State Department buys $70,000 worth of Obama’s books
Leslie Paige, a spokeswoman for Citizens Against Government Waste, a watchdog group, said if the federal government is looking to cut costs, eliminating purchases of Mr. Obama’s books is a good place to start.
“It’s inappropriate for U.S. taxpayer dollars to be spent on this,” she said. “This sounds like propaganda.”…
There’s no indication the White House knew about the purchases, which overall represent just a fraction of the nearly quarter-million dollars Mr. Obama donated to charities last year and his more than $1.7 million in overall income. Mr. Clay said book orders are normally made directly by embassies based on “their experience and knowledge on the ground of the intended audience.”

Just think how mad this would make people if the most of them ever heard anything about it.

The books are then turned over to the Dept of Education so more “little Democrats” can produced.

Tax payer dollars going to buy one of the President’s memoirs….Unbelievable. Conflict of interest? What conflict of interest?

Currently in the Live Free or Die state.
My aunt’s husband is a very hardworking man, who has always done his thing. He and my aunt have really led a very simple life, really appreciating the basic things.
Truly the picture of the phrase “Live Free or Die.”
We had a long conversation in the kitchen this evening, and after hours of talking I really came to wholly accept that this man (Obarfy) is seriously the most DANGEROUS executive this nation has ever faced. He really is. I’ve always maintained him to be an “Amateur in Chief,” but during our discussion, I was both reminded by him and myself that this “President” is truly an intentional danger to everything American.
He needs to be gone. The left needs to be repudiated this year, and repudiated in a way that relegates them to the corners of American society. Whoever our candidate is this year, he needs to make a pitch to the middle of the American electorate. Our candidate needs to reach out to them, but not in a way that panders. Our candidate MUST remind the Holy Middle that this election cycle does not contain the luxury of multiple choice. There is water, there is wine. Light, dark. Life, death. Quite often life is that of duality, and “duality” certainly sums up where this country currently is. There are two clear paths; nothing more. The Holy Middle doesn’t need to find commonality with our candidate on everything, but they need to be told and reminded that this year there is no multiple choice. The nation sits on a razors edge.
Push or pull, people.

Thanks for that insight. That was before my time so I had to Google it. May Obama follow in Jim Wright’s footsteps.

Irony: 70K of our tax dollars are going to buy books that 98% of the wage-earners who were taxed the $70,000 that bought the books, would never read.
infidel4life on October 26, 2011 at 12:00 AM
Does the State Department have 70,00 employees ? How come it ordered 70,000 copies of the book? Or it is cheaper to use pages from the book as toilet papers?
bayview on October 26, 2011 at 12:03 AM
Because Obama is playing catch-up with Qaddafi.

Coincidence? I think not.

I’m not sure that an “anyone but Obama” message will do it and I don’t see a strong enough leader to convince the people the choice is obvious.
Cindy Munford on October 26, 2011 at 7:07 AM
I don’t understand what the article is getting at here. Are they saying this 70K worth of books was allegedly a charitible donation? Or what?
tommyboy on October 26, 2011 at 7:50 AM
It’s an effort to make this blatant misappropriation of public money sound less offensive. After all, there’s no evidence that the White House ordered the purchases, and 70 grand is just a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of cash Obama gave to charities like ACORN, Planned Parenthood and the ACLU.

Excellent post.
As John McClane would say, “Welcome to the party, pal!”

Like so many other things this administration is doing.
Take a look at that article in the green room on how U.S. taxpayers are now footing the bill to put new EPA-compliant mufflers on Mexican commercial trucks. If you’re a U.S. trucker using U.S. roads, you have to pay for all this EPA-mandated stuff for your truck with your own money. But if you’re a Mexican trucker using U.S. roads, the U.S. taxpayer is paying the tab for you — at a cost of $1,600 per truck.
Notice how many media stories we’ve seen describing this great new program? Yes, me neither.

Have seen several very eloquent comments by you in the last few months (don’t get here as much as I’d like) but I think this tops the rest. Well done.
