“(She) told me in a very stern voice … that they were not going through that X-ray”
Andrea Fornella Abbott yelled and swore at Transportation Security Administration agents Saturday afternoon at Nashville International Airport, saying she did not want her daughter to be “touched inappropriately or have her “crotch grabbed,” a police report states.
After the woman refused to calm down, airport police said, she was charged with disorderly conduct and taken to jail. She has been released on bond.

Oh, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, someone didn’t want to permit their child being fondled by a TSA agent. Whiney baby.
ladyingray on July 13, 2011 at 6:07 PM
It sounds like this woman had a really, really bad day and took it out on a TSA person. I hate the TSA security theater as much as the next person, but I know it’s going to happen if I go to the airport, so I have no right to act surprised when it happens. Neither does this woman.

Here’s the kind of geniuses we have at the TSA:
TSA employee Sabrina Birge should be fired and her high school diploma revoked.

Advice to Ms. Abbott: Next time wear a hijab and yell “Alahu Ackbar!” and you will breeze right through security with nary a second glance from the TSA people.

Alternately, “sounds like a citizen stood up to the thugs.”

We need to stop travelling by commercial air and boycott the big airliners until they start saying to the TSA, “Enough!” It’ll be terrible for the economy in the meantime, but it’s the only way to reclaim our freedoms.

I thought the TSA just said last week that no child under 12 was to be searched?
ConservativePartyNow on July 13, 2011 at 6:14 PM
I don’t see why she should get that upset just because a government agent wants to fondle her daughter’s private parts. She obviously need some psychiatric counselling to correct her attitude towards designated authority figures.
Socratease on July 13, 2011 at 6:14 PM
I got popped again last week at RDU for the body scanner.
Every single time I’ve flown through that airport, they direct me from the old-school magnetic scanner to the body scanner and I’m forced to opt out for a pat down.
They just finished with me when I noticed them searching an old lady in a wheelchair.
Madness.

She wasn’t acting surprised, numbnuts. She was acting outraged.
fossten on July 13, 2011 at 6:21 PM
There are other ways, but if I mentioned them here I’d get banned.

This!!!
ladyingray on July 13, 2011 at 6:24 PM
If that were so, how could a bomb then be smuggled with the least probability of detection?
DarkCurrent on July 13, 2011 at 6:28 PM
This incident sounds like how they plan to avoid the patdowns. They will send the parent to jail if they don’t allows the kid to be zapped:

In other words, if the RSA can’t grope little kids’ crotches the terrorists will have won.

It was a question, not a statement.

You just gave me an idea. Someone could make a mint by selling hijabs in the airport.

My kind of mommy.

Isn’t she, though?
But, of course, she just had a bad day. /
ladyingray on July 13, 2011 at 6:45 PM
What about a protest of everyone wearing one of those?
It’s not a boycott, but it sure would highlight the PC absurdity we are living in these days.

pedestrian’s not slow. He/she just doesn’t want to answer the question.

The entire TSA department would be having a bad day if they tried to put their grabby hands on my kids. Seriously, though…something has to be done here. This mom had the temerity to do what all of us here say we would in the same situation. How can we support her and end this?
Bee on July 13, 2011 at 6:56 PM
Been a while since I flew, leaving for my last trip there wasn’t only the old fashioned walk through xray, but coming home from TN I had my 1st nude photo taken in front of a perfect stranger (woman). That was bad enough but once I got through the scanner I was confronted by a TSA guy staring at me with a cock-eyed grin on his face saying something like “Have a nice day”. The look really made me feel like taking a shower to wash away the experience as much as possible. Next time I’ll opt for the groping but I was in a rush this time. If I had a child Ugh! Good for that lady to stand up to it! I try to drive now as much as possible. Anyone fly between countries overseas – they don’t put you through this yet do they???
wubu on July 13, 2011 at 6:57 PM
When you’re right, you’re right. Please forgive me giving pedestrian more credit than he/she deserves….
ladyingray on July 13, 2011 at 7:17 PM
If this s**t doesn’t make a severe u-turn back towards the direction of respecting the rights of Americans, retribution will be carried out on some TSA officers by some very upset people.
And I will feel no pity.

Maybe a string of juries refusing to convict would bring about a policy change?

I love how freedom of speech gets you arrested at an airport.

For all, like me, who are inclined to respond and comment here: this is mental masturbation…i.e., it means nothing. Send your pithy, witty thoughts to your congress critters and Mr. Speaker. I just did.
Dingbat63 on July 13, 2011 at 8:01 PM
So Sabriana Birge doesn’t even understand that sonograms don’t use radio waves – they use sound waves. Radio waves and sound waves aren’t even the same type of waves.
So the TSA allows its employees to distribute false information to passengers.
blink on July 13, 2011 at 8:11 PM
And by the way, backscatter imaging systems most certainly use X-rays!
