Going bump in the night
Sleepwalking is surprisingly common among Americans, with about 3.6% of U.S. adults — 8.5 million — rising in the wee hours of the night to wander around.
A disorder caused by arousal from non-REM sleep, sleepwalking is very common during childhood and tends to decrease with age. ”It’s dangerous because it is quite a lot of people,” says lead researcher Dr. Maurice Ohayon, a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine. “Sleep walking is less dangerous if you are home and there is someone to take care of you. But if you’re alone or not in your home, you could hurt yourself. You could fall or do something inappropriate.”

heh. I was thinking of something else. I guess the headline would’ve read “bumpity bump bump”…..but, alas, Allah wouldn’t know nothin’ bout that./

I slept walked as a kid. Haven’t done it since. The ’70s were great.

So now 3.6% constitutes “surprisingly common?” I guess that makes homosexuality common hence all teh ghey coverage on Hot Gas recently.

Why in the world would the name of a drug used in a comment be censored? Is there any reason involved or is it just a bunch of delusional monkeys with keyboards and broadband connections?

Based on last week’s story, I figured this was going to be some sort of Part II report on late-night breastfeeding.

I once woke up with a loaded shotgun in my hand, and I loaded it while asleep. My guns and ammo are never together anymore. Not great for home protection, but unless there’s imminent danger, best not for me to have a gun nearby.

Are you saying that stuff eliminates sleepwalking, or causes it? It works pretty well to knock me out when I’m dealing with insomnia, but it also makes me have essentially no memory about whatever happened from about 20 minutes after taking the pill until I wake up the next morning. So… I hope I’m not sleepwalking during that time.

That’s pretty scary. I’ve avoided having loaded guns near me when I sleep for the same reason. I once locked myself out of a motel room virtually naked while sleepwalking. You’d be amazed at what you’re capable of asleep.
