Trump supports constitutional right to privacy, “concerned” about Ryan’s budget
Trump said he was “concerned” about Ryan’s deficit plan, citing concerns that the plan would “tinker too much with Medicare” and harm senior citizens.
“I think Paul Ryan is too far out front with the issue,” Trump said. “He ought to sit back and relax.”
Asked how he planned to solve the deficit problem without tackling entitlements, Trump said he would do so “by stopping what’s going on in the world.”
“The world is destroying our country,” Trump said. “These other countries are sapping our strength. OPEC is sapping our strength. We can’t pay $108 a barrel oil. It’s sapping our country.”

We’re just staring fiscal catastrophe in the face, but sit back and relax, Paul.

Sets him miles ahead of Santorum, but still light years behind anyone good.

I was over at Townhall, and the establishment sure dont want trump to win. They have a poll over there on Trump.
Wow, what a biased poll. What about, Yes, trump has a chance of fixing our debt. Or something like that.
Not saying he should run or not, just that they dont even allow one to select that answer.
WoosterOh on April 19, 2011 at 12:17 PM
If you were to some how round up every wrong headed idea out of the republican party and force it into one man you’d have Trump. He is an extreme nationalist who has gone so far as to suggest we seize Iraqi oilfields and is here promoting severe economic protectionism. He is a birther. And he also wants to defend entitlement spending. On spending he’s probably on par with Obama.
Either this man is just pure evil/stupid or he is putting on a great show.
jhffmn on April 19, 2011 at 12:21 PM
No. No. No. Too far out front? No. No. No. Relax? No. No. No. Go get them Paul Ryan.
sammypants on April 19, 2011 at 12:23 PM
He’s dangerous because he’s threatened to go third party. He could single-handedly give the presidency back to the One. Kinda makes you wonder why he’s doing this…
Darksean on April 19, 2011 at 12:24 PM
Loser.
steebo77 on April 19, 2011 at 12:24 PM
I think his sun is already beginning to set… he is trying too hard to seem relevant.
The Hot Air poll puts him into perspective.

I had been reserving judgment on Trump. That just ended. He can kiss my ass.

LMFAO. That was the first word out of my mouth when I read the excerpt.
If Trump keeps spewing this insubstantial garbage with no real policy position on how address it and he’ll be the Republican Obama.
Dusty on April 19, 2011 at 12:31 PM
Idiocy.
And harm senior citizens? They aren’t affected by the reforms, man!
MikeknaJ on April 19, 2011 at 12:32 PM
Yeah, that’s kind of where I was/am. It’s one thing if he’s just anklebiting on a couple of side issues. But if this is his view on essential work that people like Ryan are doing, forget it.
“The world is destroying our country”? We’re doing a great job of that all on our own (so far).
Maybe he really is a Dem plant.
Missy on April 19, 2011 at 12:36 PM
Well, in Trump’s defense, he thinks everyone’s daddy gives them a business and if things go badly, you just declare bankruptcy and keep on keeping on.
The man doesn’t have the slightest idea what it’s like to be middle class. He is so far divorced from the reality of 90% of Americans it isn’t even funny.
ButterflyDragon on April 19, 2011 at 12:36 PM
I’m over my fascination with Trump.
But I welcome his strident criticism of Obama.
BuckeyeSam on April 19, 2011 at 12:45 PM
It’s possible, but I’m thinking publicity stunt at this point. He was (sadly) making some inroads on the Republican side only because he was talking tough and being uncompromising. Now that he is wringing his hands and capitualting, I just don’t see who he appeals to. People who think Ryan’s plan goes too far and hurts seniors? Sorry that void is already filled by every Democrat alive.
Kataklysmic on April 19, 2011 at 12:46 PM
ROFL…..while it seems Trump is flaming out even faster than I thought….I wonder who the next great white male hope the ABP people will pick. Maybe a redo of Mitch? Or maybe they will try to build up Tpaw into some type of winning candidate.
I imagine in about 6 months most of the ABP people will simply throw in the towel and fall in line with a Palin nomination.

All you need to know
Donald Trump said that he thinks he can win as an Independent,
That’s your guy!!

Actually I hope that’s true as I really wish Hillary would get in. Incumbents who get significant primary challenges quite often lose (Ford, Carter, Bush 41). Of course that could be because only weak incumbents get primary challenges in the first place.
Missy on April 19, 2011 at 1:12 PM
If Palin had made just one of the half-baked comments that Trump has given in the last week, the MSM would have gone foaming mouth crazy about her incompetence and naivety.
They are suspiciously silent. Could it be that they are hoping that the GOP picks this blowhard to run against their favorite ‘Chosen One’? Or better still, have him split the ticket?
Just saying…

Trump budget: Take out 10 trillion in loans, declare bankruptcy, run away.
Good Lt on April 19, 2011 at 1:14 PM
As I’ve said before, it’s more likely that McCain was a Dem plant. Running around making nice to Obama, fleeing the campaign when the financial crisis hit – virtually handed the election to him.
fossten on April 19, 2011 at 1:14 PM
Are you a conservative? If so, neither should you.
Every single candidate or supposed candidate in the GOP field who have been castigated here at Hot Air as a “RINO” is more conservative than Trump.
Vyce on April 19, 2011 at 1:17 PM
Yeah, we Palin critics haven’t been touting Trump. That’s been the far-far-right, who loooooooove that Birther sh!t, apparently.
And keep trashing T-Paw. Let’s assume Palin gets the nomination…..it would be hilarious to see her choose him as a VP, and watch you eat your words. That Palin / Bachmann ticket you seemingly want ain’t gonna happen.
Vyce on April 19, 2011 at 1:24 PM
ding ding ding!!!
Missy on April 19, 2011 at 1:25 PM
Well, that explains everything with a nice little bow on top, doesn’t it?
There are people ‘on our side’ seriously supporting this clown? Seriously?
Good Lt on April 19, 2011 at 1:28 PM
I will support (virtually) anyone who makes it onto the GOP ticket, but that does not make Pawlenty a strong candidate.
BTW, anyone who is a Pawlenty supporter needs to stop using “T-Paw.” It’s the stupidest nickname on earth and it only makes him look more dorky. Not what is needed.
Missy on April 19, 2011 at 1:30 PM
I just realized…
Does he even know a constitutional right to privacy is a place holder for pro choice?
Too funny,
NextGen on April 19, 2011 at 1:32 PM
I noticed that too. He is probably laying the groundwork for his highly “nuanced” position of being pro-life and Pro-choice.
Kataklysmic on April 19, 2011 at 1:37 PM
Did you see the HA poll? He got like 500 votes. Not very many at all. People find him interesting and like that he’s attacking Obama, but I doubt there are that many supporting him. And as for the Rasmussen poll – look at who he’s up against. Put Palin in there and watch things change.
fossten on April 19, 2011 at 1:41 PM
Trump’s comment on Ryan needs the full context.
Politically, Trump is correct. Ryan is also correct in the need for reform and his plan is excellent.
However, Ryan’s plan is not prioritized in a way to give confidence to the people relying on Social Security for a lifeline.
Even if Social Security is 99 percent of the problem, is is critical to guarantee that Social Security will be tackled last.
This is where the Ryan plan is wide open to assault from the left. Everytime a conservative announces Social Security is on the table, a vote is lost. Such votes are hard to regain.
There is no point to include Social Security in Plan A. It should have been isolated in a Plan B, and Plan B should be publicized as the second stage, not to be approached until Plan A is installed
Trump articulated what people need to hear. Ryan becomes a target because his plan is unbiased. In a lifeboat, it is women and children first. This is a bias Americans expect. Ryan’s plan is right, but his plan needs to come with reassurance the lifeboat will not be diverted.
The next election could be lost if conservatives do not figure this out. Start on A, and promise A will be fixed first.
Of course it depends on what pols consider high priority before an election: preserving the payouts to their donors and sponsirs (part A), or preserving the trust of the voter (part B).
This is a problem and Trump cannot wish away his squish factor. We don’t need a President who guesses about the Constitution to avoid being pinned down. This is a deal breaker
In contrast, Ryan wouldn’t have fudged the Constitution, and he has the ability to fill in the blanks on his plan
entagor on April 19, 2011 at 1:58 PM
ROFL..MB? she couldn’t hold a candle to Palin.
I’m lokking for a Palin/Walker ticket. Tpaw will drop out of the race by SC if not sooner. His only hope is a good showing in IA.
the “polls” that you ABP cite show Trump polling massive support from Mittbots and Newt lovers.
Trump is nothing more than a fighting Mitt clone.
unseen on April 19, 2011 at 2:01 PM
for those that don’t think Trump is pulling support from the RINO’s do you think Rove and CK would be hammering him if Trump was pulling support from consevatives like Palin.
Use your damn minds people. the gop establishment is hammering trump becaus ehe is hurting them.
Go Trump! the more he is in the news the less chance we will have a rino in office.
unseen on April 19, 2011 at 2:03 PM
Yeah I know you don’t want to have your candidates compared to other candidates. It is sad. If only your candidate was the only one out there. the fact is Palin not only endorsed Ryan’s plan she said it doesn’t go far enough. the only candidate that has done both. If you like Ryan’s plan the only way you will ever see it pass is if you elect Palin it is that simple. deal with it.

This is a HUGE disqualifier for me, if it’s true. I read the link she included in that very sentence, and there was no mention of the right to privacy issue in the original post she linked to. Until I see an actual transcript, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. Could he really be that stupid?
RushBaby on April 19, 2011 at 2:19 PM
When you consider the GOP folded when the Democrats rolled out their attacks during the debate about the nothing cuts …
tarpon on April 19, 2011 at 2:25 PM
My honest opinion?
I don’t think he’s kept up enough on the nuts and bolts of law to even understand what that question really meant.
Asking if someone believes in a constitutional right to privacy is how you formulate the pro-choice/life question if you suspect they don’t know the constitutional arguments behind the law. In this case, she got the desired result, him saying he’s pro-life yet supports the constitutional right to privacy, the foundation of the pro-choice opinion. In other-words she was successful in showing him to be ignorant of the underlying arguments.
NextGen on April 19, 2011 at 2:29 PM
You are just so precious.
They hammer him because he IS a joke candidate who can conveniently – and easily – be used to paint Republicans and conservatism at large as unserious and extreme. For months, the right has fought back against slurs that their opposition to the President was because of racism and the assertion that a man of his particular background, wink wink, was not legitimately American, and thus unfit for office.
And here we have Trump harping on the most explosive issue associated with those slurs, and actually getting big support among conservatives for it.
It is utterly toxic to the conservative brand. It helps legitimize some of the specific “blood libels” labelled at us by the left.

I don’t have a “candidate”. I just noticed your creepy fetish has you brining her up on threads where she’s not even mentioned now. The topic could be ice cream and you’ll say, “Palin bought American-made ice cream before Mittens ever thought of it.”
I’m just saying you might as well put the lotion in the basket before it gets the hose.
Pasalubong on April 19, 2011 at 2:42 PM
You rule, Vyce.
Pasalubong on April 19, 2011 at 2:43 PM
Gotta agree with Pasalubong on this.
This is a thread about Donald Trump’s ridiculous criticism of Paul Ryan’s plan.
Why are you talking about Sarah Palin again?
Good Lt on April 19, 2011 at 2:48 PM
Yeah right. If Rove thought Trump was helping him and his candidates he would be talking him up just like he and bush talked up Spector and Castle as great conservatives.
Rove does nothing in relation to anything that does not help in getting his people elected.
Trump is hurting Mitt and other RINO’s and thus Rove and Ck are attacking him.
unseen on April 19, 2011 at 2:55 PM
Why attack trump over Ryan’s plan? All the other candidates except Palin has said the same thing or words to that effect.
debating something without context is insane. Mitt said basically the same thing Trump as said about ryan’s plan. So has all the other candidates besides Palin.
If you want to debate how bad Trump’s statement is about Ryan’s plan than place it in context.
