Is Bloomberg running?
Circumstances are also different now because Bloomberg is not taking any evident pleasure in his job. At least Silvio Berlusconi — the media mogul who became the prime minister of Italy as the country’s richest man and is the closest analog to Bloomberg on the world stage — seemed to enjoy his time atop Italy’s greasy pole before his recent resignation.
Not our mayor. He looks tired and bored and annoyed. And there are two long years until his liberation from the third term he foolishly sought.
But what is a man who clearly loves the spotlight, the attention and the idea that he is a get-it-done guy who transcends ideological and partisan categorization to do?
The path to 270 electoral votes and the presidency is no more evident than it ever has been for an independent. But combine his boredom with the opinion (which he might be inclined toward) that only he can save America from itself, and who knows what might happen?
I think I do. It is a terrific time for an independent to run, but only because the president is so weak. Bloomberg might even do better than Perot; he might even win a couple of states. But given his own ideological predilections — meaning, he’s a nanny-state liberal — it’s more likely than not that those states would be ones Obama would otherwise win.

If Doomberg has any sense, he’ll run away before the peasants get their pitchforks and torches over OWS.

I’d prefer to see him run 3rd party for the 2016 election. We don’t need liberal votes split this election, Obama’s going to lose anyway.

Spare me. Pleeease.

I don’t know. If Romney’s the nominee, I think a Bloomberg run seals the deal for Obama. There go those independents and disaffected Dems who make up Romney’s base.

There is already a big government liberal running for president. His name is Obama. What does anyone need Bloomberg for?

Bloomberg has treated the largest metropolis in the city like his personal play-pen, his cronyism is legendary and his one “signature” accomplishment was causing two decades worth of damage to the NYC public school system. Besides being really, really rich what qualification does he have to run? He only won his third term because the Dems were too busy in Jersey.

He ain’t that stupid….He really screwed the POOCH on his chances with OWS debacle, New Yorkers aren’t to happy with him…His tenure in NYC is a follows 1st term decent (rding on Rudys coattails), 2nd term mediocre to piss poor, 3rd term God awful..

Running? For President?….Bwwahahaha!

Yes, would ensure Obama’s defeat, but would also remove conservative opportunity for an obvious mandate to accomplish pro-growth change.

As a resident of NYC, I just have to say Stop It to all these ridiculous Bloomy stories. He has been a terrible, Nanny State mayor and he is nothing but a rich narcissist who ran for a 3rd term despite Term Limits provisions because he was stinkin’ rich and could thumb his nose at the laws.He has NO national constituency beside what imaginary speckles exist in his delusional mind. And he let the lawless OWS hooligans gain a foothold while prohibiting restaurants from serving french fries the way they want.
So Stop It already. JUST — STOP — IT.

@ddrntn: Yes. He would hurt Romney almost as much as he’d hurt Obama. He’d help a more conservative nominee who relied on a charged up base.

He would be the JOhn Anderson of 2012. Anderson didn’t really cost Jimmy Carter the election, but he took most of his votes from Carter so Reagan’s margin of victory was bigger. I knew a lot of Democrats who voted for Anderson but would never have voted for Reagan.

A Bloomberg run makes sense if we nominate a conservative. Its hard to see any bright lines between Bloomberg, Romney, and Obama in a general election campaign.

The flyover states will never vote for a sniveling politician who outlawed salt in restaurants.
