MSNBC
Study: An hour of TV can shorten your life by 22 minutes
An extrapolation of these figures found that a single hour of TV was responsible for the loss of just under 22 minutes of life, the news agency reported.
Smoking two cigarettes has approximately the same effect.
The problem is not actually TV itself but the lack of activity by the viewer for long periods, the researches said. Cardiovascular disease, diabetes, excess weight and other health problems are associated with a sedentary lifestyle.

What if you skip the commercials?

An hour of MSNBC can make you want to kill yourself.
That was too easy.

What is more likely:
1) I would have lived to 142, otherwise I’d be dead by now.
or
2) This “study” is full of crap.
You…make the call.

Oh that’s ridiculous. These correlation studies are really BS.

The studied also showed that an hour on HotAir can shorten your life by 33 minutes.

So add “TV watching” to the list of prohibited activities to qualify for ObamaCare. Smoker? No care for you! Obesity? No Care! TV Watcher? GTFO the ER!

So what they’re really saying is that an hour of sitting and doing very little movement is what lowers your life expectancy.

Sec. Vilsak just called to explain all of this to you wingnuts; there are 60 minutes in an hour, so if you spend an hour watching TV your life will be shortened by 22 minutes, however there are still 38 more minutes in that hour that will go to lengthening your lifespan. So, if you quit your job, go on food stamps, and spend all day watching we’ll all be rich and live forever.
Any questions?
BuckNutty on August 16, 2011 at 4:51 PM
Wouldn’t life expectancy be plummeting if this were true?
changer1701 on August 16, 2011 at 4:51 PM
When I was a kid I probably watched 30 hours of TV every week.
So in a week 30×22 I lost 660 minutes of my life. In a year I lost 34,320 minutes. Over ten years I lost 343,200 minutes, which are 5720 hours, which are 238 days. All this just from when I was a kid.
El_Terrible on August 16, 2011 at 4:53 PM
Major wrong here. An hour on HotAir is a complete cardiovascular and mental workout that extends one life in a direct proportion to the time spent here. Double time if the trolls are out.

I agree that watching Rachel Maddow for an hour a day will shorten one’s life.

Working in an office 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year for 40 years will cost you 3.5 years of your life, and this is if you do no over time. All that time they had you couped up in school? Another 1.5 years gone. 5 years of your life gone, just like that, right off the top!

What? How is this any different from working at a desk? We’d all be dead by 40 if this were true.
