Romney’s GOP rivals should hold grudges
The love affair with Mitt—this newfound nausea of niceness—raises a bigger question: What is to be said to all the Republicans who donated money to the anti-Romney candidates, volunteered their time, and argued with friends and family about the appropriateness of strapping a dog to the top of their car? Were they all chumps? Was this bitter, tough primary just a game? Were any of the vicious invectives thrown at Romney sincere? We don’t all have to be Hatfields and McCoys—even I’m willing to acknowledge that went a little too far—but there’s nothing wrong with standing firm behind your own candidacy and ideas, and staying that way. For an appropriate mourning period, at any rate. Poor Seamus, at least, deserves better.
Anyone remember the good old days, when political battles were hard-fought and losers stayed sore? After Ted Kennedy challenged Jimmy Carter’s renomination in 1980, Carter held a grudge for thirty years. Gerald Ford was so ticked at Ronald Reagan after their 1976 primary battle that Ford carried the grudge to his grave, allowing his unkind words about Reagan to slip into a book published after Ford’s death. Not every candidate has to be a jerk about it. When Adlai Stevenson lost—for a second time in a row—to Dwight D. Eisenhower, he quoted Lincoln about the boy who stubbed his toe: “He was too old to cry, but it hurt too much to laugh.”

Like when Kerry made Edwards his running mate or when Obama was so bitter he made Hillary Secretary of Stat…oh damn, wrong narrative?

Everyone on the right hates obozo too much to allow bitter feelings over the primaries get the best of them. Plus, one of my biggest fears about Mitt was that he’d run a McCain like campaign, and so far he has actually taken the fight to the clown.

Get over yourself and fall in. 2012 is too important for petty grudges.
phxconservative on May 31, 2012 at 10:30 PM
What a childish attempt to drive wedges in the GOP coalition.
The left really must think we’re the rubes they think we are. Boy are they in for a surprise.

Nah, it’s much more fun watching leftists eat each other.

What a dumb piece. They’re Republicans and want to see Obama gone, so they support the team. What is so difficult about that?

Gimme a break. We’re gonna beat your ass come November. Get over it.

Meh. I was a Newt supporter at first but Mitt won fair and square. Neither Newt or Santorum had the campaign apparatus to defeat Mitt….and that’s not Mitt fault.

Not until after the election and Øbama is on that helicopter headed for Andrews AFB and thence to Chicago, or Hawaii or where ever. Thanks for your obviously sincere concern, though, JackAss.

Well as a Romney supporter I am holding a grudge. I saw Fox News flat out lie. I saw Ed repeat lies. over and over.
Now the perpetrators of those lies are all taking it back… because they were flat out lies.
But I know who to trust now and Hot Air isn’t worthy. And forget believing what I hear on Fox.
I have to get news somewhere but these sources sold out to keep Mitt out with lies.
So if you want a friend in politics get a dog. Name him Seamus and strap him safely and humanely to the car just as Mitt did and he will love you for life.
But most bloggers can’t be trusted.

It’s unwise to take politics personally.

I have grudges against the democrat party ever since Jimmy Carter.

The great thing about this article is that he can pretty much recycle the theme before each election. What, he didn’t have a June 2008 article he could’ve copied?

I vote for Newt in my states primary, but Romney’s now my parties nominee. This upcoming election is far to important to hold any grudges, Obama and the socialist left need to be defeated before they send this country over the cliff. Romney give them HELL, you have my support.
Beastdogs on May 31, 2012 at 11:24 PM
It’s possible to hold a grudge but still vote for or “support” the nominee. But expecting people to not hold any sounds like a form of political correctness, imo.

Anybody but Obama, Anybody but Obama, Anybody but Obama…..

I have nothing but respect for the first two of these groups, but any douche who degraded himself by making this last attack is entitled to nothing but contempt.

This is silliness. I’ve seen Ed make arguments I thought were wrong, just like every other blogger and pundit in the history of politics, but he has not demonstrated willful dishonesty. There is no indication that he “sold out” to anyone, whatever that even means. It was pretty obvious that his support for Santorum was genuine, whether or not it was wrong-headed.
If you’ve gotten so attached to a politician that you take criticism of them personally, then you should seriously consider a break from reading about politics, before you become a reverse angryed.

Lefties/Libbies/Proggies always trying to stir the pot. Or smoke it.
I’m a libertarian atheist and yeah, there are Conservatives I disagree with quite a bit. Didn’t vote (R) or (D) last time. Regretting it a bit, I freely admit. But McCain? Really? Sheesh.
But Obama and his direction are much more disagreeable. Obama and his ilk are dishonest. Romney appears to be honest.
I’m not going to list all the characteristics that make Obama one of the greatest dangers to this country’s future. And that’s why Romney gets my vote this time. Perhaps he’ll show me over four years a reason to vote for him again in 2016.
But for now, Obama has to go. I don’t have any say over Reid and Pelosi, but if I did, they’d go too. (I know, Reid has 5 more years.)

During the primary I was an anyone-but-Mitt-Newt-or-Rick guy. I stated many times that I despise all three, and I still do.
My dislike of Mitt has nothing to do with his dog. I would do the same thing he did. I dislike him because he is a liberal, pandering, statist, opportunist.
He’s now the Republican nominee and it’s time to rally around NotObama. There is absolutely nothing more important than getting the communists out of the White House. For all his faults, Romney knows that the business of America is business which means jobs and prosperity.
