Report: Obama to use SOTU to call for … new spending
President Barack Obama will call for new government spending on infrastructure, education and research in his State of the Union address Tuesday, sharpening his response to Republicans in Congress who are demanding deep budget cuts, people familiar with the speech said.
Mr. Obama will argue that the U.S., even while trying to reduce its budget deficit, must make targeted investments to foster job growth and boost U.S. competitiveness in the world economy. The new spending could include initiatives aimed at building the renewable-energy sector—which received billions of dollars in stimulus funding—and rebuilding roads to improve transportation, people familiar with the matter said. Money to restructure the No Child Left Behind law’s testing mandates and institute more competitive grants also could be included.
While proposing new spending, Mr. Obama also will lay out significant budget cuts elsewhere, people familiar with the plans say, though they will likely fall short of what Republican lawmakers have requested.

Let’s spend money Americans don’t want to spend on efforts to stop something Americans don’t see as a problem. Then we’ll blame low approval numbers on racism.

And how many of those spineless Republicans who are sitting next to their liberal counterparts will have the guts to boo and jeer when “O” mentions more spending…?
The ‘plan’ is working out nicely for the commies…

Awesome. This is the best news I’ve heard in a couple of weeks. With a strong majority of the country deeply concerned about deficits, he’s going to use this moment to call for new spending. Sounds great. I hope Paul Ryan destroys him on this in his response.

You gotta spend money to get out of Debt. The Vice President told me so.

If the GOP members of Congress sitting with their new Dem BFFs join them in standing ovations when Obama lauds this spending and berates SCOTUS (again), I will spend the next morning berating the offices of my GOP representative.
BuckeyeSam on January 22, 2011 at 11:47 AM
Obama knows the House wont give him one dime for this nonsense, so this is nothing more than a weak attempt to set up the GOP for blame in 2012 when the economy is still in the doldrums. “If those terrorist bastards didn’t hold my wonderful plans hostage, the economy would be great shape by now.”

Paul Ryan is looking more and more like a brilliant choice to answer this year.

Larry Kudlow and Steve Forbes will be thrilled. Fiscal sanity means less to them than having the Osama Obama regime prop up their pals.
In fact, Kudlow was giving Immelt a tongue-bath at NRO this morning. The more money going to the Wall Street paper-shufflers the better.

But…but..bu.. (stuttering)… we were told he had moderated, he was the third coming (term) of Clinton…
How stupid can the GOP be? The GOP elite are eager to believe that Obama is a moderate and to excuse their consciences for voting for him! Wake up! The Won is a flaming liberal… possibly the most liberal president we have ever had. He knows what he wants to do with the country and rhetoric, bipartisanship, etc. will not dissuade him.
Go ahead and sit with your friends across the aisle, applauding while the country goes down the tubes!

Can we please put this to rest? If “renewable-energy” worked the private sector giants would have been all over it. It doesn’t, and the only “businesses” benefitting from renewable energy funding are start ups created solely to cash in on government largesse.
Trafalgar on January 22, 2011 at 11:55 AM
Ooh, more money for GE built wind turbines and solar panels that no one in their right mind would buy without taxpayer funded subsidies and government force.

If Obama spends his own personal fortune the way he spends other people’s money, he’ll die broke, unknown, unremembered except by a few conservative historians.
Of course, Obama doesn’t spend his own fortune recklessly which is how he acquires his great wealth. He’s a thief.

Well so much for that tacking to the center that some wishful types hoped might happen. This assclown is just going to put the pedal to the floor and keep heading straight for that brick wall called insolvency.
It’s better this way, tho. He’s got two years to accomplish his agenda (fat chance of that given the Congress he has) or he’s out. My dog could run against him and beat him in 2012 if he keeps this shyte up.

Everyone should keep in mind, he’s a master propagandist. He knows the majority of American votes only pay attention in the 6 months prior to an election.
So, he’s happy that government will come to a standstill while he butts heads with the Republican house. He’ll continue to pander to his base for the next year and a half. Then 6 months before the election, we’ll hear about obstructionist Republicans and how they held him back.
Then he’ll promise that everyone will get a pony that farts rainbows while he governs from the center. Because hey, he’s a centrist.
People need to make sure their neighbors don’t forget this tool’s words now. They need to be replayed over and over and over.
The MSM has given him a pass on all of his promises that have fallen to the wayside. We need to make sure 2012 he’s held accountable.
ButterflyDragon on January 22, 2011 at 12:23 PM
Most of these things are “underfunded by the private sector” not because returns are uncertain, but because they’re non-existent.
As a general rule of thumb, you don’t have to force people to invest in something that stands to actually make some money. Government excels at “investing” in things that lose money year after year.
tbrosz on January 22, 2011 at 12:26 PM
Palin is obviously to blame for this. How you people can be so blind and stupid, just like that awful woman and her brood of miscreant children and her cheating husband. How dare she aim her trailer trash opinion into this important speech given by the most important man to walk the Earth since
