Florida: Romney 46, Gingrich 20, Santorum 12
“Mitt’s media ads have successfully positioned him as the only true ‘outsider’ candidate running against other inside-the-Beltway contenders (Gingrich and Santorum in particular), a smart tactic in a year when voters feel Washington is broken,” Lee noted. “At the same time, he is defining his opponents even before voters have a chance to learn more about their positive attributes (Santorum, Gingrich, etc.). This means we’re unlikely to see any of the anti-Romney candidates surging unless one of them can generate momentum from a strong South Carolina showing and/or reshape the race with effective paid TV ads.”

If Romney wins SC, its over….HOWEVER, wither Newt or Santorum need to stay in the race to the very end. Why? Because Paul’s goal is to get it 1-1 with Romney, at which point he will begin to attack Romney and try to re-define conservatism in the process.

Inevitable.
Get in line, sheep.
Abby Adams on January 17, 2012 at 11:24 AM
lol, everyone tries to paint themselves as “the only true outsider.” it’s hilarious because usually, it’s not actually accurate…
romney is in for a big surprise if he expects everyone to fall in line like sheep. he might be underestimating the amount of people who don’t like him and don’t want to vote for him, despite all the “electable” and “inevitable” talk.

That’s a baaaaaaad attitude. I’m not going to let the polls pull the wool over my eyes.
sorry, just trying to inject a little humor because I can imagine how disappointed you must be.

First there were 50 states, than 57 or 60, now there are just 3 states?

More people don’t like the alternatives.
haner on January 17, 2012 at 11:31 AM
It’s almost not worth seeing the threads that Romney is winning polls- all it does is bring out the crazies. The other one has the loons arguing about how the world is coming to an end because God hates Mormons. Really pathetic stuff.

I’m caucusing for Romney Feb 7th. The die is cast.

Unless Mittens runs a dreadful general election campaign, people WILL fall in line. Sorry, but there’s no way in hell I’m not voting to throw Obama out of office, even if the alternative is Romney who I’m not exactly fond of. I’d rather fight Romney and the GOP Congress(at least the non-Tea Party faction of it) over the next 4 years which at least could result in some legislative victories as opposed to Obama who we know will stand in the way of anything getting done.

I don’t get it.
This is dumb.
Why bother with a vote? Just do some polling and …there ya go.
Are we sheep? Seriously…are we sheep?
There is a number of one or two hour ‘pop quizzes’, and this is what we base our judgements on? The problem with this pony show, is that we know what people positions are on topics, yet one or two badly formed answers or falling for a “gotcha” question by a agenda driven moderator and suddenly…”Oh Crap..I thought I liked that one…now..maybe I should like that one!”
“I know Mitt/Newt/Rick/etc. flip flops on important issues….but he was reealy good at dodging it last night…I still know it’s bullshit, but what I want is a good bullshitter..even if its directed at me!…I can always complain later.”
The whole process just seems kinda dumb after a point.

If – If – Romney does become the GOP candidate – we all have to hope that he shapes a general election strategy as sound as this primary campaign.
The man has NOT made a major mistake – in this day and age of 24/7 media – that’s pretty strong.
jake-the-goose on January 17, 2012 at 11:36 AM
All of this polling was conducted before last night’s debate, which I viewed as a game-changer for Newt. Standing ovation will resonate far and wide, IMO. And I hope that’s not just wishful thinking on my part…
nicktjacob on January 17, 2012 at 11:37 AM
It is. The past few weeks of Newt was something I’d hoped had gone away with age. He’s still better than Romney in my view; but his tendency to parrot the talking points of the left when it suits him is disturbing.
lorien1973 on January 17, 2012 at 11:42 AM
I doubt more than 20% of SC watched the debate and of those 1-3% might change their minds. I’m into the GOP race and I skipped that debate out of boredom. My wife doesn’t even know who’s running. Not everyone lives by debates.
Romney gets a bigger bump from Huntsman than Newt gets from that debate.
hanzblinx on January 17, 2012 at 11:43 AM
It’s Mitt’s turn.
fossten on January 17, 2012 at 11:45 AM
The sudden push to release these polls, all taken before the debate, feels suspiciously like trying to blunt the narrative of the debate itself.

And if after all of this, he fails to win because he failed to anticipate everything 0bama has had three plus years to prepare against him in the general election…?
The Titanic was sold as unsinkable too

Holy ouch!!!!
Romney is in it, to win it.

I can’t rule it out at this point.

This is probably true, but Mitt is “winiiiing” by default and not by peoples choice.
He’s about out of those people to raise his numbers.

Who didn’t realize that Romney would be the nominee way back last spring?
