It isn’t a good sign when the underbosses start to turn against the chief.

I find the report (unsubstantiated) that fighter pilots are defecting to Malta after being ordered to attack the protesters even more indicative of real deep problems for Muammar.

It depends. Libya, like much of the Middle East, is entirely tribal. This ends in only one way, the slaughter of most if not all of Quadaffi’s tribe, especially the men. He knows that, which explains the defection by the pilots and certain military forces. They aren’t part of his tribe. Others will be and will drop the bombs. This will be very bloody in the end. His son is right in that Libya will probably end up being partitioned among a few tribes. Those controlling the fields are not going to give them up without a major cut of the revenues.
