Obama seems kind of distant
More noteworthy than Mr. Obama’s spending the short flight calling his longtime aide is what he did not do: schmooze with Washington politicians. No one from the New Hampshire Congressional delegation traveled with Mr. Obama on the plane, a perk that presidents often offer to lawmakers to foster good will…
He typically golfs with a trio of mid- to low-level staff members little known outside the West Wing. He does not spend much time at Camp David, the retreat other presidents have used to woo Washington. His social life runs toward evenings playing Taboo with old friends and their families, Wii video games with his wife and daughters or basketball with Robert Wolf, a banker and the rare new best friend Mr. Obama has acquired since entering politics. He vacations with friends from Chicago on Martha’s Vineyard in August and in Hawaii at Christmas…
To many in Washington — including those, of course, who crave presidential face time — Mr. Obama’s seeming aloofness is risky. He is the nation’s politician in chief, and the presidency has always been first and foremost about politics…
The president hosts plenty of large gatherings — like a recent holiday reception at the White House, attended by 400 lawmakers and their spouses — but they lack the intimacy of smaller events, where there is real give and take, Mr. Cardoza and others lawmakers said.
Similarly, some of the president’s aides acknowledge complaints from Democratic fund-raisers that they have not been shown much love from the president, beyond standard grip-and-grin photographs at fund-raising dinners.

Not distant enough….
Though I’m only hoping for a distant second place in November….

Reading that article cost me about 12 IQ points.

Retreating to his inner circle.
If there’s anyone out there who DIDN’T see this coming, raise your hand.

Read it 10 more times and you’ll become a Democrat.

Narcissists generally do not shower attention on others.

Of course he is distant. He is watching the Republicans in the dog fight for the win to fight him.

Obama seems kind of distant, in a foreign or alien way.

Reggie, the only person in White House to whom Obama could say “yo dawg” to and feel comfortable.
BobMbx on December 29, 2011 at 12:12 PM
That implies he ever left his inner circle in the first place.

Gee-whiz NYT… thanks for the insight.

Well no shiite. PBHO and Mooch went after the White House for the perks and freebies; grifters don’t want to make friends, they want to steal and then move on to the next victim.

I heard on Fox this morning that the press is in a snit because he cut them off on his golf trip and his dinner with friends last night. They wouldn’t even have known who and where he went if it wasn’t for the fact that one of their esteemed colleague wasn’t eating there. They were banished to a strip mall.

Nothing’s changed. He used to pull that same stuff during the campaign. Remember that thing with his kid’s softball game, or something? And his campaign froze press people out on a whim. Even the slobbering ones. That just made them slobber more to try and get back in.
ThePrimordialOrderedPair on December 29, 2011 at 12:25 PM
TOTUS doesn’t like intimacy or smaller events.
Caper29 on December 29, 2011 at 12:26 PM
If The One seems “distant” it is all his fault.
Actually, it is more correct to say “preoccupied” than “distant.”
He is spending way to much time on that White House balcony in his Mussolini uniform giving speeches about invading Ethiopia and re-building the Roman Empire.
And there are the daily teleconferences with his troops on the Planet Zebo in Galaxy 224G. The back and forth on the transmissions waste alot of time.
I know! He needs a vacation. Do some golf. Kick back. Needs to start planning it as soon as he gets back from Ha-vi-eee.

This is the first I’ve heard of Reggie Love and I did an image search. It certainly looks like a very special friendship. Also, BO supported civil unions as a Senator – just saying.

No comment needed. It speaks for itself. I wonder if he teared-up at the “I miss him” part. Bet it produced an evil glare from Moochelle.

Amazing spin for the most uninvolved president in recent history.
princetrumpet on December 29, 2011 at 12:39 PM
Not always. Just to Democrats.
To everyone else, the Presidency is about principled leadership.
UltimateBob on December 29, 2011 at 12:59 PM
So the NYT admits that Obama doesn’t want to BE president, he wants to PRETEND to be President. He wants to be the celebrity at center stage in front of adoring crowds. He wants to be the BMOC host of prestigious high powered social gatherings where he gets the credit for being the BMOC. He wants to travel in style while someone else pays for it.
Most importantly, Obama doesn’t make decisions, he only wants to approve or reject decisions others have offered.

Until then, he’s waaaaaay too close.

He didn’t get what he really, really wanted for Christmas, and he’s distracted because he can’t understand how people could be so stupid and unknowing of his wants.
Just a guess.
