If ObamaCare falls, liberals might push for greater government control of health care
SINGLE PAYER: If Democrats make little progress on alternatives, some purists might decide it’s best to just renew the case for a single-payer system in which all Americans receive health care paid for by the government.
Sidney M. Wolfe, the director of the Health Research Group at Public Citizen, an advocacy group, has been pushing for government-run health care for decades.
In an interview Tuesday, Mr. Wolfe said a ruling against the current law could help spark a renewed drive for a system that essentially expanded Medicare into a program for everyone, not just the elderly.
“If this is what happens, it may offer more incentive to say let’s decide once and for all that health care is a right,” Mr. Wolfe said. “It will certainly present an opportunity to a number of people.”

They would need the majorities in the House and the Senate to pass their next health care agenda. Let’s see after they rammed through Obamacare, the republicans had the biggest seat change in 70 years in the last Mid Terms. So if they run on ramming through more government control of health care, how many more seats could they expect to lose in the next election in abot 8 months? I mean, it’s not like they didn’t tip the entire country off to their agenda, and people are wise what they are trying to do.

There’s a sucker born every minute and they’ll import more too. Eventually they’ll get their hands on the whip again.

Because nationalizing the healthcare industry, forcing physicians to work for the feds and forbidding people to pay for services would be even more constitutional than Obamacare. Obviously, the Commerce Clause demands that the feds seize this kind of power. Certainly it would be a deeply popular measure and tons of Dems would get elected in November by running on it. That nationalization stuff works really well in Venezuela, really. I say GO FOR IT!

And if ObamaCare doesn’t fall, liberals will also push for greater government control of health care.

“It’s never enough” because the Progressive ideology -does not work- over time. It often exacerbates the problems (real or imaginary) Progs seek to “solve.” Their only solution: more government, more centralized control, more regulation, less individual liberty.

Nice attempt at spin there, NYTrash, but the real news is why would a liberal bother to get out of their bedroom slippers to vote for a bunch of has-beens that already blew their best and last hope to nationalize health care?

The only way to reduce health care cost is to stop treating the uninsured who can’t pay up front. It sounds cold, but it’s their choice.
As the cost decreases more people will be able to afford health care and everybody will win except for free loaders who are driving up the cost in the first place.

Liberals are finding themselves in the same boat that the Whigs did over 150 years ago. They have an ideology, but most of the country doesn’t believe in it. This is why the Dems only gain votes when they are opposing conservatism instead of from governing. They stand for “solutions” to problems that Americans quite simply do not want.
Bill Clinton knew this, which is why most liberals hate him.

That, plus get rid of all the bogus mandatory covered items, reform malpractice to get rid of unneeded tests, and allow insurance to be sold nationwide.

yeah … I have seen it too …. have the Iwon state that he tried to work with the evil GOP … and now if the ppl will give him 4 more years and the House back …
he will give them single payer ….
conservative tarheel on March 28, 2012 at 3:58 PM
They will have to go to single payer if the mandate fails.
But they didn’t have the votes for single payer in 09. Sure as heck don’t have them now or in the near future.

It doesn’t matter. They think health care is a human right and should be provided free of charge, regardless of the economic consequences it brings. That’s why they always try to argue fallaciously about emergency room costs and everybody picking up the bill….like that’s somehow different from what single-payer accomplishes.
True believers are indefatigable. They will fight until their ideology exists no more.

There are many things the federal government does that require Amendments to actually execute, this would be another one.
This is what restrained government is about. The courts are not the answer and have no power. There is a way to address every politcal question…Article V
