor democrats heavily.
So the fact that the poll shows Obama losing ground despite these advantages, is really good news for Romney.
