Bill Maher: Jesus was a “Palestinian”
BILL MAHER: You are allowed to have your opinion. You’re allowed to have your opinion that a Palestinian 2000 years ago walked on water and did magic tricks and he was really still his own father and all that stuff. That’s fine. You can have whatever opinion you want, and the fact that a billion other people believe it gives you a lot of strength and credence. But I also have the opinion that that’s ridiculous, that it’s anachronistic, this is the 21st century.

I refuse to post on any thread concerning Bill Maher.

Ed… please don’t give this guy too much air time. He’s a walking poster boy for the people we don’t want to be like when the end comes. He’s toast.
HomeoftheBrave on February 28, 2012 at 4:25 PM

BILL MAHER — Please shut up !
Axion on February 28, 2012 at 4:26 PM
The Phakeistinians didn’t exist even then.
Ward Cleaver on February 28, 2012 at 4:27 PM
Historical ignorance? How Democrat of him.
Warner Todd Huston on February 28, 2012 at 4:27 PM
jesus never existed
nathor on February 28, 2012 at 4:27 PM
He is also the poster boy for what hate filled anti-theism turns a person into. I can’t imagine anyone wants to be close to him once they get to know him.
NotCoach on February 28, 2012 at 4:28 PM
But if you disagree with me and the left you’ll be ridiculed and treated like crap.
Flange on February 28, 2012 at 4:29 PM
What. An. Idiot.
nathor – prove it.
Logus on February 28, 2012 at 4:29 PM
So the Palestinians killed him?
Shouldn’t they pay for that, retroactively?
Should the palis be subjected to inquisition, torture and pogroms and everything else the Jews have been subjected to for that “crime”?
Masih ad-Dajjal on February 28, 2012 at 4:29 PM
I bet the hookers he orders up charge him double after it`s all over and head for the nearest convent.
ThePrez on February 28, 2012 at 4:30 PM
The only ancient people I’ve ever seen the word Palestinian linked to were the Philistines, arch enemies of the Jews.
INC on February 28, 2012 at 4:31 PM
nathor, Bill Maher is ignorant of history vis-a-vis the Palestinians.
We know that both of you do reject Christ. You however make a statement as fact.
So, prove it.
Logus on February 28, 2012 at 4:31 PM
He was a Pally-who? Palestinians weren’t invented until long after Christ.
HotAirian on February 28, 2012 at 4:32 PM
Debunked.
BigGator5 on February 28, 2012 at 4:33 PM
Hey, Maher, you would be wise to hedge your bet.
Why even Dawkins seems to be flirting with Occam’s Razor

jesus was a myth, made up by messianic jews after the fall of temple in 70 CE. to justify the failure of old profecies, they claimed jesus already arrived, but the jews at the time(30 ce) failed to recognize him. the tale got reinforced with the second fall of the temple at 130 CE…
the the gospels are made up stories to satisfy the need of more details of this savior that jews and historians around the time of jesus ministry seems to miss completely.
gnostic gospels are in many ways alternate invented stories of jesus that the ortodox church had the power to persecute as heresy later on.
nathor on February 28, 2012 at 4:36 PM
Please do not engage the trolls, and Ed(AP or TK) if I might suggest no more of this idiot Maher and that goes double for Colbert.
D-fusit on February 28, 2012 at 4:36 PM
Nathor, we can play this game.
Hannibal never existed.
In other words, you and Maher can continue to rehash tired old arguments.
It boils down to the fact that you reject Christ.
That’s fine.
We are all responsible for our choices and the consequences of them.
Have a nice day.
Logus on February 28, 2012 at 4:37 PM
Bill Maher is a philistine.
Left Coast Right Mind on February 28, 2012 at 4:38 PM
Isn’t it interesting that atheists like Maher (Hitchens too; I’m less clear about Dawkins) never complain about the religious underpinings of the welfare state?
For example, Bismarck is considered the creator of the modern welfare state. He was a very pious Protestant (hated the Catholic Church but that’s another story) who used Christian teachings to support those programs. He arguments came right out of Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount.
And nearly all of the American welfare state’s origins come out of the Christian social gospel. “I am my brother’s keeper” type of view.
But why do we never – and I mean never – hear complaints from these atheists about the theological basis for these social programs?
Don’t get me wrong: I support many of these programs especially the ones for the sick and poor. But it’s undeniable that the moral basis for these programs comes right out of the Christian social gospel.
And our atheist friends are silent.

LOL…you’re funny…I’m still laughing at you…LOL
fossten on February 28, 2012 at 4:42 PM
The same is true in reverse. Admit it, we all vilify those we disagree with.
Do religious folks not scoff and laugh at those who don’t believe in their god or gods? Do you not call believers in other faiths crazy and stupid? Do they not quote such gems as Psalms 14:1-3
The implication is always that those who don’t believe in what YOU believe in are idiots and doomed to eternal torture in whatever hell you can imagine for them.
Quit yer whining and come up with some good proof for what you believe in, or get out of the kitchen.
There is a reason that followers of religion are called “believers” and not “knowers”.
SauerKraut537 on February 28, 2012 at 4:42 PM
rejecting jesus is as easy as rejecting the void. he did not exist. he is but a myth built up centuries after his supposed life, making a syncretism of many religions present at roman times.
nathor on February 28, 2012 at 4:42 PM
If you’re right than my life will have still been a good one and nothing will happen when we die. If those of us who accept Christ are right, then your life will still have been a miserable stink hole and then you have hell to look forward too. Good luck.
jawkneemusic on February 28, 2012 at 4:42 PM
Maher lights his hair on fire every night.

You present an opinion and call it fact. As Logus said you are entitled to your own faith. So have a nice day.

I know that the proper response to this is “Bill is dumb” but all I keep thinking is, No. He was and is, the Lion of Judah.
Kristamatic on February 28, 2012 at 4:44 PM
Jesus was a real person. There are many Roman documents which have him in it. His name appears on Roman documents for execution by crucifixion signed by Pontius Pilate. There are also Roman documents indicating that he rose from the dead and appeared to those who were his enemies.
These documents exist. Whether or not you wish to believe Jesus was the Son of God, The messiah, a savior, etc. is up to you. However to say he wasn’t real is indicative of you being ill informed or a bigot, perhaps both.

Seriously Nathor, read Josephus. He was a non- Christian contemporary of Jesus. A historian. It is very interesting reading.
Kristamatic on February 28, 2012 at 4:47 PM
nathor is more of a moron than Maher is. Something I would have considered difficult given how high ‘ole Bill set that bar. Well done nathor, you’ve officially made it atop my dumb@ss of the year chart. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE try and stay there till the end of the year. I’m rooting for you!
StompUDead on February 28, 2012 at 4:48 PM
What are the “consequences” of rejecting this Christ dude of yours?
By the way, I am concerned that you have rejected Allah.
It’s fine, but we are all responsible for our choices and their consequences.
Good day sir!

“Profecies”? What grade are you in?
Akzed on February 28, 2012 at 4:49 PM
laught at this, Iraneus, one of the first bishops and still considered a saint, though that jesus lived quite longer:
Irenaeus tells us that Jesus’s public ministry continued at least 10 years, and that JC was seen alive in Asia, with his disciple John and others, up to the time of the Emperor Trajan.
these guys in the first century could not even be sure if jesus died 30 CE or around 100 CE.

You might want to discuss your position with this man. He may just have more up to date information.
Josephus mentions Jesus in Antiquities, Book 18, chapter 3, paragraph 3

Ron Paul never existed. Cute thread hijacking, by the way.

And here come’s the rest of the non-believers, great. Close it up everyone there is no need to continue. They will never believe but I respect my fellow believers trying, I can only pray for their souls.
D-fusit on February 28, 2012 at 4:55 PM
that the only single non Christian historical source of jesus. however, that only passage in his huge work “antiquities of the jews” that supposedly mentions jesus(which is a very very common name at the time)was corrupted by later Christian scribes.
you can read about the controversy here:

Jesus loves and believes in you even if you don’t believe in Him.
I would never ridicule someone who doesn’t believe as I do. I am very lucky to have parents that raised me in a strong belief system and current events have just reinforced this.
How sad it must be for those with no faith to see world events unfolding, thinking there is nothing else after this. I don’t want to sound trite, but I pray for you.
