Santorum on Romney’s Bain work: “I’m not making it a liability. I believe in the private sector.”
Leaving the frozen event, Santorum also declined to take a shot at Romney over a remark earlier from the front-runner that he “likes to fire” workers who are not doing a good job.
“We try to hire good people, we try to keep them employed. If someone if obviously not performing their duty and their mission, obviously a business has a responsibility for the greater good of the business and the other employees to make sure that everybody there is pulling their weight,” Santorum said.
Asked whether Romney’s corporate takeover experience at Bain Capital would be a liability, Santorum said: “I’m not making it a liability. I believe in the private sector.”

At least Santorum refuses to go OWS, that should make him a better qualified NOT-ROMNEY than Newt/Perry.

Santorum’s right. He’s not making it a liability. It’s a liability to Mitt all on its own.
Stoic Patriot on January 9, 2012 at 3:36 PM
how?
MadisonianRombot on January 9, 2012 at 3:38 PM
Well, then I guess Santorum’s saying that he has Judeo-Christian values was lie…that is too bad.
American free market capitalism has Judeo-Christian values, not the values of Mr. Potter.
Another reason not to support Santorum

Don’t question the Mittphobics. They are now anti capitalism. Smart move by Santorum.
andy85719 on January 9, 2012 at 3:40 PM
Rick, don’t even think about it. Mitt will not choose you to be VP.

Hey, look: sanity!

Smart move.
Seperates himself from Newt and Perry as the leading Romney alternative.

And the notion that it would be perceived as a liability at all simply underlines the problem. Nothing turns a capitalist into a socialist faster than personal market failure. People who do not fully appreciate both the upside and downside of capitalism will turn to socialism for protection.

Rick got this one right. Good for him. That’s one.
Look Polish on January 9, 2012 at 3:51 PM
He’s always been running for Vice President. From Day One. I hope Romney chooses him. As Romney girl Ann Coulter said last election:
“If we’re going to jump in the swamp, let’s jump in all the way – feet first and over our heads!”
Marcus on January 9, 2012 at 3:53 PM
What were the companies those people worked for?
If they went Bankrupt when did that happen? When did Bain acquire them?
What company did Bain acquire solely for the purpose of laying off workers and selling off assets. When was that?
What percentage of Bain Capital investments were successful during the period of 1984-1999?
MadisonianRombot on January 9, 2012 at 3:53 PM
Yes, Yes, Finally some sanity,
I have said earlier that my second choice right now would be Santorum, since i don’t believe that he isn’t a true free market guy,
OrthodoxJew on January 9, 2012 at 3:56 PM
I’m no Santorum fan (far too socially conservative and fiscally liberal for this libertarian), but he comes off well as a candidate. I don’t agree with many, many things that he says, but he’s smart, articulate and certainly no bogeyman. I won’t vote for him, but he’s a refreshing alternative to Newt’s whiny little kid act of the last few weeks.
sobincorporated on January 9, 2012 at 4:00 PM
Good. Now if he could just walk back his inexplicable comments about being a “manager” in Sunday’s a.m. debate.
Buy Danish on January 9, 2012 at 4:02 PM
Huh, so he irks me with his support for something akin to SOPA on the one hand…and he impresses me with his integrity on defending the free market and capitalism and declining to join the opportunistic non-conservative Romney-bashing.
People are complex like that. But good for Santorum.
Esoteric on January 9, 2012 at 4:02 PM
No Seriously,
What company did Bain “raid” or “plunder”, laying of its workforce and selling off the assets?

TeleL on January 9, 2012 at 3:40 PM
Exactly what makes you think Rick wants a VP job from Romney. He supports capitalism….and this surprises you. It is like Rick is between a rock and a hard place….support Romeny’s work at Bain = automatic supporter reject it and you are an OWS….
PuritanD71 on January 9, 2012 at 4:20 PM
Perry the Al Gore Democrat and Newt Gingrich. They deserve each other.
