Gary Johnson wins Libertarian Party nominations, rips GOP over Grenell’s resignation
“I believe the majority of americans are fiscally responsible and socially tolerant,” Johnson told BuzzFeed in a phone interview. “I believe the majority of Americans could care less about whether or not there is a gay individual working in the Romney campaign.” Romney’s newly hired foreign policy spokesman Richard Grenell was openly gay, a fact that raised the ire of social conservatives, whose reaction resulted in Grenell’s leaving the campaign.
“It speaks volumes to the intolerance that continues to be present in the Republican Party,” Johnson said. He said he doesn’t attach that intolerance to the majority of Republicans but to “the activists driving that agenda.”
“That intolerance is why the world vilifies Republicans,” Johnson continued. “It’s why I have never worn a Republican t-shirt in my life. There is a certain Republican dogma I just cannot defend. Homophobia is one of those issues.”

Gary Johnson = John Anderson.
The election is about Obama.

If only we had Reagan, we would have a full replay of the 1980 election.
Steve Eggleston on May 6, 2012 at 10:29 AM
Traitor.
I have no use for a politician that will run in one Party’s primary and then go 3rd Party. It shows just what kind of character he has.

That’s not correct! Right field is Never Mentioned.
ExpressoBold on May 6, 2012 at 10:32 AM
As someone who worked for Anderson’s campaign and then voted for Carter (you don’t know how much it pains me to admit that), I’d suggest people think long and hard about where America is heading right now. If we can’t learn from our own and others’ mistakes, what was the point of making them?
When there is a solid third party, I’ll jump but right now, I’ll hold my nose and vote for Romeny.
CarterObama must not be reelected.Fallon on May 6, 2012 at 10:37 AM
We don’t, of course. Romney isn’t nearly as strong. But the way this is going, he may not have to be.
Mr. D on May 6, 2012 at 10:37 AM
As an Independent, I’ve voted Republican most often, but this year, I’m voting for Gary Johnson. When Republicans made it a party platform to control reproductive rights of women, I ran from the brand. Romney can’t win because of it. The country needs a new start, and that starts with Johnson

Yeah, the repeal of Roe v. Wade is right around the corner, February, 2013 just as soon as Romney zeroes out the welfare entitlements that fund WIC; no more free BC, Ms. Fluke!
.
This is your false one-plank issue? What about the Democrat embrace of out-of-control public mayhem and rape-centric anarchy in the OWS gatherings? Didn’t that drive you into the Johnson camp, as well? If so why didn’t you mention it?

Anyone who speaks on behalf of the family is a homophobe in your book. A word quite misused by you progressives.
hawkdriver on May 6, 2012 at 11:13 AM
Maybe I’m wrong (I wasn’t born for Reagan’s election), but wasn’t Reagan doing much worse in polling, etc at this point in the race than Romney? Didn’t Reagan’s “strength” become something that people realized as a matter of fact only after the election?
I get that Romney’s not as inspirational a leader as Ronald Reagan, few are. But, we’re also not facing an evil empire in the USSR, we’re facing a giant national debt and entitlement system ready to collapse. It’s a different conflict of visions, it seems like 8 months from now every could be saying that this election played right into Romney’s strength as a former consultant who fixes things.
The VP pick is going to be the most important pick of Romney’s life.
cpaulus on May 6, 2012 at 11:23 AM
I agree.
Mimzey on May 6, 2012 at 11:24 AM
Anyone who cuts one of their own OUT of the “family” because they aren’t “traditional” is a homophobe.
People should be able to marry whomever they love/want.
The Fischers, and Bauers, and the Jeffres of the world are antiquated jackasses who sow nothing but hatred towards gay people, and it needs to stop. People like them need to be marginalized and shunned, not the gay people who just want to be happy with whomever they love WHILE enjoying the same benefits that people in traditional marriage enjoy.
Why are homophobes so against gay marriage? It’s not like traditionally married people are any better at raising children than they are/might be. Look at all the screwed up marriages in this world. If traditionally married people were perfect in how they raised children they might have a leg to stand on in their trying to limit gay people from being married, but they’re not.
SauerKraut537 on May 6, 2012 at 11:26 AM
I see you still invent conversations and points not made.
hawkdriver on May 6, 2012 at 11:30 AM
Dakine.
hawkdriver on May 6, 2012 at 11:31 AM
Anti-religious bigot.
hawkdriver on May 6, 2012 at 11:34 AM
LOL! You said that they were speaking out against gays on behalf of the family and I brought up the fact that it is they who are ejecting gays FROM the family and saying they can’t have families of their own and somehow that’s inventing conversations to you?
Why don’t you expound on what you said initially then? What did you mean by what you said?
SauerKraut537 on May 6, 2012 at 11:34 AM
People can marry whomever they want. This is something the gay marriage movement doesn’t get because it undermines their argument. Gay marriage isn’t banned in the United States, it just isn’t recognized by the government. Bigamy is banned. Interracial marriage used to be banned before the Civil Rights movement, but gay marriage isn’t banned. I’ve been to gay weddings before, no cops showed up to stop it.
Libertarians are taking the wrong tact with gay marriage (because in reality they aren’t libertarians). The question shouldn’t be whether or not the government should be the authority on gay marriage, it should be why is the government involved in marriage in the first place?
For me God is the authority over my marriage, not government. For a gay couple it can, and should, be whatever moral authority they believe sanctions the marriage and government isn’t the end all be all for moral authority.
cpaulus on May 6, 2012 at 11:34 AM
Without the religious bigot there is no anti religious bigot.
SauerKraut537 on May 6, 2012 at 11:35 AM
You’re claiming I’m this guy again? Whoever this guy is, he really got under your skin and made quite an impression on you…
SauerKraut537 on May 6, 2012 at 11:37 AM
Actually, they typically get kicked out because such behavior is regarded as “sinful” or “immoral.” That’s different than merely breaking with tradition.
Questions if that’s to be taken literally:
1.) Do you wish to remove the consensual element of marriage, or can I simply marry whomever I wish, period?
2.) Do you wish to remove all incestual restrictions? Should I be able to marry my sister or mother? If so, how do you deal with the mental retardation issue that’s prevalent among children born from incestuous relationships? If not, why not?
3.) Do you wish to remove the monogamous aspect to marriage? Should I be able to be married to 4, 5, or 6 people at once? If not, why not?
4.) Do you wish to remove age restrictions? If I love a six-year old, should I be allowed to marry them? If not, why not?
5.) What is the point of marriage in your mind? What is its purpose? If it is not about establishing a relationship dedicated to solely one individual to focus on that provides for a framework in which to create and raise children, then what is it for?
Stoic Patriot on May 6, 2012 at 11:38 AM
No, I didn’t. You prove my point you make yours up. You’re simple.
Becasue, thaose points were not made and that conversation never took place. Is English your second language?
Why don’t you expound on what you said initially then? What did you mean by what you said?
SauerKraut537 on May 6, 2012 at 11:34 AM
hawkdriver on May 6, 2012 at 11:38 AM
Strawman.
Mimzey on May 6, 2012 at 11:39 AM
I don’t have to. You “expound” on my comments without me having to say anything. All invented points. And you simply calling religious people bigots because they disagree with you is just more proof of your own bias. I could mine a ton of your own rude, bigoted and narrow-minded comments you’ve made over the years against Christians.
hawkdriver on May 6, 2012 at 11:41 AM
It’s interesting, because most political consultants say not to focus on the “social issues”. Perhaps that only applies to conservative Republicans, because some in the media know that the American people generally are not socially liberal. That would include a sizable portion of the D-crat base.
jmangini on May 6, 2012 at 11:49 AM
Then say something clearly so I don’t have to try to read into what you said.
You said
What did you mean by that?
If you’re going to speak in crypto speak then don’t speak at all.
I took it to mean that you thought Fischer, Bauer, and Jeffres were speaking out against gay marriage and the gay lifestyle FOR THE FAMILY, and intimated that they were “homophobes” for doing so.
What else did you mean by that?
SauerKraut537 on May 6, 2012 at 11:49 AM
Who?
John the Libertarian on May 6, 2012 at 11:51 AM
…intimated that they were homophobes IN MY BOOK for doing so…
SauerKraut537 on May 6, 2012 at 11:52 AM
What the he11 are you talking about in that comment? I didn’t say you were anyone. Everyone does seem to want to jump in and claim you’re the Asian P0rn guy but I think thats pretty unfair to you. There could be plently of SauerKraut537s out there. Just because you’re the only one we’ve ever read about doesn’t mean there aren’t others. Totally unfair to you.
hawkdriver on May 6, 2012 at 11:53 AM
I don’t understand, where are the hardcore Gov. Romney supporters? During the primary they called his opponents and anyone who thought about supporting them, everything but a child of God. This guy is going to actually take votes from him, so where is the outrage? And no one gave a flying flip about Grenell.
Cindy Munford on May 6, 2012 at 11:55 AM
Okay, I know that might have been a rather complex sentence for you to indest. What I meant was anytime speaks in support of the family, you call them a homophobe.
Sorry if straightforward comments lean “crypto”, to you.
You took too much.
Nothing. It was a pretty simple observation of your common debate points. I’m waiting for you to pull out the mean suit.
hawkdriver on May 6, 2012 at 11:57 AM
meat suit…
hawkdriver on May 6, 2012 at 11:57 AM
LOL! You were replying to my comments specifically, and replied to them, but then stuck a comment or two in saying “Dakine” in one, and “anti religious bigot” in the other.
In the past you’ve claimed I’m some guy named Dakine, or used that different moniker in the past here and had “resurrected” as Sauerkraut537, so I assumed those two comments were directed at me. You also googled my username and some guy showed up with the username on an Asian porn site (so i’m that same guy apparently)…
LOL! whatever hawk…
SauerKraut537 on May 6, 2012 at 11:59 AM
Are you nuts. Does every comment that someone posts apply to you?
hawkdriver on May 6, 2012 at 12:02 PM
They’re NOT crypto… I got exactly what you said hawk, you were trying to ACT as if I wasn’t addressing what you said… was “putting words into your mouth”… Implying that i’m “nutty” and answering arguments that aren’t there…
whatever man…
without the religious bigot there is no anti religious bigot.
the anti gay sentiment among society is rooted in the religious proscriptions against gay behavior as stated in the bible/koran/insert religious text here… and EVERYone knows the bible/koran/insert religious text here is inerrant.
SauerKraut537 on May 6, 2012 at 12:04 PM
Can you post any comment I’ve made claiming that you were someone else? I honestly don’t recall.
hawkdriver on May 6, 2012 at 12:05 PM
LOL! You were replying to me!!!! YOU replied to me, not the other way around… That applies to me does it not?
SauerKraut537 on May 6, 2012 at 12:06 PM
Gary Johnson doesn’t tolerate intolerance. If there’s one thing Gary Johnson just can’t stand, he cannot abide, will point up at every opportunity, it’s intolerance.
Paul-Cincy on May 6, 2012 at 12:06 PM
Dude, you never fail to freak me out with your unhinged assertions of conversation points that never took place. Do you hear voices too. Seriously, someone defends the family here and you call them a homophobe. It was a pretty simple point. Nothing else can be taken from it.

If the purpose of marriage is to provide for a framework in which to create and raise children, what’s your problem with polygamy?
If the one individual you focus on is not able to create children your purpose of marriage falls apart. Polygamy would eliminate this problem.
Gelsomina on May 6, 2012 at 12:11 PM
LOL! You just HAVE to try to make ME out as the nut don’t you? I understand, it’s human nature.
SauerKraut537 on May 6, 2012 at 12:11 PM
God forbid the Republican party ever gets infected with libertarianism. Hopefully Johnson will fade into oblivion, and quickly. Your humanism, Mr. Johnson, may well sink the republic.
paul1149 on May 6, 2012 at 12:12 PM
LOL!
blah blah blah… Don’t like hearing the truth, just claim your debate opponent is nuts and unhinged… That’ll fix it.
SauerKraut537 on May 6, 2012 at 12:13 PM
You do well on your own.
hawkdriver on May 6, 2012 at 12:13 PM
And so do you hawk… lol
SauerKraut537 on May 6, 2012 at 12:15 PM
Traditionally the answer to why polygamy is bad is that if you end up creating children with multiple women, your focus becomes divided between multiple families, and your ability to provide and care for them diminished. It also invites questions as to who takes priority.
Stoic Patriot on May 6, 2012 at 12:19 PM
Hmm, I think you misunderstood me. I really didn’t mean that as a disarming compliment. I meant you do well making yourself to be a nut.
I mean no disrepect, but when your conversation gets agitated and you start with the uppercasing of words or whole sentences like you’re screaming at the person you’re talking to, it just gets hard to read. Unhinged was probably too strong a word on my part. But that on top of trying to figure out how to be polite and converse with you while not falling into feeling the need to prove these negatives you assert in points the other person never even made… Well, let’s just say it’s difficult.
