DeMint: “I really don’t want Ron Paul to drop out”
“I really don’t want Ron Paul to drop out until whoever our front-runner is is collecting some of the ideas that he’s talking about,” DeMint, who recently predicted Mitt Romney would win the Jan. 21 South Carolina primary, said when TheDC asked if it was time for other GOP presidential contenders to drop out and support the former Massachusetts governor.
“Ron Paul is right on the fact that we’ve got an out of control and unaccountable Federal Reserve that is eventually going to create a major crisis,” said DeMint. “He’s also right in the importance of individual liberty and the whole constitutional limited government. And more of our candidates need to incorporate that.”…
“I don’t agree with Ron Paul on foreign policy and his disengagement around the world, but we’re going to end up where he is because we don’t have any money,” DeMint said. “So the Republican Party needs to become the big tent of Americans who really want freedom, prosperity, opportunity and that’s just synonymous with a more limited government.”

All those who bashed Palin for saying much the same thing will promptly show up to bash DeMint. Of this I am sure.

Texas is where Americans are moving to for freedom and prosperity and opportunity. Texas is the model for the US gov to follow.

Again – Ron Paul has struck a cord out there. His supporters are not odd or dumb – most are simply sick of the US Government intruding into their lives – and he speaks to that feeling.
All respect to Paul and his supporters. The rest of us must listen and learn. IMO

Freedom via less government is attractive.

He’ll join the Nikki Haley, Ayotte and a few other’s anti-TEA-party lot.
TEA = Taxed Enough Already. Hardly anyone focuses on the real meaning, from the left, to the right.

A majority of Paul’s base are NOT republicans, are Not Limited Govt. Conservatives and ARE, like Paul a collection of Anarchist, Racist, Cranks, Conspiracy Theorist, the Paranoid and all round losers. Along with the Kids, attracted as to Obama to an Utopian message.
None of these people, LIKE PAUL, will EVER in a Million years support the GOP nominee.
Just like how Paul in 2008 and every GOP election for that matter, has refused to support the nominee.

Sounds like DeMint has been reading Ulsterman’s Wall Street Insider Report. Nevertheless, DeMint is right we can use all hands on deck.
msmveritas on January 12, 2012 at 3:35 PM
DeMint, please just shut up. First you dont run and we get rotten crop of lunatics to choose from and now you defend the biggest nutjob out there, the Republican Partys very own Cindy-Sheehan-conservative. And I thought this primary would only ruin the reputation of contenders…

WTF are you smoking? Have you ever been AROUND Paulbots? I am guessing you ARE one, or you have no clue as to what you are talking about.

Demint is another pretender Conservative, all talk no action.

Learn what? that Libertarian are neither Capitalists nor Conservatives, That Ron Paul has been Running for President since 1988 trashes Conservatives in every one of his campaigns, including Ronald Reagan himself, That Ron Paul is not a Republican and has changed parties twice, That his social and foreign policy views are naive and destructive and based on the naive Libertarian axioms of Not Aggression at all costs.

Demint is presenting a False Dichtomy that Paul wants to portray: That only he supports Liberty, the Constitution and “Sound Money”(all 3 of which I’d argue he’s actually not supporting).
Levin pointed out last night he’s always supported these things, wrote books on them and does not need to adopt anything.
Demint is an Idiot.

The comments in here are really interesting.
On the one hand, people say they don’t want Paul to run third party. They express disgust over the possibility that many Paul supporters might not vote for the eventual GOP nominee. They balk at the idea of adopting any aspect of Paul’s platform to help reign in the support of his fans. So why then shouldn’t Paul run third party? Why should his supporters vote for the GOP nominee when it’s clear that a sizable segment of the Republican base wants nothing to do with him or any of his libertarian ideas? It doesn’t make sense to keep pushing them all away like this. Paul’s harshest critics are basically begging him and his supporters to not vote Republican in the general. That’s very odd.
Say what you will about Paul’s foreign policy ideas, but even Rush admitted that Paul’s economic plan is the most bold out of all the nominees. He and Paul Ryan seem to be the only two people in the party who are truly serious about cutting spending and paying down the debt. There’s nothing crazy about that.

So DeMint was against the ‘big tent’ before he was for the ‘big tent’.
LOL… I bet that curled some toes.
Texas Gal on January 12, 2012 at 4:00 PM
Damn skippy.
This is the only guy talking about taking a chainsaw to the budget.
Valiant on January 12, 2012 at 4:03 PM
He is clearly referring to Paul’s supporters which is not even close to the “big tent” being talked about among the liberal wing of the GOP.
joey24007 on January 12, 2012 at 4:04 PM
By what means do you say libertarians are not capitalists? Seems like a ridiculous statement.
Jimmy Liberty on January 12, 2012 at 4:13 PM
Oh so DeMint was just talking about the Pagans and not the Heathens? Or vis-a-versa?

I love Jim DeMint. He brings common sense to his points of view.
Here is another conversation starter. The comments that follow it are worth viewing, too.

I just love it. Demint and Palin say nice things about Paul and those nice things mean that Demint and Palin are sellouts. That Demint and Palin aren’t ‘tea party’ enough or ‘real conservatives’.
Absolutely amazing to watch.
