Dems: Er, sure, we’ll offer an alternative to Paul Ryan’s budget
Rep. Chris Van Hollen (Md.), the senior Democrat on the budget panel, is still weighing his options, the staffer emphasized, but is leaning toward offering an alternative to the plan Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) will unveil this week.
“It is likely,” the staffer said Monday, “but he’s still talking to folks, and he’s still undecided.”

Oh, this’ll be good.

Suuuuuuure. There’s no chance they’ll do that. Unless it’s a carbon copy of the Obama budget from a few months ago. There’s no way the Dems will go on record proposing any substantial cuts to anything(aside from defense). And they know they can’t propose enough tax increases on just “the rich” to make up a 1 1/2 trillion dollar deficit.

hahahaha! Nice headline.
Q: When the public wants spending cuts…..your opponent puts up a bill that features EPIC spending cuts…..what do you do?
A: Weigh you options.

The punt, the scramble, and will they make it to first base?
We are at the beginning of watching an epic game!

In otherwords…..he doesn’t have the first clue as to how to even approach this issue. Other than demonizing Republicans that is.
Put up or shut up Mr.Hollen!!!

Weighing the importance of one’s own re-election vs that of the president. Always a tough choice.

Ryan wants to cut $6.2T.
Dem alternative will be to increase spending by $6.2T.

2012 budget? You haven’t even passed a 2011 budget. With supermajorities in both chambers, and having a fellow Fascist-Democrat in the White House.

Ahh. But you’re ignoring a key piece of the puzzle….Americans are morons who think if we tax the rich, we can all have endless govt freebies. Just like Michael Moore says, and we all know he speaks the troof.

“We’ll produce that plan in a few… LOOK BEHIND YOU, A THREE-HEADED MONKEY!” *runs and hides*

The problem is Obama’s got over a year and a half til Election Day 2012. If he only needed to stall for a week and a half, he could get away with it. But he’s gonna have to propose some sort of budget that institutes serious cuts between now and next November.
Doughboy on April 5, 2011 at 2:30 PM
So far Van Hollen is just replaying a tape we’ve heard over and over. Republicans bad…cuts for the rich…hurting the poor…blah, blah, blah. He could be talking about pretty much anything Republicans have proposed over the past 30 years. If he wants to convince anyone outside his own base, he’ll need some new material.

Pretty much verbatim to what Rush said earlier. He also said he believes the press is trying to send the warning signs to Obutthead, that he will indeed be blamed for this, as will the Dems. So if the butt kissing press sees it…….

It will be “spend more” written on a cocktail napkin.
Chuck Schick on April 5, 2011 at 2:38 PM
It’s being written up by Rep. Wimpy. Something about payment on Tuesday…or 2020. I can’t remember which. Everybody gets a free hamburger though.

Now granted, I’m not an economic genius, but I’m pretty sure it took more than a couple days for Paul Ryan’s plan to get detailed. But I’m guessing Chuck is right with what the Dem’s “alternative” will look like.
darury on April 5, 2011 at 2:43 PM
It won’t be extreme that’s for sure! It’ll be full of puppies and sunshine, for the children!
spec_ops_mateo on April 5, 2011 at 2:43 PM
The “alternative” is to scream that the GOP hates kids and blacks and old people.

Yes, we have a plan, says one Democratic operative. Uncontrolled promises leading to uncontrolled spending. It’s easy.
Tennman on April 5, 2011 at 2:52 PM
Yes, their alternatives will be to either raise taxes an absurd amount and wreck the economy..
Or still spend like drunken sailors and wreck the economy.
Great alternatives, right?

Let me guess: a grab bag of liberal hocus pocus – green jobs, shovel ready projects and paying gang members to have their tattoos removed.

Hey Nancy, wheres the FY2011? Yeah, that’s what I thought, so STFU.

It’s called Tax and Spend-aka T.S.
Dr. Carlo Lombardi on April 5, 2011 at 4:25 PM
I don’t dare hold my breath for the Democratic version.. I am pretty sure that Obamacare won’t cover that kind of self-inflicting politcal injury.
Ryan’s plan openly dares the critics to take it on. They will certainly try, and they will fail. The election results from November past demonstrated the voters’ desire to actively resolve the long term issues. November 2012 will only reinforce the matter further.
In the meanwhile, I smell a government shutdown a’coming..
