Karl Rove now openly mocking Palin
One week before the 2010 midterm elections, Rove took aim at Sarah Palin, questioning the wisdom of her appearance on a reality show, Sarah Palin’s Alaska, if she really wanted to be taken seriously as a presidential candidate. Palin lacked the “gravitas” to be president, went a subhead in the U.K.’s DailyTelegraph.
Rove later tried wriggling out of his comments, as well as observations he made in a German magazine that tea-partiers weren’t “sophisticated,” being unfamiliar, as Rove was, with intellectuals like the economist Friedrich August von Hayek. But Rove’s backhands weren’t accidental, nor was he the victim of outrageous tabloid reporting. When I bring up his statements about Palin during our interview, Rove says only that he wished he’d made his comments on Fox News instead—before going into a withering impersonation of Palin, recalling a scene from her TV show in which she’s fishing.
“Did you see that?” he says, adopting a high, sniveling Palin accent: “ ‘Holy crap! That fish hit my thigh! It hurts!’ ”
“How does that make us comfortable seeing her in the Oval Office?” he asks, disgusted. “You know—‘Holy crap, Putin said something ugly!’ ”

Now, this is funny. Rove is on O’Reilly talking about the need for a no-fly zone over Libya.

Rove is on a growing list of talking heads who make me turn the channel when they pop up on Fox News. I have no use for him, and it’s not really because of his views about Palin. He’s just a gasbag, plain and simple. I pray the next GOP president steers clear of him.
NebCon on February 28, 2011 at 9:53 PM
Doesn’t the current POTUS have a history of rubbing his middle finger across his face to flip people off surreptitiously?

Some of these scenarios are quite entertaining.

I agree with Ace, people saying things about Palin is about as important as American Idol.

What the heck is wrong with Tokyo Rove…is he insane? Does he think that this endears him to conservatives? What has Palin ever done to any of these elitist, Barb Bush included, to make them hate her so much? Single handily save the Republican Party?
Tokyo go home already..okay?
CCRWM on February 28, 2011 at 10:22 PM
Single handily save the Republican Party.
You’ve answered your own question.
Why did it take Sarah Palin to help them? What does that say about them, their lives and their beliefs?
sharrukin on February 28, 2011 at 10:25 PM
Rove has always been an overrated squish. He’s just the only one that doesn’t know it yet.
The only thing he’s ever done for the GOP was got the swept out of both chambers of Congress.

Rove, you

Thanks. When I went through my spiritual growth phase, I studied the biblical gifts in the first book of Corinthians. I realized I had the gift of insight or discernment, depending upon which version of the Bible you read. I never understood why I could piece disparate things together and draw conclusions, but when I understood that some people have the gift of Faith, Hope, Charity, Love, etc., I realized I had one too.
I have REALLY PAID attention to this WI thing. I had NEVER heard of the Koch brothers before this whole thing popped up into the national headlines. We can thank the ranting loons on the news with the signs about the Koch brothers to raising the awareness of who they are. This article said they have pledged 88 million to the 2012 election? We finally have a counter to the soros money to get some message out about why we need smaller government.
This WI government union thing has pushed this issue to the forefront of being a 2012 election issue. Libya, Egypt, etc. are pushing up oil prices, so that is a “twofer” for the election in 2012. Not only do they bring out Obama’s complete lack of a clue in how to deal with these international issues, but the American public will come unglued with high gas prices. Obama already stubbed his toe on the drilling moratorium but cynically using the once in 50 years oil spill disaster to cater to the tree huggers. Now he really looks STUPID by leaving American completely unprepared to deal with potential disruptions to the oil supply, let alone the spiraling gas prices.
Obama has so many circumstantial things hitting him square on right now, that he has a HUGE HOLE to dig himself out of to even be a contender for re-election. Carter lost his re-election when he quivered under his desk dealing with the Iranian hostage crisis and failed in the rescue attempt.
Here we have an idiot in the oval office who has stopped drilling, lost the rigs to other countries who want to drill, did not figure in a possible disruption to our oil supply by having almost the entire middle east go up in flames, AND the curtain that masked the whole dirty alliance between the government unions and the democrats have been exposed in Wisconsin. These 3 issues almost make Obamacare a secondary issue in the re-election, like an “oh by the way, we all know obamacare is a huge failure, we will also repeal it”.
And none of the other candidates have ANY energy experience and I think that between Sarah dealing with government corruption on top of dealing with energy, no one else can make the case that they are better suited for the office in 2013.
Sorry Karl Rove, you are still looking at the world like it is a static thing from 2000, and NOTHING is the same that makes your style of politicing work in 2012.
karenhasfreedom on February 28, 2011 at 10:33 PM
Be honest, the Democrats have done more to save the GOP than Sarah Palin could even dream of doing. Keep in mind that the GOP is still wildly unpopular across the country, just not as unpopular as the Rats are right now.
uknowmorethanme on February 28, 2011 at 10:34 PM
Karl who? Is this the Scuzzafava guy? Oh, no, that was that other RINO. Yawn.
joe_doufu on February 28, 2011 at 10:39 PM
Honestly Sarah Palin is the only reason a lot of people even give the GOP the time of day. Without her they would have what, Squirrel Eater and Romneycare as their lead candidates?
I have absolutely no doubt the GOP will manage to achieve a Democratic victory in the next election. I don’t know how exactly, but the intrepid boys at GOP headquarters will do what seems impossible.
sharrukin on February 28, 2011 at 10:40 PM
But the TEA Paty isn’t and they will rule the day… We the People will save this country. We will get out the vote and we will volunteer as poll watchers to stop the massive fraud that you know the Democrats are plotting this very second. We the People will have to take matters into our own hands if we want to save this country that is going down in flames. My brother actually told his son yesterdy not to have kids! I was shocked because he is one of those father’s who really loves and is into his kids…it made me sad then it made me mad… This country will not go down without a fight!

Over at FR on the same topic, someone said this:
For months I have been trying to figure out who Karl Rove reminded me of so much. That finally made the connection for me: Rove is exactly Grima Wormtongue from Tolkien’s LOTR.
And perhaps Palin is analogous to Éowyn in more ways than one..
LegendHasIt on February 28, 2011 at 11:14 PM
I didn’t know people were still listening to anything Rove has to say.

After seeing Palin’s bitchy, ridiculous overreaction to Santorum a few weeks back, I bet you Rove is able to take whatever she might throw his way better than the inverse.
I know the Palinistas really don’t like it when their Queen is criticized, but I’ll tell you that if she doesn’t learn how to come off more maturely, the general public will continue to consider her as unseriously as they already do.

My my, we’re talking about NEW YORK magazine here! Not exactly a place to go to get the truth on anything. Didn’t somebody here once tell me about how the bad boys would get two girls to fight each other by telling each that the other had said bad things?
If I saw his own lips moving then I might believe.

New respect for Karl Rove.
He will have more and more company as the presidential campaign progresses and people start to realize just how inconsequential Palin really is. To the extent she will have any influence at all, it will be a net negative, turning off voters to the conservative cause.
She’s great at rallying her devoted, unsophisticated and numerically irrelevant troops. But the Republicans don’t want to lose in 2012, and any Republican with a brain (Rove, Krauthammer, Coulter, etc.) knows Palin is a loser.
Meredith on March 1, 2011 at 12:07 AM
But without Palin, they are the losers. And it doesn’t even take a brain to see it. There are people who will vote against the person who maligns Palin — or not vote at all. How many Republicans are Tea Partiers, do you think?
unclesmrgol on March 1, 2011 at 12:14 AM
Hey Karl, ol buddy ol pal, what about the 2006 elections?
Why do I ask? Shut up. That’s why.
A Balrog of Morgoth on March 1, 2011 at 12:45 AM
We have us a problem here.
If she is such a lightweight, why the need to bury her this early? Why not stand back until we get to the primaries and expose her for what she is? Lightweight, right? 100% chance, if one believes the relentless posters who show up on every thread even tangentially related to Palin to chant “loser, loser, loser.”
Political genius sans reproach Karl Rover argues that she is inconsequential yet acts as though she is an existential threat? Why? And why should I put stock in Rove? After sitting on his thumb for eight years letting the Rats make G.W. Bush into their own personal Jodie-Foster-on-the-Pinball-Machine. Heckuva job, Rovie.
Now go get your shine box.
A Balrog of Morgoth on March 1, 2011 at 12:57 AM
Tell that to the 60+ newly elected (with Palin’s and the TEA Party’s help) Governors, Congressmen and Senators from November 2010…
Gohawgs on March 1, 2011 at 1:39 AM
One of the biggest problems that President Bush had while he was is in office was that he listened to self important influence peddlers like Karl Rove. To me the fact that Rove keeps trash talking Palin is a good sign because it means that Palin is staying right the hell away from establishment beltway trash. They cant stand it because it means they have very little influence or control over what she says or does and that’s bad for their bottom line.
Hellrider on March 1, 2011 at 2:00 AM
Rove’s an asshat. Zero credibility. So now he is with his adulterous partner. Total asshat. Kingmaker of asshats!

Wonder if Palins would say – you know –
Wonder if Palin would say about the need for amnesty- you know –
Wonder if Palin too would say of a hug buddy connected to Abramoff – you know – “I wish I had known before the event took place”

You mean the part where she said it was much ado about nothing and he didn’t mean anything by it?

Is ‘santorum’ a filter word?
alwaysfiredup on March 1, 2011 at 3:06 AM
You mean where she said it was much ado about nothing and he didn’t mean anything by it? Yep, she should calm down.
alwaysfiredup on March 1, 2011 at 3:07 AM
Rove got the train wreck known as George W Bush two POTUS terms.
So, he knows more than most about these things.
Moesart on March 1, 2011 at 5:20 AM
Well, I agree with him there. Palin’s behavior and her shrill voice takes more than a while to learn to take in stride and from a President, well, Rove is right, it just might be a problem with that Perpetual Teen thing going on.
I’d like to see her behave less cursory, let me put it that way. And somehow learn to lower her voice when speaking in public ’cause the highpitched screeching just turns me off.
Lourdes on March 1, 2011 at 7:37 AM
Rove has my attention right up until the moment he starts pitching Jeb Bush for 2012.
Lourdes on March 1, 2011 at 7:38 AM
I’d like to see Gov. Palin employ him. Karl Rove is a hired gun and his beliefs will reflect that accordingly.
