Thad McCotter calls for truce between GOP, tea partiers
“On the right, take note,” McCotter said on the House floor. “It is as unwarranted and injurious for a Republican to call a Tea Partier a hobbit, as it is for a Tea Partier to call a Republican a RINO.”…
“We cannot unite America if we divide the movement,” McCotter warned. “Consequently, the time has come for the Tea party to grow up and the Republican Party to wake up and come together to serve and save this great nation.”

I’ve always thought RINO is a goofy term, all of these guys are Republicans, just not enough of them are conservatives. The only real difference in the parties is who gets paid off.
Cindy Munford on July 31, 2011 at 10:08 AM
PROUD HOBBIT HERE. By the way – I’m still looking for a T-shirt.
And I say …
RINOS SUCK!!
In fact – I’m not sure RINO adequately discribes these idiots. They are MEN IN NAME ONLY … MINOs.
HondaV65 on July 31, 2011 at 10:11 AM
It took a while for that one to sink in. What movement is he talking about?
Is he talking about the TEA Party movement that wants smaller government, lower taxes, and an emphasis on personal responsibility, or the GOP movement that wants….uh..umm…. well I can’t identify any movement* in the GOP at all. It sounds as if McCotter is claiming the GOP is onboard the TEA Party express and is a full partner in “the movement”. I guess his evidence is Allen West.
*Bowel movement, maybe.
BobMbx on July 31, 2011 at 10:12 AM
Bottom line is – these idiots think they can somehow “break” the Tea Party movement.
Look – I really don’t think you are ever going to get millions of grassroots Tea Party folks to come around and support the RINO way of doing business – which is to talk, talk, talk, spend, spend, spend, and lament the fact that you don’t control all the pieces on the chess board.
I suppose the RINO’s could piss off the TP enough to make ‘em go third party.
I suppose the RINO’s could piss off the TP enough to make ‘em stay home – or vote for Democrats out of spite in 2012.
What does it take to convince RINO’s that their way has been a FAILURE for over 50 years?
How many GOP Presidents TALKED about shrinking the size of government and how many actually did? They all talked about it – NONE shrank it.
We had a GOP Congress and a DIM President and somehow that combination balanced the budget at least. But as soon as we got a GOP President – they completely lost the bubble and started spending again – into bankruptcy.
RINOS HAVE FAILED.
No “truce” for a losing ideology.
HondaV65 on July 31, 2011 at 10:21 AM
They serve a purpose, and are necessary at times.
Pelosi wouldn’t have gotten her agenda passed over the last two years without her moderate, DINO, Blue Dog Dems. Difference between the Democrats and Republicans is that the strident members of the Democratic party don’t let the DINOs act with impunity. They get them in line.
In the GOP, every RINO is allowed to act with impunity. There are no consequences for anything. THAT is the problem, not their existence.
blatantblue on July 31, 2011 at 10:22 AM
Yep. Apparently you have to be personally acquainted with a Newberry knife to be in a leadership position within the GOP caucus.

My response: “RINO!”
Emperor Norton on July 31, 2011 at 10:28 AM
I don’t know, when you look at the illustrative Republican pundits, I think the “moderates” run the show. At this point it appears that the Hobbits are the ones told to get in line.
Cindy Munford on July 31, 2011 at 10:32 AM
Tea partiers need to be rethinking their alliance with Republicans. The name calling is just the surface manifestation of a deep philosophical divide. They don’t agree on the basics. When you don’t agree on the basics, political union is not possible.
I’d like to see the tp’ers get involved more with old school Dems, who have been pushed aside by their socialist betters in the ruling class of that party and, in selected instances, with third party candidates.
As for the Repukes, TPers should not only continue primarying them, including some of their most prominent, like Boehner, they should also pick some races to endorse third party candidates and working class D candidates in the general.

I don’t care if people call me a hobbit but I do care when a bunch of WSJ corporatist sell out their country for greed by advocating open borders and amnesty. I care that Republicans never, ever keep their campaign promises to cut spending. I care that they lie about not keeping their campaign promises and expect that I’m an idiot who can’t see through their tranparrent lies. I care that Boehner seems totally unwilling to even consider and honest, above board bill and instead, every bill he attached his name is a fraud full of sham cuts, then he tells people who are trying to be honest to “get their azzez in line”.
I don’t care if good people that I have an honest disagreement with call me a hobbit, not in the least. What I care about is dishonest people who are more interested in their power and their greed then they are in saving the country.

So, we are schizophrenic, hobbits that need to grow up. With friends like these…
Hongqi on July 31, 2011 at 10:41 AM
The tea party doesn’t need to “grow up,” although it should learn to keep its powder dry sometimes. The GOP is already awake … to its worst nightmare. The GOP needs to “woman up,” as someone else might say.
Firefly_76 on July 31, 2011 at 10:41 AM
+1. I think we should appeal to more small-government patriotic Americans and fewer big-government corporatists who care only for power, influence and greed.

Shoot, I didn’t care when they called me a racist, I considering Hobbit as a complement.

The line to kiss my hobbit butt starts on the left RINO.

The Tea Party is the grown ups you petulant spoiled child. It is time for the GOP to wake up and realize their allowance is getting cut!
bluemarlin on July 31, 2011 at 11:01 AM
Hey Boner, instead of armtwisting, why not write a bill that ATTRACTS Tea Party votes.
Jerkoff.

I think Rush is righ on this. They really have no idea how angry, yet serious we are about gutting Washington D.C. What happened to the democrats at the state levels last November (and it was devastating) is going to happen on the national level to everyone who votes to continue to do business as usual-even for the freshmen that vote in the same manner. WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE!
SouthernGent on July 31, 2011 at 11:27 AM
Particularly when you consider:
1. The Hobbits in the Shire just wanted to be left alone. (Smaller government, anybody?)
2. The Hobbits were the only ones who stepped up to the job to take the Ring to Mordor.
3. The Hobbits TOOK the Ring to Morder and destroyed it, against tremendous odds, even the temptation to seize the power of the Ring for themselves.
4. The Hobbits went back home afterwards, not desiring power or influence or money, just to be LEFT ALONE again to live their lives the way they wanted.
Sounds like Tea Partiers, libertarians and conservatives to me–i.e., sounds like a compliment, really.
theotherone on July 31, 2011 at 11:36 AM
You are correct Thad we shouldn’t call them Rinos. That isn’t the correct term. I have a better term: Dicc’s (pronounced d1cks) meaning Democrats in conservative clothing. I borrowed it from the good book: wolves in sheep’s clothing.
chemman on July 31, 2011 at 11:51 AM
I think we should throw all the congressman who voted for Boehner plan out of office instead.
Spathi on July 31, 2011 at 11:59 AM
McCotter stepped in it
I am surprised, to be honest
1. There are not enough tea party supporters in Congress to control either party. They are a tiny minority
You cannot blame a handful of members for a close vote – it is the larger body that controls the vote and it is the party leaders who let folk change their votes when they know the vote will fail anyway, just to fool the constituents
Party leaders can also so manipulate the vote count, when they know a vote will fail anyway, to control where the blame will land
The minority is the scapegoat
2. What part of the Tea party has to grow up? The Tea party is not a party but a faction who want to stop the borrowing and reduce the spending. Members identified as Tea party were elected for promising this agenda
Hobbit is not an insult. Grow Up is an insult
Therefore I second the motion:
Call me a Hobbit and I laugh. Tell me to grow up, and I stop laughing
Unless the US follows Tea party and cuts spending bigger than the Republican establishment ever dreamed of, we will downgrade. If the US raises or continues the extortionist tax policies of the DEMS, we will downgrade due to constricting economy
If we downgrade, i.e. interest goes up while currency goes down, the Depression will be finalized.
If only Hobbits will fight this battle I join their army

After voting for every noxious union sack licking bill to come across his desk including Card Check, McCotter has a lot to account for. Go home, Thad.
gryphon202 on July 31, 2011 at 12:55 PM
I’m working on it. Kristi Noem is staring down the barrel of a serious primary challenge next year.
gryphon202 on July 31, 2011 at 1:02 PM
Grow up? The dems, indies and R’s that make up the TEA Party are the grown ups, Thad…

Think about it: If the GOP is now offering a “truce” between themselves and taxpayers, this can only mean that they have finally joined the Democrats in officially declaring war on us.
