“I just went home, rearmed, reloaded my mags and I’m going to be fighting on a different front”
The governor and his wife, Anita Perry, in their first interview since Perry dropped out of the Republican presidential race, told Fox News that they regret not jumping into the race sooner, and Anita Perry hopes her husband will decide to run again…
Perry admits he wasn’t prepared during the presidential race for what he calls the “Debate Society.” He thinks he got much better at debating near the end of his campaign, but by then he came to the conclusion he wasn’t doing the race any good and was “absorbing some of the conservative vote.”
Perry also said his back surgery was a problem but not the reason for his rocky campaign start. If he does it again, Perry says there will be much more debate prep.

That heartless comment was a major unforced error, back surgery or no. Get your principles in line and come back to the game some time.

I think it would help him in the future if he really came out campaigning for the guy he endorsed!

Paul Ryan wants to push Grandma off a cliff, Rick Perry wants to gun her down.

If he was still in – I would be first in line at my caucus tonight. Now I’m not even going.
ABO in the general – that’s where I stand.
gophergirl on February 7, 2012 at 8:39 AM
The heartless comment killed him, and it was his second offense on that issue.
He clearly had zero debate prep in the early going, he had no campaign platform at the time and had little to talk about. He should have skipped the first few debates until he announced his tax and energy plan.
It’s all water under the bridge now. I would like to see him make a return with a more developed message on States Rights conservatism, and he will have to get rid of in state tuition for illegals to make up for the heartless comment. I really like the guy personally and felt he showed a lot of promise towards the end there.

Geez Rick..whatever you do don’t put anything resembling a target on your facebook page. The incivility might cause Debbie Washerman Schitz to have a aneurysm.

I sense the hand of Sarah Palin behind this quote!
rihar on February 7, 2012 at 8:46 AM
His principles are far more in line than Newt Romney’s are.
I would donate and work for Perry if he were the nominee. I will barely drag myself the three blocks to the polls to vote for Romney, and that’s only because Obama is so awful.

I was excited to see him run right up until he said that. When the Dems make another run at some kind of Dream Act legislation, I’d be surprised if that doesn’t start showing up in adds in districts and states of key opponents. It was a stunningly stupid and inaccurate thing to say. No excuses.
BuckeyeSam on February 7, 2012 at 8:54 AM
The local Austin media were kinda scratching their chins on that one. Y’all think he might end up someone’s running mate….?
Sekhmet on February 7, 2012 at 8:57 AM
Perry is much more knowledgeable and experienced than Palin may ever be with guns.
Kermit on February 7, 2012 at 8:58 AM
I hope the Governor runs again too. And I can’t wait to hear the heads explode when they analyze the references to the use of firearms.
hawkdriver on February 7, 2012 at 9:01 AM
I voted for him at the Iowa caucus. I can’t stand Romney, who can barely spell principle (he waffles between -al and -le).
Personally, I’m mad at Perry. Why? Because he was set to take the nomination before he even entered, and he could hardly have come to it less prepared, other than his bankroll. So yes, he needs to get his principles in line, practice advocating for them in writing and in speech, and come back to it when he’s actually prepared to do so.
beatcanvas on February 7, 2012 at 9:04 AM
The heartless comment was manipulated into a major gaffe, and too many people got sucked in imo.
“A notion of cowards”?..let it slide. “Corpsemen”..let it slide…”America has become lazy and weak”?..wha?..no problem.. “I want to work around Congress and consolidate power”?..ya..whatever. whats for lunch? etc..etc..etc. Heartless?????..stinkin RINO!! get outta here!!
Mimzey on February 7, 2012 at 9:14 AM
Yeah, well the opinion of those who thinks it was overblown didn’t count for much, did they.
Perry had too many enemies to make any mistakes.
-Romney supporters
-Cain supporters
-Palin supporters
-Obama supporters
-Bachman and her supporters get counted with Romney, she is a stalking horse for him.

Our own Chuck Knoblauch.
Damn good player in every aspect of the game.
Just couldn’t throw the ball to first base.
JohnGalt23 on February 7, 2012 at 9:46 AM
Gee John, how could I have left out the nuttiest of the nuballs, Paul supporters. Silly me.
cozmo on February 7, 2012 at 9:48 AM
Not sure why you would say that. Trust me, other than Paul, the one man I wish was still on that stage is Rick Perry. He’s the closest thing to a small-government conservative I saw other than Ron Paul.
But like Knoblauch, he demonstrated a complete inability to perform a critical function. I’m sorry, but it really is disqualifying.
And I am sad to say that.
JohnGalt23 on February 7, 2012 at 9:56 AM
On his record alone, Rick Perry should have been a shoo-in for the nomination. But those debate performances were beyond embarrassing and made him look not-up-to-the-job.
Outlander on February 7, 2012 at 10:20 AM
Guess not. Kinda worries me about how easily we can be swayed. Doesn’t bode well.
Mimzey on February 7, 2012 at 10:28 AM
Good. But the reason I am wary of you is that on two progressive policies, you are die hard and intransigent. They are important. Try to find your inner conservative on them. Immigrants are not greater than American Citizens from another state. Just because you suffered a loss and have strong emotions about some medical issue does not mean you have to make other people do the right thing.
Fix those Perry, and have a great hunting time!
astonerii on February 7, 2012 at 10:44 AM
..Rick’s into reloading? Wow! Cool! I got these Lee .222 dies for sale on eBay, Rick, if you need some good varmint rounds.

Patience, my dear, patience. Notice all the “re” words.
Brokered. Candidate. Perry.
platypus on February 7, 2012 at 10:47 AM
Maybe, but I’d be happy with either of them in a foxhole situation.
rihar on February 7, 2012 at 10:51 AM
That would be entertaining just to see the Romney fluffin’ nutballs heads explode.
cozmo on February 7, 2012 at 10:53 AM
Wah wah. The deck was always stacked against Perry and nothing he ever did was his fault. Wah wah.
MadisonConservative on February 7, 2012 at 11:05 AM
Coming from the number one Perry hatin’ nutball here, I figured it would get you to surface.
cozmo on February 7, 2012 at 11:07 AM
Talk about die-hard and intransigent, maybe you should brush up on those policies you so hate. Neither were important. As bad as Perry was “explaining” them, they didn’t amount to a hill o’ beans. Rather than being the kettle calling the pot black, maybe you should shed your state of ignorance and research those items.
cartooner on February 7, 2012 at 11:13 AM
You’re still on that? Pal, I’ve been accused of that for damn near every candidate, from Romney to Newt to Santorum to Paul. You are nothing but a cultist in denial, particularly if you’re STILL pretending that Perry can do no wrong.
MadisonConservative on February 7, 2012 at 11:15 AM
You always cheer me up
gophergirl on February 7, 2012 at 11:17 AM
Awe, are you saying that I am unable to make my own judgement on what is important and what is not important? Bully for you, oh, actually I mean, what a bully you are.
astonerii on February 7, 2012 at 11:18 AM
That just shows what a Perry hatin’ nutball you are.
I didn’t support Perry in this cycle and I didn’t support him during his last gubernatorial cycle.

Primary, that is.
cozmo on February 7, 2012 at 11:25 AM
…and he will have to get rid of in state tuition for illegals to make up for the heartless comment.
Since the Texas State Legislature passed that bit legislation with 98% majority (veto proof) how do you propose he “get rid” of it?
PakviRoti on February 7, 2012 at 11:26 AM
I miss Perry too. Had no qualms about making him my choice. Of all the original candidates, he would have done the most to reduce regulation and delegitimize the regulatory impulse.
J.E. Dyer on February 7, 2012 at 11:39 AM
Unprepared for the debates? He was an embarrassment. I cringed whenever he was going to speak. The heartless comment, couldn’t name 3 depts that he would cut, and couldn’t explain why social security is a ponzi scheme. This was not 1 debate, but 3 separate debates.
Mirimichi on February 7, 2012 at 11:42 AM
Then you are truly insane, because I’ve seen you do nothing but defend the guy as the greatest thing since sliced bread.
MadisonConservative on February 7, 2012 at 12:02 PM
I think that would be you who are insane.
I have defended all the republican candidates you hate, and even some of the one’s you didn’t hate.
