Montana governor: Remember, Mitt Romney’s family came from a polygamy commune in Mexico
While discussing swing states, [Montana Gov. Brian] Schweitzer said Romney would have a “tall order to position Hispanics to vote for him,” and I replied that was mildly ironic since Mitt’s father was born in Mexico, giving the clan a nominal claim to being Hispanic. Schweitzer replied that it is “kinda ironic given that his family came from a polygamy commune in Mexico, but then he’d have to talk about his family coming from a polygamy commune in Mexico, given the gender discrepancy.” Women, he said, are “not great fans of polygamy, 86 percent were not great fans of polygamy. I am not alleging by any stretch that Romney is a polygamist and approves of [the] polygamy lifestyle, but his father was born into [a] polygamy commune in Mexico.”
Romney’s father, George—who served as governor of Michigan and was a member of the Nixon cabinet and also a presidential candidate—was born in Mexico in 1907 to a family of American Mormons who fled to Mexico when the United States government cracked down on the practice of polygamy. George Romney’s parents were in a monogamous marriage, but Mexico was the last bastion for the practice of plural marriage in the Church of Latter Day Saints. (The church has since expressly prohibited the practice.)
While the Obama campaign has ruled Romney’s faith off-limits, it was the subject of some attacks from evangelicals during the GOP primary.

George Schweitzer – (Deeeeee). The
newold media sure gets tiresome.Feedie on April 20, 2012 at 2:07 AM
PuritanD71. Does that stand for dumb. What in the world do you think a church who has a membership of 14-15 million have a chance to take over the government. You are a dolt. Get your info from a Mormon site instead of an anti.
It’s so funny, the dems tried the woman thing, then the dog, and now polygamy. Gads, I guess this will be so fun to dig into 0b0z0′s father’s past. I just can’t wait!

Jay Carney, are you up? Type up your resignation letter. Gaffes from Barry,Biden,Axelrod and Schweitzer are all just making your job tough, tougher & crunchy.

Heh, you know Democrats are incapable of counting when it goes against them.
Feedie on April 20, 2012 at 2:47 AM
he’s right but it’s not the issue..the issue is that Romney is a bad choice for the GOP because he belongs with the same political party as the governor of Montana…Democrat. Romney has no core conservative beliefs.

Aww, what’s the matter? I thought everything was cool now. We can have gay marriage but not polygamy? What happened to “consenting adults” and “none of our business”? Make up your minds, libs.

And yet Romney has been married to one woman for 42 years. Poor Dems, Romney’s closet is so empty of skeletons they have to go the the neighbors of his father’s childhood??

And Barry’s father was a wife-beating, drunken bigamist from Kenya who sired a dozen kids by a bunch of different women (and then abandoned them), and was also a Commie who wrote that the government had the right to take 100% of peoples’ income.
Does Obama really want to go there?

With candidates’ spouses and children being off-limits (that is, until Piper Palin’s old enough to get her reproductive system investigated by the hard-nosed journalists in the mainstream press), Obama flacks are now reduced to taking cheap shots at Mitt Romney’s grandparents.
Sad.

Nuff said.

Exactly right. This kind of attack only highlights Romney’s entirely conventional – indeed, admirable – private life and moral habits.
But leave it to the dog-eating ObaMao vanguard to use a “dog whistle” in the same fasion that they accuse Conservatives of doing.

the entire future of the country comes down to a battle between the descendants of polygamists! fun times, fun times.

for many of us, the weirdness of both obama and romney cancels both of them out (wish there was more focus on jobs and the economy and repealing obamacare):
religion
dogs
polygamy
these kinds of discussions damage them both

Montana has a large liberal population in the bigger city centers.
I know many ranchers in E. MT. None of those people like Democrats.
Schweitzer’s a putz. His handling of the Yellowstone bison is one big reason why a lot of rancher’s hate the guy.

It’s just not happening this cycle. Don’t be part of the problem.

I am a Christian . . . and I am an evangelical. I have no problem with Romney. I am a member of a good sized evangelical church. There is not ONE person who has a problem with Romney as a Mormon within my fellowship.
I believe that Obama is REALLY, REALLY hoping that evangelicals will turn on Romney because of his Mormonism. WRONG. Only people who don’t think clearly would have a problem with Romney’s Mormonism.
Good grief . . . we had a Catholic President, and there are as many differences between Catholicism and evangelicals as there is between Mormonism and evangelicals.
We don’t know what Obama really believes. He hasn’t convinced me that he is a Christian. He displays no “fruit of the Spirit” to me.

Long time ago, Jews practiced polygamy too. See, Solomon & King David. Nothing to do with Mittens, today.

Let try that with a different focus:
“Hispanic. Schweitzer replied that it is “kinda ironic given that his slave holding family came from a

Let’s try that with a different focus again:

Schweitzer is pro-gun, but otherwise is a typical Democrat liberal buffoon. The problem in Montana is twofold; in state politics a lot of folks still think they’re still voting for the Democrat Party of 50 years ago, and the Republicans have proven inept at putting up good candidates.
On the first run against Schweitzer we had some joker whose big campaign theme was, that he had fought a grizzly bear and won. Running against Tester we had this crackpot that had run under one party label or another in every election since the invention of the automobile. He won the primary on name recognition, because no actual Republican could seemingly raise enough money to become known statewide.
And yes, I voted for the wrestler and the crackpot because it’s against my religion to vote for any Democrat for any reason.

How does it feel to wake up every morning just to spend the day defending Mitt Romney?

Oh, and if we actually READ the article we discover that, “George Romney’s parents were in a monogamous marriage…” We can’t say that about Obama’s father or grandfather, can we? Doh!

So, the other 14% must be all those women around the world that willingly enter plygamous relationships? Because I don’t see a lot of multi-male/single-female polygamous set-ups around the world.

A correction to the above, Tester ran against incumbent, Burns, whose campaign was mostly memorable because he didn’t get any money for ads from the RNC until, I think, the last week of the campaign. Tester’s ads were 24/7 for a couple of months. The crackpot was put up against Baucus. I had my ineptitudes mixed up —there have been so many of them.
Burns was a somewhat shady pork=barrel politician, but he was better than a lick-boot like Tester, who is oh-so-pro-gun that he votes for two anti-gun Supreme Court nominees.

The dems really are desperate. They are throwing anything they can find against the wall, but all they succeed in doing is looking foolish and desperate.
Some are realizing their messiah is a complete loser and are abandoning ship. They will find the ship has too few lifeboats.
dogsoldier on April 20, 2012 at 9:38 AM
Defending Romney against this kind of garbage doesn’t bother me in the least. Romney has led an exemplary personal life, and the Obama camp’s attempt to smear him by association with his more unconventional ancestors is outrageously unfair and incredibly hypocritical, especially given Obama’s own sleazy parents and their multiple marriages (in daddy’s case, bigamous marriages) and anti-American attitudes.
So yes, we’ll defend Romney against these smears, and against the new smears that will surely come in the future, as the Obama campaign grows more and more desperate.
