Andrea Mitchell: Romney advisor told me elites will dump him if he loses Florida
“I talked to a top Romney adviser tonight who said, ‘Look, if Mitt Romney cannot win in Florida then we’re going to have to try to reinvent the smoke-filled room which has been democratized by all these primaries. And we’re going to have try to come with someone as an alternative to Newt Gingrich who could be Jeb Bush, Mitch Daniels, someone.’ Because there is such a desperation by the so-called party elites, but that’s exactly what Gingrich is playing against,” Andrea Mitchell said on NBC tonight after the debate.

Go Newt!

Guess it hasn’t sunk in with all the pseudo-conservative Hot Gas Newt fans that the reason he is rejected by “The Establishment” is because he’s too corrupt even for them.
The Count on January 24, 2012 at 1:34 PM
Wohoo!
GO NEWT!
GO NEWT!
GE NEWT!
Pragmatic on January 24, 2012 at 1:34 PM
You sound so desperate! IT.ISN’T.WORKING.DUMP.MITT PLEASE!
Go Newt!
Pragmatic on January 24, 2012 at 1:35 PM
You’ll fit right in.

At this point, I don’t even care. I will vote for whomever they put up against Obama that has an R after their name…even Hillary.
Mitt, get your stuff together and figure out how to articulate easily defendable positions on Bain and your income and bring it! Jeeze.
Youngs98 on January 24, 2012 at 1:39 PM
Didn’t he quit in 2008 after he lost in West Virginia? If he starts running behind, I think he might drop out again before the convention.
Mitt Romney’s concession speech was Feb 07, 2008, 2 days later.
Santorum is no Mike Huckabee, and I expect he’s going to drop out soon when he does the conservative vote isn’t going to be split anymore.
Dr Evil on January 24, 2012 at 1:40 PM
It’s all D.C. Kabuki, the progressives want a progressive in the White House. They will take Brand D as default if Brand R can’t pull it off. That the American people don’t understand that these people collude to stay in power, and jockey for feeding position at the corporate troughs (SEE elites will dump Mitt Romney) at this late stage of their scam, an American citizen/voter, would have to “willingly suspend all disbelief”.
Dr Evil on January 24, 2012 at 1:50 PM
Telling isn’t it, that of the 1000 reporters out there they could choose, Mittens’ team uses Adrea Mitchell of MSNBC to tell their story.
angryed on January 24, 2012 at 1:55 PM
Show me where Palin is backing Gingrich. She has not endorsed his candidacy. The only think really backing Newt is Mr. Adelson out in Vegas.
ConservativePartyNow on January 24, 2012 at 1:55 PM
Romney quit after Super Tuesday, which was 2/5/08. By that point, McCain had 511 delegates to Romney’s 176–i.e., an insurmountable lead. This year, Super Tuesday is 3/6 and more states allocate their delegates proportionally rather than by winner-take-all.

I think if Gov. Romney loses Florida, the establishment Republicans will make Obama look like an amateur. Newt is either ready or he isn’t.
Cindy Munford on January 24, 2012 at 1:59 PM
The RNC/NR/Elite is great at attacking conservatives. It would be nice if they could do that against a Democrat every now and then. I know, I’m dreaming.

Scarecrows can talk?
kuro_shogun on January 24, 2012 at 2:04 PM
Uh… the “I’d vote for him if I were in South Carolina?” Todd’s announcement of his support? Her article declaring “Anybody But Romney?”
The only reason she hasn’t issued a formal endorsement him is so she doesn’t burn all her bridges with the Republican Party should Gingrich lose.
Doomberg on January 24, 2012 at 2:04 PM
Yes you are.
Cindy Munford on January 24, 2012 at 2:04 PM
I thought the establishment was a myth. So who could these people be that are talking about dumping Romney? Maybe just random guys off the street?
Doomberg on January 24, 2012 at 2:07 PM
Don’t feed the troll. C’mon it’s Andrea Mitchell,
Mallard T. Drake on January 24, 2012 at 2:07 PM
reporting from Washington….Andrea “scarface” Mitchell.

Movement conservatives tend not to like Newt because he’s vindictive, lacks sound judgment, and sells out conservative principles for political expediency. Newt’s done the latter several times even in the past few years–e.g., the Nancy Pelosi global warming ad, attacking Paul Ryan for being a “right wing social engineer,” and using class warfare against Romney.
Outlander on January 24, 2012 at 2:15 PM
More evidence that the Left wants to run against Gingrich. They’ll say anything. Lying and distorting is part of their skill set.
cicerone on January 24, 2012 at 2:23 PM
Uhh… “movement conservatives?” If you’re talking about the Tea Party, you do realize that they’re the core of Gingrich’s support… right?
Additionally, all the attacks you’re making on Newt apply to Romney in triplicate. Also, when he held the Speakership – you know, when he wielded actual political power – did he sell us out? Did he refuse to pass the Contract with America?
Doomberg on January 24, 2012 at 2:26 PM
That’s troll talk. Either that or you’re not a dreamer but simply delusional. Newt’s the one who attacks conservatives with Left-wing talking points. “Right-wing social engineering” ring a bell?
cicerone on January 24, 2012 at 2:27 PM
Notice the quotes? I was just using your nomenclature for our ostensible adversaries, according to you – no, not democrats but the people we elect to stop democrats – aka, “The Establishment”. Everybody knows that they’re the real problem, right? Fool.
The Count on January 24, 2012 at 2:27 PM
Someone check in on Buy Danish, Jailbreak and bluegill. Make sure they don’t self harm.
HerneTheHunter on January 24, 2012 at 2:29 PM
How is this bad news? Romney and Gingrich are jokes. Evidently Romney has been told if he can’t beat Gingrich in FL, his money and support will dry up from the elites, and they will draft someone to run.
MarkNY on January 24, 2012 at 2:31 PM
Oh so true. And yet conservatives continue to argue Romney vs. Gingrich vs. Obama, as if any of them would actually change how Washington works to adhere to our founding documents or for the benefit of the citizen/taxpayer.
gravityman on January 24, 2012 at 2:32 PM
Gullible much? Suddenly you’re willing to take Andrea Mitchell’s word on anything? Apparently anti-Romney paranoia causes so-called “conservatives” to believe whatever nonsense MSNBC tells them. It’s strange how comfortable the paranoids have become with the talking points of MSNBC, the NY Times, WaPo, PPP, etc?
What’s the common denominator? They all want Newt to be the nominee so that Obama can ultimately get re-elected.
cicerone on January 24, 2012 at 2:33 PM
I would say that people we vote to stop the Democrats who then start going along with, or implementing, Democrat policies (like constant spending increases) are the enemy, yes. Aren’t you in favor of getting rid of people who don’t do their jobs?
Doomberg on January 24, 2012 at 2:42 PM
We live in a country where this word “elites” is now used openly and without embarrassment.

Sarah Palin is trying to defeat Mitt Romney and those in the establishment that betrayed her. Romney loses Florida it will appear as if she did so without even leaving Wasilla.
CoolChange80 on January 24, 2012 at 2:54 PM
Mitt started with the leftwing attacks on Perry regarding Social Security so take that BS somewhere else.

The War Planner on January 24, 2012 at 3:10 PM
And coming from Andrea Mitchell, that sounds like a dog whistle for the seditionist liberals voting in the wrong primary to go vote for Newt.
321mdl on January 24, 2012 at 3:12 PM
..it’s called grasping at straws. You wait until we get midway through this thing and voters begin to tire of Gingrich’s flip-petulance-in-place-of-substantive-answers and he begins to fade. Then you’ll see some real desperation.
The War Planner on January 24, 2012 at 3:14 PM
Look what I saw the other day….h/t Legal Insurrection for link: Newt is biggest threat to Obama

Because Mitt Romney has just the perfect amount of corruption — not too little, not too much.
