…and for one brief and shining moment, he had them there, in the palm of his hand. Then they quickly forgot his name again and turned back to the others.
Attribution would have been the way to go. Enough people listen to Rush so that it will be widely remarked on by tomorrow. It’s not his fault that he being given the best line of the night award.
Lifting lines from Rush? Wow. That’s weapons-grade dumb. It’s not like the guy gets any airtime.

All due respect to Rush (and Gev. Johnson), have read a few very close variations of this joke before yesterday, and more than once, by anonymous blog commenters within the last few weeks. At least a couple of them, IIRC, on Hot Air.
Let’s face it, it’s a really good joke, but “shovel ready” is pretty much a “hit the barn” target as jokes go. Meh – I give him a pass on this one and glad he got at least one good line in last night.

A good line is worth repeating or rephrasing anytime. Not dumb and if anything for the dittoheads, an affirmation /dog whistle that Gary listens to Rush. And you want to be offended over that?
By mentioning Rush, he might have turned off those who don’t like Rush or talk radio, so using an unnamed neighbor is neutral.
Frankly, not withstanding his nervous tics, I’d rather vote for him over Mitt any day.
Blowback

This was funnier when Rush said it seven hours earlier.

And tomorrow when it comes out that Rush said the same thing earlier on his show, it will be view in entirely different light.

It was funnier when Rush Limbaugh said it today:

Ouch. I didn’t realize the part about Rush. I wonder if he’ll mention that during the show tomorrow?///

Agreed!

Rush is off tomorrow, Steyn is in for him.
But major league dumb given the audience.
Iblis on September 23, 2011 at 12:05 AM
I think a good line is meant to be used, many people in the audience probably don’t listen to Rush.

If he lifted the line from Rush, he should have just said “Rush Limbaugh’s dogs have…”, the line would have been just as funny if not funnier.
I doubt Rush cares though, he’ll just be happy that line will be in all the papers making Obama look bad.
