Media Matters launching radio campaign against Rush Limbaugh now
The ads use Limbaugh’s own words about student Sandra Fluke, who testified at a congressional hearing that contraception should be paid for in health plans. Limbaugh, on his radio programs, suggested Fluke wanted to be paid to have sex, which made her a “slut” and a “prostitute.” In return for the money, he said Fluke should post videos of herself having sex. Under sharp criticism, Limbaugh later apologized.
In one of the anti-Limbaugh ads, listeners are urged to call the local station that carries Limbaugh to say “we don’t talk to women like that” in our city.
Ad time was purchased in Boston; Chicago; Detroit; Seattle; Milwaukee; St. Louis; Macon, Ga.; and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The cities were selected to support active local campaigns against Limbaugh or because of perceptions Limbaugh may be vulnerable in that market, said Angelo Carusone of Media Matters.

Yaawwnnn this never works. Review history.

Gotta love liberals. Silence Rush first, and then take the new law from LA City Council banning ‘racist and sexual’ attack talk. Can’t wait to hear from Bill Maher on this.
savvydude on March 22, 2012 at 1:05 PM
Won’t work. I’ll still listen.
rbj on March 22, 2012 at 1:05 PM
They’re going to have a hard time doing that now that one of their biggest donors has pulled out.
Defenestratus on March 22, 2012 at 1:05 PM
Well, if MMA wants to actually have people listen to their ads, they should probably advertise on The Rush Limbaugh Program .
If there are actually slots available…
JohnGalt23 on March 22, 2012 at 1:07 PM
free advertising for Rush…

Good luck with that, Soros. And they say it’s those right-wingers who want censorship!

Me thinks Media Matters does not understand Rush’s audience.
jake-the-goose on March 22, 2012 at 1:07 PM
This will not work, they have tried this for years against Rush and Rush always comes out the better for their efforts.

I guess this group didn’t read Bill Maher’s op-ed about reining in the faux outrage.
katiejane on March 22, 2012 at 1:37 PM
Seriously, if there was any great national public desire to get Limbaugh off the air, would they have to be so targeted in their terrorism-by-harassment campaign as to focus on a handful of lib markets?
fitzfong on March 22, 2012 at 1:38 PM
It’s like throwing rocks at a tank.
NeoKong on March 22, 2012 at 1:50 PM
This is stupid. All that will happen is that any calls made to the station will be shuttled off to a voice mail no one will ever listen to.
It won’t affect his ratings, so it won’t affect his show.
Their whole organization is just idiotic.
PetecminMd on March 22, 2012 at 1:52 PM
What a hilarious waste of liberals’ time and money. They should expand their ad blitz to every liberal sh!thole city in Amerika like the ones already on their list. I bet the OWS crowd would donate to that big time.
Harbingeing on March 22, 2012 at 2:02 PM
I hope they bought ad time on WLS 890AM in the Chicago market (Limbaugh’s station). This should be good for a laugh.
JimLennon on March 22, 2012 at 2:11 PM
I hadn’t realized the head of Progressive auto insurance was that… Progressive…
If say its time to go in the offensive. We should actively try toget advertisers to support Rush’s show and conservative radio in general while simultaneously starting boycott campaigns on people who continue to fund attacks like these on our constitutional rights.
Skywise on March 22, 2012 at 2:22 PM
backfire predictions? I’ll give it 98%.
ted c on March 22, 2012 at 2:22 PM
I guess the last two are control cities.
Spend away, lefties. Rush is a private citizen and you’re wasting your time, energy and money on something that won’t work.
mankai on March 22, 2012 at 2:24 PM
It’s scary how the Left rejects speech. Very un-American.
They (supposedly) value diversity in everything, except the one place it’s most important: diversity in thought.
visions on March 22, 2012 at 2:29 PM
Leftists again demonstrating they do not understand economics. Again.
Libs:
You see there’s this thing called business.
Businesses exist to make money.
To make money businesses need to reach out to people to persuade them to buy their products and services.
So they implement a marketing strategy which typically features advertising, usually multi-channel (tv, print, internet, radio, social, blimps, etc.)
In chimp terms, the price of a advertisement is mainly based on reach (audience) and demographic (numbers).
The people who make money on the front end are ad buyers, radio hosts, the host broadcasting company, and the syndicated broadcasting companies.
The people who make money on the back end (hopefully) are the companies
What’re you saying Piggy?
I’m saying you want it one way. But it’s the other way. If you want to take down Limbaugh you need to deprive him of listeners.
CorporatePiggy on March 22, 2012 at 2:31 PM
When conservatives don’t like what they are hearing, they change the station. Liberals try to shut it down. So much for enlightened tolerance.
stvnscott on March 22, 2012 at 2:32 PM
I bolded Boston because Brock and his Crew of Loons obviously didn’t do their research. Rush’s flagship station in Boston is WXKS-AM, which is a 50,000 watt “blowtorch”.
What MM apparently doesn’t realize is that despite that “powerful signal”, WXKS’s daytime signal pattern goes straight out to sea-as opposed to the former Boston AM station that carried Rush (WRKO-AM), which has a huge signal beamed north-northwest and south-southeast. WRKO pumps way into northern and southern New England, while Rush’s current station can’t even be heard here in NH.
In addition, WXKS-AM is one of the lowest-rated stations in the Boston market. The most recent (February) ARBITRON book gives them something like 90,000 average listeners per day. On the other hand, WRKO-AM has 2 and a half times that many listeners.
Yep, they are worried.

Here are a few links displaying the fail of their efforts:

In other words, epic fail.
