Newest cause of prostate cancer: Eating eggs?
Men who eat more than two-an-a-half eggs on a weekly basis are 80 per cent more likely to contract the disease, claim researchers at Harvard School of Public Health in Boston.
The risk from eggs could be due to their high levels of cholesterol and choline, a nutrient that helps cells function, according to the scientists.
But cancer groups said the link between eggs and prostate cancer could be down to other factors, as men who ate the most eggs were also more likely to have a poor diet, be overweight, smoke and take less exercise.

The egg is a perfect food. I don’t believe it for a second.

Still, the number one cause of prostate cancer is having a prostate. Weird.

80%? I don’t believe that. I would like a second opinion on that figure.

Sitting around on your fat ass, eating crap and smoking couldn’t be it. It has to be the 3 eggs. /

Men who suffer from prostate cancer have also masturbated and worn cotton socks more than five times per week, on average.

I started the Atkins thing over 10 years ago. Best change I ever made. Have been eating 10-12 eggs weekly for years. Don’t smoke, exercise well, black belt in Karate and brown in Judo, not overweight and zero problems with prostrate. And my diet is fairly healthy. Bee pollen and other vitamins often!
Just blew that freakin “study!”

80% is a relative risk factor of 1.8, which is below the 100% threshold, or relative risk factor of 2, and can be safely ignored. Anything between 2.0 (100%) and 3.0 (200%) should be viewed skeptically and much more in the way of study results should be demanded before accepting it.
The above is standard scientific methodology. No doubt it is the basis for the cancer groups saying the link (which is not a “link”) could be due to other factors, like just about anything, not to mention it could be due to a bunch of individual factors culminating in the 80% probability.

It doesn’t even pass the coherence test since there is no control group, so I’d chalk that up to the writer. I could be wrong, though; how much more likely are cancer group spokesmen to be public relations grads than scientists?

To be followed in 6 months by a story reporting research that eating eggs prevents prostate cancer.
