Marines seek recruits at Oklahoma gay center
The Marines were at the gay rights center at the invitation of Toby Jenkins, the center’s executive director, who said he saw no better way to celebrate the end of “don’t ask, don’t tell” in a conservative state that strongly supports the military.
“If we’ve been fighting for 15 years for the right to be in the military, we said, ‘Let’s just ask military recruiters if they’d be available,’ ” he said. “But no one was prepared for that question. It was like I was talking to people like they were deer in the headlights.”
The Marines did in fact think that Mr. Jenkins’s invitation might be a hoax, so they checked him out and talked to their superiors, who talked to their superiors. Then they took a deep breath and decided to go. As the day wore on, the Marines said the bust in recruiting had been made up for in media exposure and public relations. Sergeant Henry and his public affairs officer, Capt. Abraham Sipe, gave interviews at the center with five local television stations, three print reporters and one correspondent for National Public Radio. In between, gay rights supporters stopped by to shake their hands…
By 5 p.m. the Marines had packed up their booth and chin-up bar and headed out, with plans to come back later to attend a panel discussion. It was all uncharted territory. As Sergeant Henry had said the day before of the new world the Marines now inhabit, “At first it’s going to be kind of shock and awe.”
But like a good Marine, he was with the program: “My take is, if they can make it through our boot camp, which is the toughest boot camp in the world, then they ought to have the opportunity to wear the uniform.”

The gay sensitivity training that is now happening in the military due to the repeal of DADT. Straight soldiers need to be nice to gay soldiers OR ELSE!
RedRobin145 on September 21, 2011 at 11:52 AM
And all you haters just remember, promotion of the agenda is “not” an attack on your religious beliefs.
I hate haters.
hawkdriver on September 21, 2011 at 11:53 AM
Who knew that the 14th Ammendment was written so that the government could dole out benefits to special groups?
If the 14th Ammendment applies to straight couples and gay couples then why not single people are people who co-habitate? Sounds like we’re discriminating against those who aren’t in a stable relationship or don’t want to get “married”.

What a dreadful idea!

There are only 2 things I hate – intolerance for other’s beliefs and the Dutch.

Try that again with someone that has’t had his family broken up in order to form one of those “mother-mother” pairs.

Why? Because of all their dykes?

Once the economy improves, as it inevitably will once the death-grip of the 0bama regime is lifted, that trickle will become a flood.

Perhaps we should deny marriage benefits to divorcees.
Pablo Honey on September 21, 2011 at 12:17 PM
Sorry, but this story does nothing but support those who were skeptical about the supposed desire of gays to serve in the military and outright opposed to this social engineering stunt.
Faux bravado, greeted with the usual military logic. “OK…we’ll be there.”
What a surprise. Just a stupid stunt.
Jaibones on September 21, 2011 at 12:18 PM
And how is this “special treatment”?
When the military was integrated, there was training. When women were allowed, there was training. Are minorities and women getting special treatment?
JetBoy on September 21, 2011 at 12:18 PM
The greatest sin in the 21st Century? Judgment.
As for the Dutch, I like tall guys.
Jaibones on September 21, 2011 at 12:19 PM
Best comment on the thread.
hawkdriver on September 21, 2011 at 12:21 PM
Do demands that women or minorities be represented in the ranks of officers promote special treatment? Are women or minorites promoted with consideration of their gender or race?
NotCoach on September 21, 2011 at 12:22 PM
Wearing glasses is a lifestyle choice.
oops, wrong thread.
Jeddite on September 21, 2011 at 12:24 PM
I’m familiar with more folks than just that couple actively seeking to depart the military now. An LT I’ve worked with is having a harder time with it because he’s a West Point grad. He is considering the move even if it entails restitution of some or all of his education there. He is as of last month deployed with the 82ND CAB and might have to stay the whole year deployed. But he’s still actively working on it as he serves in RC East.
hawkdriver on September 21, 2011 at 12:27 PM
Ah, the usual suspects. Surprised astronii (sp?) isn’t here yet calling for the open stoning of gays in the streets.
Great attitude.
mythicknight on September 21, 2011 at 12:29 PM
Glad to see you made it though to inject your baseless ad hominem. What would a thread full of adults be without a child wondering in on occassion to seek some attention.
NotCoach on September 21, 2011 at 12:31 PM
How very interesting to insert a possible comment from a possible commenter! How very ethical of you!
Cindy Munford on September 21, 2011 at 12:35 PM
This is where the big problem will come as we go forward.
There are “inherent” differences between the two relationships. In the most simple case, a heterosexual relationship can produce children, a homosexual one, cannot.
Don’t infer my support in opposition to any political position from the above, I am merely pointing out that when supporters make illogical and untrue statements they set the entire argument back.
As for “rights”, is there some “right” that is guaranteed to heterosexual couples that is not guaranteed to heterosexual ones. Claiming “rights” incorrectly is dangerous and makes the foundation of the argument faulty.
This is going to be a problem going forward. If your foundations are improper, your structure won’t stand the test of time. By exaggerating their “oppression” activists may achieve short-term victories, but the worm will turn.
Jason Coleman on September 21, 2011 at 12:36 PM
It happened last month, and only a few called him out on it. I’ll look for the link to satiate your ethical concerns.
mythicknight on September 21, 2011 at 12:42 PM
I commented earlier, but it went into moderation. Here’s the link to my comment.
In short, there’s a lot of reasons to not promote the homosexual agenda that have nothing to do with bigotry or “homophobia.”
Vanceone on September 21, 2011 at 12:46 PM
As the usual suspects here. I’m surprised myhicknight hasn’t showed up to invent some comments …
Oh wait!
hawkdriver on September 21, 2011 at 12:46 PM
Ok, mythickknight. I was at a party last month, and someone said that yellow people had slanty eyes.
That means you’re a racist.
That’s your logic here, right?
Jason Coleman on September 21, 2011 at 12:47 PM
As a matter of fact MTN, I was wished physical harm from a gay agenda supporter repeatedly on a thread and one one called them on it.
Put on your big boy pants and paste your comment. Them I’ll go get mine. Or, we can just stick with what is germane to the argument and what is actually said.
hawkdriver on September 21, 2011 at 12:54 PM
“no” one ….
hawkdriver on September 21, 2011 at 12:59 PM
If he is not here now, maybe he was chastened enough not to repeat the offense. We all appreciate you letting his error live on and coloring the current conversation. How very transparent of you.
Cindy Munford on September 21, 2011 at 1:07 PM
hawkdriver, I’m sorry you had physical harm wished on you by a gay rights supporter. But that’s par for the course, I think: Even Jetboy is on record as saying that little old women holding crosses “deserve” what they get if they protest gay rights.
The gay rights movement is not very far away from violence in the best of times. History is full of examples.
Vanceone on September 21, 2011 at 1:07 PM
He keeps bringing that up…I never saw it, and I’m not saying it didn’t happen either, and I certainly don’t wish physical harm on those with whom I disagree. I believe he called me out for not saying anything at the time…and believe me had I seen anything like that I certainly would have said something…I do it with those on “my side” all the time when I feel it need be said.
JetBoy on September 21, 2011 at 1:12 PM
JetBoy: your more exact wording was something along the line of “What else can you expect? You are an idiot if you protest gay rights; you should expect a pushback.” And you repeatedly at the time declined invitations to condemn the gay rights mob surrounding and harassing, intimidating, etc.
It’s not that you endorsed it, it is that you fail to condemn these things until you are pressed to explicitly do so. Your first instinct, and this has been shown repeatedly with these kinds of stories is, “What is the big deal? So what if the gay rights people mobbed/invaded a church/spewed graffitti everywhere/whatever; can’t you understand that they were provoked by those ingrate bigots! It’s only natural to react this way! If you don’t want that reaction, don’t be a bigot!” That absolves the gay rights movement, and until you are pressed to explicitly say you don’t think physical violence is a way to get the movement across, you generally tend to take the pro gay rights position, even when there IS violence against a “straight” person.
Vanceone on September 21, 2011 at 1:20 PM
Total and complete BS. It’s crud like this that pisses me off. Not one thing you said there is the truth. Not one.
JetBoy on September 21, 2011 at 1:35 PM
You don’t agree? Prove me wrong then. Show me where the very first post you make on a topic involving some gay rights group getting out of line is where you condemn them, without any excuse or BS about “yes, they were wrong but….”
I’ve yet to see it. Ever. It’s always some reason why the gays, while wrong, need to be understood as why they are feeling that way….
Seriously, I’ve never seen you flat out, without conditions or equivocations, as your first statement on the subject, condemn the actions of a gay party. Usually you will get around to it, but that’s after you plead the case of the gay rights movement somehow.
Vanceone on September 21, 2011 at 1:47 PM
You made the accusation…you prove it.
JetBoy on September 21, 2011 at 2:06 PM
Prove it, he says… Let’s see. November, 2008. The Proposition 8 riots. Gays beating up women, marching, mailing white powder to LDS temples. Remember those times, Jetboy?
Let’s look at two threads on the subject. First one, entitled “Open season on Mormonism.” Here is your first post on the thread. Let’s quote it, shall we?
Nothing but Gay apologetics, and “please understand the poor gays!” The old woman? “She knew what she was getting into.” And here is Esthier, a long time poster, calling you out on that comment, JetBoy. Lots of other comments after that post too, JetBoy.
Second example. Again from that month. This time, a thread entitled “Time for another ‘enraged Anti-prop 8 mob’ video.” Again, Jetboy, your first post is here. Lots of angst about the gays mobbing? Nope! It’s a complaint to Allahpundit about why did he have to post that video. Your second post, at 6:07, is classic blaming the victims. If you march there, expect a riot! Your exact words: What the HE(CK) are these people doing marching around The Castro fer cripes sake? Once again, their choice of venue leads me to believe they were looking for a riot.
And they got one. Cheers!”
Close quote.
I’m not the only one, JetBoy, who has noticed it. Look at the conversation between you and MadisonConservative in thread. Look at SaltySam in that thread. Just on that page of the thread! You openly come out and say the gay right opponents are asking for it! Post you made at 6:10:
I’ve proven MY case, JetBoy. It’s up to you to show otherwise.
Vanceone on September 21, 2011 at 2:37 PM
Oh, and I found it. That thread wherein the old lady was being assaulted by the tolerant gay community. Such a vile event that the very first post is Allah warning people to be civil, else there would be bannings. JetBoys first comment was, naturally, about how this is unacceptable, right?. Right? Nope! It’s a commiseration with Allahpundit about namecalling.
And here is your first post addressing the topic at hand. Let’s quote, shall we?
So you are doing exactly what I said… not “condoning the attack, but…” and then making excuses.
The next several pages are full of you trying to explain the behavior and so forth of the gays, saying stuff about “second class citizens.” and wailing about choice. There’s a reason, JetBoy, that those of us on this site for a while say you excuse this stuff. It’s because you DID. Read that thread yourself. You were fully in the tank for the poor, picked on gays, and you were saying how it was, in fact, excusable and understandable how the poor gays are reacting here.
Vanceone on September 21, 2011 at 2:51 PM
JetBoy kinda walked into that buzzsaw.
Seriously JetBoy, did you not realize the phrase “homemade cross weapon of taunt” wouldn’t be remembered or googleable.
Jason Coleman on September 21, 2011 at 2:59 PM
One last comment, JetBoy, then I’m done. AllahPundit himself totally took you to school in the thread about time for another gay riot.
Here’s his post, as directed to you, JetBoy:
If Allahpundit is stating you are blaming the victim, and he’s a well known RINO candy-ass, as he calls it, and actually states in the thread that he would have voted against prop 8… well, you are toast. You are blaming the victim, JetBoy, and have had a history of doing so.
So I don’t want to hear your sob story about how I’m picking on you by calling you out on this. You were fully in the tank for excusing and tolerating and understanding gay violence back in 08.
Vanceone on September 21, 2011 at 3:08 PM
Well done. And jetboy, return to the thread later and I’ll show you the wishes that physical violence come to me.
