U.S. to evacuate citizens from Libya via ferry to Malta
The U.S. announced plans to evacuate its citizens from Libya after Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said their safety was the “highest priority” during a violent crackdown on protesters in the country, which holds Africa’s largest oil reserves.
The U.S. embassy in Tripoli announced yesterday that a government-chartered ferry would take American citizens from the Libyan capital to Malta. The statement said people would be taken on a first-come, first-served basis although people with severe medical conditions would get priority.

Does the State Department have plans to remove personnel from other countries that are experiencing protests. You know any advance planning…?

I’ll be surprised if the 0 issues anything more than a strongly worded statement. Very. Surprised.

old and busted: a “US” president would marshal all US citizens in a soccer stadium, at an airfield, or other spot and conduct a forced-entry operation to seize the territory, kill any nearby threats, and rescue all of the hostages/NEO pax with guns blazing.
new and hotness: a slow ferry ride to malta.

The PURPOSE of diplomats is to deliver messages — “rhetorically strong” or otherwise. You wait until they’re gone to declare war; not to criticize a regime.
It’s really sad that someone who spent his whole adult life receiving a government paycheck to allegedly BE a “diplomat” has no comprehension of this.

Better add a few ferries and speed them up. Reports that western cities in Libya are falling to opposition forces.

What happens if those Iranian ships don’t dock but keep going through the Suez canal and decide to take a tour or the Libyan coastline while we are “ferrying” people to safety?
