Poll: Just 15% of Libyans want democratic government next year
More than 40% backed strong leadership from one person or a group.
However, almost a third of those polled said they would like a democratic government in five years’ time.
Despite the majority saying they wanted to see a firm hand in control, 69% also said they believed ordinary citizens should have a say in how Libya develops.
And some 16% of people said they were prepared to resort to violence for political ends.

I believe this. Libya’s a disunited mess of competing tribes that largely don’t like each other and which has no history of democratic governance and no sense of national identity.

The worst thing about these elites running DC is that they are the most ignorant people on the planet.
Most of those tribal societies like it the way it is. That’s why they kicked out the colonialists. Look at the problems in India. There is a functioning British influenced democratic government and a huge lower caste that cannot seem to be raised up. They had to spin off Pakistan just to prevent millions from being slaughtered in a religious war (otherwise known as a class war).
Ditto with Russia. After the USSR collapsed, they got democracy. They’ve been moving back toward a strongman ever since because they like it that way. Russians aren’t happy unless they are being ruled. Arabs really aren’t happy unless they are being ruled.
These idiots inside the Beltway should be forced to read The Ugly American every year as a condition of receiving federal paychecks.

That matches perfectly with the literacy rate. Seems that anyone who can read prefers to be free, while non-readers don’t care.

i don’t get it. a poll to determine if they want democratic government? but a poll is all about the people having a choice. that’s what democracy is about. so if you like being polled then shouldn’t you like democracy?
praying that the gov’t in libya is better than the one it replaced.
