It’s all so clear now: Newt is, like, totally electable
I guess that the final element which convinced me of the errors of my past ways and set me on the path to truth, is that Newt has already essentially given the Romney campaign a probably terminal cancer by legitimizing the attacks on his wealth. It is clear that the base is not energized by Romney (and we all know how important that is since so few conservatives are excited to vote against Obama and that an enthusiastic vote counts so much more than a tepid one) and that the conservative media will not rally around him because they really have no financial incentive to see Obama defeated.
Therefore, it makes perfect sense to abandon the Romney idea and reward the guy who mortally wounded him by giving them the nomination. I am sure Newt did this not because of some sort of selfish personal vendetta or agenda, but rather because, in his infinite wisdom, he realized it was the only way to convince the less enlightened among us to embrace the glory that is him and his candidacy. Thank you Newt!…
This website has been offering the first prominent conservative who wanted it, a $10,000 bet (at two to one odds!) that Newt would lose to Obama. To date, no one has taken me up on it. At first, I naively thought this was because everyone realized as I did that Newt had no chance to beat Obama. But now I understand that Newt supporters were simply being merciful to me for my ignorance and didn’t want to engage in any “vulture capitalism” by taking advantage of my obvious stupidity.
However, being a man of my word, the $10,000 bet stands. Since I have read so many conservative commentators who are clearly so much more insightful than me say that a short, old, fat, angry, white, male named Newt is just the guy we need to beat Obama, I figured I should reward at least one of them by allowing them this obvious gift. I honestly won’t mind because being assured of making Obama a one-termer will be easily worth the money.

The wailing, complaining, and gnashing of teeth this week has been epic. Even Palin did not inspire this kind of fury from the liberal Republicans. We’re getting into Christine O’Donnell levels or hate, here.
Doomberg on January 22, 2012 at 9:10 AM
Gingrich wasn’t the first one to s;ling that mud.
Ziegler’s using that shtick more often than I do here. Why doesn’t Ziegler ever bet that his favorites will actually win?

Why does Hot Air continue to give this idiot space?
Pragmatic on January 22, 2012 at 9:14 AM
I got as far as him calling everyone in SC stupid.
What garbage, thankfully in Israel they come to collect the trash on Sundays, or it’d be stuck with this foul odor all day.
saus on January 22, 2012 at 9:17 AM
Right. That’s the only possible explanation for Newt’s victory.
casel21 on January 22, 2012 at 9:21 AM
It’s almost as if Allahpundit has some kind of puppy-love thing going on with this freak Ziegler.
BCrago66 on January 22, 2012 at 9:23 AM
They’re going to be pushing the meme hard in the coming weeks should Newt continue gaining steam. “I’m sorry, I just can’t vote in the general for someone who criticizes capitalism and punishes people for success.”
Doomberg on January 22, 2012 at 9:25 AM
One minor point but major one for professional writer. The word “probably” modifies given if it actually modifies anything.
casel21 on January 22, 2012 at 9:26 AM
Ziegler again? Aren’t this guy’s rants way past their sell-by date?
DB9 on January 22, 2012 at 9:28 AM
What the heck is wrong with Ziegler? I don’t think anyone is especially enthused about Newt — erratic, egomaniac, prone to big government — but at least he fights. Mittens seems to be embarrassed by his wealth, doesn’t want to defend capitalism. Right now we have an out and out marxist in the White House, some one who’s bleeding us dry. We have to stop that first. Then we can start getting back on the right path. Let the primary process continue out, see if Mitt can find his backbone. Newt is willing to take the fight to the Fascist-Democrat party, is Romney?

John Ziegler is like, totally nuts!

He’s right.
I’m starting to think a brokered convention is the only thing that can save us this year.

The whole article is comedy gold. And no Newt supporter can actually respond to the posts. I’m not mad that conservatives are self imploding, but its sort of fascinating to watch. Goldwater redux.
libfreeordie on January 22, 2012 at 9:41 AM
What you’re witnessing is the non-indoctrinated portion of the population engaging in politics. Unlike “liberals”, conservatives don’t act and think as a monolithic group which responds to stimuli and orders from their central communist command.
It’s how normal people act Perhaps one day if you are deprogrammed you too can be normal once again.

Pretty rich coming from someone who suddenly realizes they left a cake burning in the oven every time we start posing the tough questions about Obama.
Kataklysmic on January 22, 2012 at 9:57 AM
First of all, that not “self imploding” you are seeing. It’s called an election process where all the candidates are getting vetted.
I understand that the left doesn’t go for this vetting thing (see current White House resident)because let’s face it, the left has no values so what’s there to vet? Just do what you’ve been doing and nominate the guy with the best campaign slogan.
dirtseller on January 22, 2012 at 9:57 AM
The problem is Ziegler is looking at this as a common political problem. If we elect a moderate that will be dem light the country will continue our last 50year cycle of creeping socialism and big gov. Romney has already said he just wants to replace Obamacare with something better. My guess since he will go with a state grant method and have the states write 50 mini Obamacares, after all ever state has their own insurance laws now anyway (one of the main state beefs with Ocare).
We need a pres election like 10′ fought based on ideas not some idiotic popularity contest were our candidate fights to make everyone happy and ends up making no one happy.
We need a MANDATE to get change and to get a MANDATE you must run a campaign on ideas not how people believe you “look” presidential but stand for nothing.
Romney cannot get a mandate because he has no foundation of ideas and will not take risk because that entails well risk.
C-Low on January 22, 2012 at 10:01 AM
Ziegler should get some Preparation H for that sore ass of his.
DRayRaven on January 22, 2012 at 10:08 AM
Just wanted to clarify my definition of what a mandate is for in this election. A mandate and a Pres that can articulate conservatism properly fearlessly is required to rally the people enough to force the changes needed, ala Reagan jumping over the branches heads and going directly to the people to bring pressure to bear.
Debt – You think the congress maybe along with the senate can make the DRASTIC cuts needed in the waste and welfare programs without a pres out front rallying the people explaining along the way why hard choices are required?
Regulation – Ever wonder why its cheaper for the big industry to go overseas build a new factory train an entire new crew then ship all the goods back and still be more profitable? Regulation, it will take a leader that can articulate conservative ism to break the Dem fear mongering to convince the people the benefits of de-regulation (JOBS) out weight the few abuses that can be handled other ways like through our judicial system.
Military – Simply put in todays world you must maintain a powerful air and navy with a high level army that capable of rapid expansion. The reason is technology and the ability to move forces equipment and place ordinance has grown leaps. You cannot be attacked and have time to build a force to fight with before being over ran ala WW2. After pearl it took us over a year to start to push back in today’s world it would have been over in a year. Not to mention the military is one of the few truly constitutional duties of our FED gov.
-before you even start this the above must be done to build trust and confidence. People are very protective of their parents and to fix this it will require some risk. Social Security.
Social Security – You think a go along get along lets meet in the middle can fix SS? It will take radical choices many hard and yes risk will be involved. The easy answer usually doesn’t work takes work and risk.

Dude. This is why you’re not supposed to attack fellow republicans. You end up sounding like a shrill lefty. That goes for Newt too who has been even worse.

Didn’t this guy dig himself into a hole last week? This isn’t even fun to watch anymore.

For a while it looked as if the GOP might be capable of coming together around one candidate. Had that candidate been anyone but Newt or Mtt, that might be happening. The divisions within our Party seem greater than those of left and right. Beat Obama at any cost is becoming a failed mantra.
jeanie on January 22, 2012 at 11:01 AM
Ziggy is a true passive-aggressive punk. It’s easy to see why he’s been fired from virtually every job he’s had. He’s Olby pretending to be conservative.
