Republican insiders pretty excited about Rob Portman for VP
“He’s from Ohio, and we need to win Ohio, it’s that simple,” said one state chair…
“He was born to be the guy standing next to the guy,” said another member. “He’s the type of guy who ran for vice president of his high school student council.”

Are these quotes for real?!?
So he’s almost a leader or is it he’s almost a winner?
Why would anyone even suspect that Repbulican ‘insiders’ want to win….. because they don’t.

Ahem
From questions 8 and 11 regarding the state of Ohio…
Obama: 45%
Romney: 39%
Obama-Biden: 46%
Romney: 40%
So including Portman makes a whopping net difference of…. ZERO!

Uhm, BuzzFeed again, people. BuzzFeed. You know, the “Highlights Magazine” of politics?

Who?

G R O A N………..When will these establishment people ever learn? This election is more than securing one battleground state. And it’s not enough to have strong conservatives on the ticket. We need charismatic people who can who can sell conservatism to the masses. Teachers. Mitt can’t sell it because he obviously doesn’t (YET) grasp it. Why go with an unknown when you have people like Allen West and Bobby Jindal?
Tomolena1 on April 22, 2012 at 9:45 AM
Republican “Insiders”? Reason enough to run as fast as possible the other way. Repub. “Insiders” gave us Bob Dole and John McCain.

Who the heck is Portman? If the repubs don’t run a known entity for VEEP, it’s obama for another 4 years then the country is over. What is with these political hacks? I can’t believe that people this dumb, who never learn, have this much influence in our politics. These people are just as dumb in their way as the OWS in theirs.

Who among us would not have puked if you’d told us two years ago that our ticket would be Romney/Portman.
That article reads like a press release.
Rubio=bad because he has no executive or national campaign experience.
Portman=good because he has no executive or national campaign experience -But hung around the McCain campaign a whole lot!
The media wants this laughably mockable twosome so bad they can taste it, and will do anything to keep Rubio off the ticket.
AmeriCuda on April 22, 2012 at 9:55 AM
I’m pretty certain Romney is going to play it like this:
Go to work on Obama all summer long on his record and see how the polls move. If you build up a good lead, a safe pick is all you need. If you need a home run, you go with someone else. There is no single VP pick that will definitely deliver their home state.
The Count on April 22, 2012 at 9:57 AM
Stupid peasant. Don’t you know GOP Insiders ™ are way smarter than you are? /
Polls have shown that Rubio would be a net minus in FL, if I’m not mistaken.
ddrintn on April 22, 2012 at 9:59 AM
Man we are in bad shape in Ohio. Not going to be much of an election night if those numbers don’t turn around. Unbelievable how Obama’s favorables are still that high.
WisCon on April 22, 2012 at 10:03 AM
And…according to RCP’s front page, Romney leads Obama by 2 points in NH and 3 points in MO. Wow.
ddrintn on April 22, 2012 at 10:04 AM
I am from Ohio and I barely know who he is. I don’t think he would make much of a difference. No game changer there.
CW on April 22, 2012 at 10:04 AM
People grade on a curve with this guy.
CW on April 22, 2012 at 10:05 AM
So as long as the GOP sucks up to Ohio and puts their native son on the ballot, winning that state will be enough to make up for all the voters in other states who don’t have a clue who Portman is?
katiejane on April 22, 2012 at 10:09 AM
Yeah, sacrifice it all for Ohio. Loose the election, win Ohio.
Hey, if you had a good candidate to begin with and a strong conservative message, you wouldn’t have to worry about Ohio.
We are being ruined by these morons.
JellyToast on April 22, 2012 at 10:10 AM
Ace had a poll the other day where Romney was tied with Obama in PA. These polls are going to move a lot this summer.
The Count on April 22, 2012 at 10:12 AM
I would not put much too much stock in any poll yet and anyone who thinks either of these guys can or cannot win in today’s political climate are just plain wrong.
CW on April 22, 2012 at 10:17 AM
C’mon, it is BF, vile offspring of the even more vile Ben Smith.
Everything linked to that cesspool ought to have a warning label.
CAUTION: CONTAINS BULLSHIT.

novaculus on April 22, 2012 at 10:28 AM
I guess if they’re going for someone more boring than Romney, they may have their guy.
besser tot als rot on April 22, 2012 at 10:32 AM
I love Rob. I’ve voted for Rob. But Rob has never had a real challenge. Even in his Senate run, the Tea Party here in Ohio rolled over and let him run away with an easy win. It’ll be interesting to see Portman actually face a challenge, because he hasn’t had to face one in many many years.
NoStoppingUs on April 22, 2012 at 10:35 AM
Anyway, Portman is probably one guy that you can put in the top 5 as being responsible for Romney being the nominee with his work getting Romney barely over the top in Ohio. I think he should be forced to tie his political fortunes to Romney and retire from politics in eternal shame if Romney ends up governing the nation like he did in Massachusetts.

Buzzfeed is Ed’s fetish, like AP’s Meghan McCain one. Something done to deliberately annoy us.
wildcat72 on April 22, 2012 at 11:39 AM
This would be such a wasted opportunity. People love Paul Ryan, his budgets will be part of the debate no matter what and he needs experience in the executive if he is to be potus one day.
And what speaks for Portman? A regional bonus that may or may not materialze? Can you see “Portman 2020″ from your house?
Valkyriepundit on April 22, 2012 at 11:44 AM
What is this the 10th “Portman is going to be the VP” or “RNC insiders love Portman” idiotic link in the past month?
No Buzzfeed reporter has the inside track to what “RNC insiders” think. This story is garbage.
AYNBLAND on April 22, 2012 at 11:49 AM
Rob Portman. I think I’m going to puke.
bgibbs1000 on April 22, 2012 at 12:24 PM
Republican insiders pretty excited about Rob Portman for VP
because Romney excites no one.
Shades of McLame!
DannoJyd on April 22, 2012 at 12:53 PM
We already have one milquetoast guy on the ticket, Romeny. Rubio * Christie aer right about jumping to higher office after only 2 or so years in office. Romney could pick Hatch or Lugar (both of whom might loose their senate seat) if he wanted to lock down a swing state – Virginia (both have lived there longer than in their “home” state)
My choice is Sen. Coburn, an MD for AR. His tome “Back in the Black” is a prescription for balancing the budget, much better written and understandable than Paul Ryan’s budget. He would also show Romney’s commitment to get rid of ObamaCare and replace is with something that would reduce costs and enhance services.
