Komen Foundation halts donations to Planned Parenthood
The nation’s leading breast-cancer charity, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, is halting its partnerships with Planned Parenthood affiliates – creating a bitter rift, linked to the abortion debate, between two iconic organizations that have assisted millions of women. …
Planned Parenthood says the move results from Komen bowing to pressure from anti-abortion activists. Komen says the key reason is that Planned Parenthood is under investigation in Congress – a probe launched by a conservative Republican who was urged to act by anti-abortion groups. …
“We’re kind of reeling,” said Patrick Hurd, who is CEO of Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Virginia – recipient of a 2010 grant from Komen – and whose wife, Betsi, is a veteran of several Komen fundraising races and is currently battling breast cancer.
“It sounds almost trite, going through this with Betsi, but cancer doesn’t care if you’re pro-choice, anti-choice, progressive, conservative,” Hurd said. “Victims of cancer could care less about people’s politics.”

Good for Komen. Aren’t there studies that link abortions to increased risk of breast cancer? If so, it’s another good reason for them to sever ties. To do otherwise would have been ridiculously hypocritical.

Follow-up: While Wikipedia suggests there is only a “casual” link, some studies still posit strong links.

Can someone please explain to me how walking 60 miles cures breast cancer?
I saw a House episode where a guy who lost his “filter” asks his wife who was a walk coordinator, why don’t they build a house in the time they waste walking? Then they’d collect donations and have a house for someone, too. I guess I am missing a “filter,” too, cause I think that is a better idea.

I can return to supporting breast cancer research through this organization, now. Good.

Oh, and can they give the color pink back to little girls?
I am so sick of pink ribbons on everything. I purposely buy another brand of yogurt if I see the stupid pink ribbon on it. Boy, do I miss Andy Rooney, lol.

Two of them? lol
I know breast cancer is horrible. I lost a cousin to it but c’mon, there are other diseases out there that are just as devastating but they don’t hurt the “Ta-Ta’s” so they are not as “fun” to promote finding a cure. Enough is enough.

If they “could care less”, why don’t they ?

I wonder if he would have been OK with the Third Reich, if Hitler had provided free breast exams.

When affluent ghouls engage in sex-selection abortion, aren’t girls more likely to be aborted than boys?
It’s about time that a women’s organization woke up to this.

Ditto. Stopped giving to Komen years ago due to their affiliation with PP. Assuming they go through with severing the association, I’ll gladly go back to supporting them.
