Obama hoping for an upset victory in … Arizona?
This is in no small part because of the increase in Latino populations and a series of legislative efforts aimed at immigration — with the Republican governor and state Legislature of Arizona leading the way — that polls suggest have created a backlash among many Latino voters.
“It is going to be a swing state,” said Jim Messina, the president’s campaign manager. “The question is, whether we can get enough people registered to put it in play this year.”
“If you just close your eyes and look at the census numbers, look at the number of unregistered voters, look at how this is the only state in the country that didn’t have a primary or a contested general in 2008, so there was no organizing,” Mr. Messina said as he ticked off the factors that work in their favor. “And look next door. Look at New Mexico, look at Colorado, look at California. All that stuff is going to come to Arizona. The question is, can we get it there in time? How expensive is it do it?”…
A critical obstacle for Mr. Obama is the economy, which continues to struggle here, and which Republicans argue will hurt him with all groups of voters. “The fact that Arizona is suffering through with a tough economy, that’s not boding well with independent voters,” Mr. Wikfors said.

Arizona? You mean, as in the state 0bama has been suing for passing a law a significant amount of Hispanic Arizonans voted for (hey, nobody likes criminals)? That Arizona?
Yeah, good luck with that….

Yes, and he’ll win Texas too///
JPeterman on April 16, 2012 at 7:48 PM
Haha…what’s funny is that maybe Bill Clinton could pull off a political ploy like this. But when Obama throws it out there, everyone has the same reaction: hysterical laughter.

There are currently estimated to be about 200,000 fewer illegal aliens (AKA illegal Democrat voters) in Arizona today than there were in 2008.

First it was Georgia. Then Texas. Now Arizona. What next–Idaho?

The only way anyone reports Obama wins in November is if Reuters makes up the news for him the way they did for the Hezbos in their war with Israel.

I was thinking about Romney losing Arizona. Better be a strong VP pick for him to hold that one.
The Nerve on April 16, 2012 at 7:58 PM
I hear a CNN poll shows Obama beating Romney by double digits in Utah, so Arizona is definitely possible!
GOPRanknFile on April 16, 2012 at 7:59 PM
Yeah. SC is definitely in play also. He better worry about holding onto true blue states.

So I guess they figure Obama reporting Arizona to the UN for human rights violations endeared him to a majority of Arizona voters. Lib logic strikes again.

Considering he can’t run on his record and hopes to flip so many states. Whats the over/under on how many debates the one will agree to? I’m guessing 4 tops.

They’ve been pushing this meme on the media since last year, and to bolster Democratic support in Arizona, over the last three years, Obama has…
1. Sued our state over SB1070
2. Sent hundreds of guns to Mexico’s drug cartels
3. Put up signs telling Americans to keep out of America, rather than secure the border
4. Used Gabby Giffords’ shooting as a podium to blast away at his foes in the name of promoting politcal bipartisanship
And that’s leaving out Raul Girjalva, the head of Obama’s ol’ stompin’ grounds, the Progressive Caucus, calling for a boycott of his own state.
This in a state that’s voted for the GOP every election (except one) since 1948.

Of course he will win the Grand Canyon state, after all, the Tea Party caused the Gifford’s attempted assassination..

CA,NV and CO were once red states too. AZ will be deep blue within a generation as well. Obama may or may not win AZ this year. But 2020 will likey be the last time AZ will even be competitive for the GOP. The GOP is a dead party walking in the SW and yes in TX too over the long term.

Lot’s of Seniors and Snowbirds in Arizona. Snowbirds, might be one of the reasons there is a large demographic that’s unregistered to vote in Arizona, because they winter in Arizona, and go back up north in the spring – they are registered to vote in their main state of residency.
The democrats think that illegal aliens are the only transients moving in and out of Arizona that’s amusing plenty of Americans do the same.
Dr Evil on April 16, 2012 at 8:48 PM
let me add to your list Ex
5. Currently suing the most poplular pol in AZ, Joe Arpaio to stop him from enforcing the law
6. Attempted to humilite the 2nd most popular pol in the state, Jan Brewer to no avail.
7. Such a weak state Dem committee that Jeff Flake will run unopposed for the US Senate
8. Opposing voter id laws wherever they can but sorry Eric, we already require ID to vote here.
DrW on April 16, 2012 at 8:49 PM
This is 2003 count for snowbirds
State’s ‘snowbird’ count estimated at 300,000 or more
Google: Arizona snowbird population
There are also Military stationed in Arizona.

Jan Brewer had no problem winning reelection.
55%.
NeoKong on April 16, 2012 at 8:57 PM
Snowbirds only get to vote once, and in the state they designate as their main residency they have registered to vote in.
I think the democrats may not understand why Arizona may have as many unregistered voters – they are already registered to vote in their home state?
