Gary Johnson wins Libertarian Party nominations, rips GOP over Grenell’s resignation
“I believe the majority of americans are fiscally responsible and socially tolerant,” Johnson told BuzzFeed in a phone interview. “I believe the majority of Americans could care less about whether or not there is a gay individual working in the Romney campaign.” Romney’s newly hired foreign policy spokesman Richard Grenell was openly gay, a fact that raised the ire of social conservatives, whose reaction resulted in Grenell’s leaving the campaign.
“It speaks volumes to the intolerance that continues to be present in the Republican Party,” Johnson said. He said he doesn’t attach that intolerance to the majority of Republicans but to “the activists driving that agenda.”
“That intolerance is why the world vilifies Republicans,” Johnson continued. “It’s why I have never worn a Republican t-shirt in my life. There is a certain Republican dogma I just cannot defend. Homophobia is one of those issues.”

Does Gary Johnson really have the clout to cut into Romney’s share?
ExpressoBold on May 6, 2012 at 9:04 AM
Uh-oh.
ddrintn on May 6, 2012 at 9:04 AM
Let me predict the obvious. The MSM will promote Johnson and push his Third Party candidacy in hopes of siphoning votes away from the GOP. Even if Johnson gets 3 or 4% it could make all the difference between Romney or 4 more years of OWH(Occupy the White House).
NickDeringer on May 6, 2012 at 9:05 AM
The libertarians may hit 3% this time around. In which case Romney’s toast.
ddrintn on May 6, 2012 at 9:06 AM
LOL…if Johnson gets 4%, you’re looking at Romney-as-new-Goldwater-or-Mondale.
ddrintn on May 6, 2012 at 9:07 AM
Obama, Romney, and Johnson. Sounds like “Larry, Curly, and Moe” to me.
Worst. Election. Ever.
Stoic Patriot on May 6, 2012 at 9:08 AM
By the way, who’s been spreading “homophobic dogma”? I don’t recall some huge outcry over Grenell’s hiring.
ddrintn on May 6, 2012 at 9:09 AM
Heh…the most beatable incumbent in my lifetime, and that includes Carter, and the GOP will mess it up. It never ceases to amaze me, the stupidity of Republicans.
ddrintn on May 6, 2012 at 9:11 AM
I’d LOVE to vote for Johnson – but I think my vote is better positioned to skewer the GOP if I cast it for OBAMA.
But – for those who can’t stomach to pull the lever for Ogabe – then Johnson is your man and I highly recommend you go for him.
HondaV65 on May 6, 2012 at 9:11 AM
No, no, this cannot be. I’ve been told for months now it’s the Religious Conservatives who will split the vote.
Vote for Mitt.
Get rid of President Obama.
And then join The Conservative Party.
hawkdriver on May 6, 2012 at 9:13 AM

It was all in the fair and balanced, non-partisan, unbiased MSM outlets that social cons were going to leave the (R) party and form their own Crusader Party. I remember. Romney had no choice but to fire that guy… what’s his name?

Maybe the Republicans should give people something to vote except for “He’s not Obama”
Notorious GOP on May 6, 2012 at 9:14 AM
Johnson is full of cr*p.
Blake on May 6, 2012 at 9:14 AM
That’s slander, pal. You’ll be hearing from Larry’s, Curly’s and Moe’s lawyers, Dewey, Cheatem and Howe.
Steve Eggleston on May 6, 2012 at 9:15 AM
then why did he show is mug on those earlier debates…
what a maroon
cmsinaz on May 6, 2012 at 9:16 AM
The problem is, if that happens the establishment/moderate wing/squish contingent/whatever will be totally ascendant with conservatives and the TP taking the back seat permanently — and with absolutely nowhere to go. It’s a dilemma.
ddrintn on May 6, 2012 at 9:16 AM

I think it should be called “The Constitution Party” or “The Constitutionalist Party.”
ExpressoBold on May 6, 2012 at 9:17 AM
Without a doubt. A hard leftist, a soft leftist vetted by desperate rightwingers, and a complete political nobody. We’re screwed.
MelonCollie on May 6, 2012 at 9:18 AM
Sore loser laws should be in effect nationally. If you believe in a party, run with it. When people don’t recognize your genius and you run off crying to another party, you gotta wonder why you tried in the first party in the first place.

If it’s true, it’s not slander, my good man. Dewey, Cheatam and Howe have a bad track record against frivolous lawsuits such as this. I say, court costs and defense fees, full steam ahead!
ExpressoBold on May 6, 2012 at 9:19 AM
Maybe it should be called – the Non Composite American’s Party
Dr Evil on May 6, 2012 at 9:22 AM
In case Ron Paul coughed the ball up. He didn’t.
JohnGalt23 on May 6, 2012 at 9:22 AM
Ha, ha, ha. Johnson’s a nutball, so out come the Hot gas nutballs to cheer him on. His pro-gay, pro-drugs agenda might “siphon” a few votes from one of the candidates, but it won’t be Romney. This site truly is going the way of Charles Johnson. There’s not much left here but the wackos. So, so, so boring.

Non Composite…. oh I get it! Would 50 million other people get it , though?
ExpressoBold on May 6, 2012 at 9:25 AM
I agree. But President Obama needs to be defeated. Yet, if after that is at least accomplished, (with even a warm ham and cheese sawnwich from the GOP), if enough broke away and joined The Conservative Party and then presented a viable conservative candidate to primary him in 2016 it would be a start. It is at least an avenue where none exists for us with republicans.
hawkdriver on May 6, 2012 at 9:26 AM
Obama ate a dog.
Romney put a dog on top of his car.
Johnson’s dog created more shovel ready jobs than Obama.
This is a great selection of candidates. Woof!
Fallon on May 6, 2012 at 9:27 AM
Teh SCOAMF, Mittens, and Little Johnson might be Joe Besser and Curly Joe, but Larry, Moe, Curly and Shemp are far better.
Steve Eggleston on May 6, 2012 at 9:27 AM
Yeah… that’s the ticket. Skewer the GOP – that’s what is most needed now.
Move to Cuba, Honda. You’re an embarrassment.

Yeah, you may laugh but I was just thinking “How can I paint Johnson with high cheekbones and the fact that he may have lived in SE Asia, say Korea or Viet Nam or someplace where puppy is on the menu…?”

So, yup, I’m not above slander against Johnson to preserve those percentage points for Romney – Ø has to GO!

ddrintn on May 6, 2012 at 9:33 AM
No, you see, the dilemma is that if Romney wins, you can kiss reform and any sort of needed transformational change good-bye for at least a generation, maybe longer. Won’t happen. The status quo will reign supreme.

Oh when you add in SHEMP, hell yeah but that’s not the first lineup you showed! I think I’ll have to shift my business to Abbott, Costello, Laurel & Hardy.
ExpressoBold on May 6, 2012 at 9:36 AM
I can’t disagree. But the damage in degrees is greater if President Obama is reelected. And the Conservative standing in the GOP is no better if Romney loses. republicans and the media will blame us for Romney blowing the election. Pick your meme. In the end, the military needs a better CinC. In the end, we need a SCOTUS nominee that doesn’t come from a lame duck Socialist. In the end, we’re far worse off having President Obama.
It’s not just picking your battles, it’s the timing of them.
hawkdriver on May 6, 2012 at 9:41 AM
The drive-by media will be all-Gary Johnson, all the time for the next 6 months.
Spliff Menendez on May 6, 2012 at 9:45 AM
Romney loses, there will be a bloodletting in the GOP. The base would in all likelihood take over, or else the GOP truly would go the way of the Whigs…and the GOP would have more of a fighting chance in 2016. Romney wins, the squishes have the ultimate trump card on conservatives for as long as you can imagine: who can argue with success? However, the GOP would get demolished in the 2014 midterms, and Romney would get demolished in 2016, with a primary challenge from anyone only adding to Democrat strength. As I said, I’d love to see Obama gone as well. But it’s a dilemma.

When the GOP offers me some free money, and the Democrats offer me more free money. Tell me why I should vote for the GOP?
Saving the country from the fiscal time bomb went bye-bye a long ago. So I might as well go with who’s going to give me the most in the short-term.
Spliff Menendez on May 6, 2012 at 9:49 AM
Hmm. I predict the Romney campaign will “coincidentally” name some openly gay person to a prominent position in the coming weeks to take the sting off the growing criticism.
inthemiddle on May 6, 2012 at 9:51 AM
If that happens then it will be all the evidence anyone needs to know that Team R is a bunch of nincompoops.

Hang in there Gary!
The 17th state to legalize medical marijuana and to also decriminalize possession of small amounts just came onboard.
Connecticut, growing green jobs the old fashioned way.

Oh, wonderful. Yet another candidate I can’t vote for.
Aitch748 on May 6, 2012 at 10:06 AM
Who’s on first?
Steve Eggleston on May 6, 2012 at 10:08 AM
Washington state is about to vote in favor of legalizing marijuana. Once one state falls it will be *impossible* to keep it out of the other states. Legal weed over the state line? What are they going to do, set up check points on every interstate highway going in and out of Washington state? The caravans of Americans driving in and out of Washington to get marijuana is going to epic.

Bryan Fischer, a top official at the social conservative American Family Association. Fischer is perhaps best known for a series of inflammatory statements about gays, Muslims, Mormons, and others.
The others who piled on were Gary Bauer, Pastor Jeffres, and several other evangelical Christians organizations… At least those are who I recall reading about the other day when this all started.

Pragmatic on May 6, 2012 at 10:17 AM
Whats the actual difference between a libertarian and a liberal on domestic and foreign affairs?
Sometimes it seems like they may express them slightly different, with libertarians liking to make themselves out to be the “clearheaded thinkers” in the race…..but then advocate idiotic(imo) policies like legalizing *hores and drugs, and ply word games like conflating foriegn policy isolationism for “non- intervention”.
What make then any different than the leftwingers when it comes to these crucial issues?
Mimzey on May 6, 2012 at 10:17 AM
You’ve got the lineup wrong.
Who’s on first
What’s on second
I. Dont Know’s on third
Why’s in left
Because is in center
Tomorrow’s pitching
I. Dontgive Adarn’s at short
Today’s catching
I haven’t a clue the name of the right fielder.
