Why, these tea partiers could drive the GOP to disaster
Perry would be a much weaker candidate than Romney, but if the voters are determined to fire the incumbent, then even a weak challenger can prevail. (See Barack Hussein Obama, 2008 candidacy of.)
In which case, not only tea party Republicans but all Republicans and all Americans will confront the problem: what next?
The tea party stands for a series of propositions that don’t meet the reality test: that deficits matter more than jobs, that cutting deficits and tightening credit will accelerate economic growth, that high taxes and over-regulation are the most important reasons that growth has not revived, and that America still offers the world’s best opportunity for the poor to rise. Tea party plans call for a radical shift in the burden of taxation from the rich to the poor — and promise big reductions in government spending without touching any of the benefits of current retirees.
If put into practice, the tea party platform is a formula for political and economic crisis.

Err, David, we are already in disaster and His name is Obumba.
Dingbat63 on October 31, 2011 at 8:09 PM
How many decades has this evil tea party been in power, looking at the destroyed economy?

I love the smell of progressive fear in the evening.

Why doesn’t Frum go live in one of the Obamavilles?

I thought Frum had already switched parties…

When Frum says “go this way” go the opposite direction. He is no friend to conservatives, and he is no friend to Republicans… well, except the Rino contingent.
44Magnum on October 31, 2011 at 8:22 PM
Frum–the athlete’s foot of the GOP.
ElectricPhase on October 31, 2011 at 8:24 PM
Frum should move to Greece and see how well out of control spending and cradle-to-grave government generosity works out in the long run.
Punchenko on October 31, 2011 at 8:28 PM
Frum is canadian–and it shows.
KickandSwimMom on October 31, 2011 at 8:33 PM
There is only one reason why everyone should pay taxes. So that everyone will care how the money is spent. When you get representation without taxation, you can vote like an idiot and not care.
Hog Wild on October 31, 2011 at 8:34 PM
If I hear the word conservative one more time in a description of Frum I will pull my nose hairs out.
CW on October 31, 2011 at 8:37 PM
Yeah, Frum doesn’t get it.
Our entire political class is determined to Roosevelt this entire country over the cliff.
The jobs aren’t coming back – ever – until the $14 trillion Sword of Debtocles is removed from the neck of investors. We’re in a musical chairs economy right now. Investors and businesses know that debt is ticking higher every hour, on pace for $25 trillion by the end of the decade. They know that one day, rather suddenly, bond purchasers will stop buying. They know that on that day, someone will have to pay that debt. They know it sure as heck isn’t going to be the poor and certainly won’t be the politically connected rich.
Nobody wants to be the last sucker with employees when the shoe drops.
In fairness, Frum is right. High taxes and over-regulation are not the reasons that growth has not revived. Having a President campaigning as an activist for high taxes and over-regulation and standing a decent chance at reelection is why growth has not revived.
Why on earth would you invest your money at this point in time?
HitNRun on October 31, 2011 at 8:45 PM
There was no incumbent running in 2008.
zmdavid on October 31, 2011 at 8:46 PM
David if I thought that you “think”, as opposed to “spew”, I would ask you how you think our current debt situation is not a political and economic crisis?
But you’d have to pull your head out of your arse to hear me, so…
JohnGalt23 on October 31, 2011 at 9:06 PM
Bingo.
30 years of steadily increasing over-regulation may have made you numb to it’s effects, but they are there. It’s not just the dreams of Obowma that are holding us back, but the actual weight of nearly a century of almost continuous leftist rule. TR, Wilson, Hoover, FDR, LBJ, Carter, even Nixon and Bush – non of them ever fought for any true conservative principle, and all either completely or partially bought into the socialist agenda.

Frum Fail.
(Though it is more the spending than the taxes)

Why Frum will eat a whole bakery November 2012.
Sammy316 on October 31, 2011 at 10:36 PM
Tea Partiers drive GOP to disaster? Like they did in 2010? David Frum is an absolute moron.
InkyBinkyBarleyBoo on October 31, 2011 at 10:37 PM
He is also stupid, very stupid, and that shows even more, much more. But he is a favorite of Allahpundit.
InkyBinkyBarleyBoo on October 31, 2011 at 10:39 PM
The inflamed appendix of the GOP.
InkyBinkyBarleyBoo on October 31, 2011 at 10:40 PM
I saw this in the summary and my head started to swim, like I’d fallen into a wormhole to another galaxy.
Why did I have to work for all the money I ever made when just being a pure idiot pays so well? What class did I miss in HS?
I am so pi$$ed.
