Glenn Beck: Obama became presidential last night
“Last night, the president said what he should have said on Saturday,” Beck said. “A leader says that on Day 1. But it is truly better late than never. This is probably the best speech he has ever given, and with all sincerity, thank you Mr. President, for becoming the president of the United States of America last night.”

Doesn’t matter, Glenn, they are still going to slander you as often as possible.

He became American, too, with the rest of us!

Welcome to the underside of the bus, Glenn. You’ll have good company with Ed, Dr. K and AP.
Knucklehead on January 13, 2011 at 4:39 PM
OK, we’ve got CBS and HuffPo covered. Anyone want to provide a quote for Kos to use? Just a few more and Obama will have 2012 locked up.
Ronnie on January 13, 2011 at 4:39 PM
I really think everyone sets the bar so low on this guy that anything but a train wreck is “their finest moment”
Greed on January 13, 2011 at 4:40 PM
Even Beck. Look at the power John Boehner has in Congress. He postponed votes to calm things done. Pundits, all over the right side of the political spectrum picked up on it, and with Obama’s powerful, healing speech in Tucson, everyone is in agreement. Except for a few.
Skandia Recluse on January 13, 2011 at 4:40 PM
…so? What’s it like in there?
cjtony97 on January 13, 2011 at 4:41 PM
The dog got rid of one flea – big deal.
jake-the-goose on January 13, 2011 at 4:41 PM
It’s hard for me to get excited and praise someone that never had credibility to start with. So yeah, he read a good speech I guess. Big whoop. Tomorrow he’ll go back to being the socialist usurper.
SirGawain on January 13, 2011 at 4:41 PM
Well thanks for tellin’ us that this was (almost) the whole article!
‘Scuse me while I go take a shower! Get all this HuffPoop off of me!

Good Speech. If only the wrongs in the world could be solved by speeches.

Operation “We’ll kiss his @ss if you promise not to blame us for murder” has now begun.
SoxNation on January 13, 2011 at 4:44 PM
BO played President one day and the crowd got a lousy T-shirt.
Bet he’s golfing in AZ today !!!
stenwin77 on January 13, 2011 at 4:44 PM
Question now is, how long will he stay President of the United States? I doubt he will continue to strike last night’s tone for very long.
dczombie on January 13, 2011 at 4:46 PM
So a President did one thing that was Presidential. That still amounts to an epic failure for the firt half of his term.
I still don’t buy that this speech was so great, though. Yes, he had a couple of good moment. But it was a long speech, I would hope that the Master Orator and SuperGenius could make 2 good points in a half hour.
And if you consider that Naplitano and Holder spoke prior to him, the event came off like a political rally.
hawksruleva on January 13, 2011 at 4:47 PM
…so? What’s it like in there? – cjtony97
Kinda dreary, actually. Like it was designed by pessimists.
Tony737 on January 13, 2011 at 4:47 PM
So, since he gave a speech that reached the level of his campaign speeches in 2008, he is now “Presidential”?
Clink on January 13, 2011 at 4:49 PM
Question: Why do conservatives lose every battle?
Answer: Because while HuffPo and Kos are savagely attacking conservatives, conservatives say thank you sir may I have another.
This is disgusting.
angryed on January 13, 2011 at 4:50 PM
Pretty low bar.
Socratease on January 13, 2011 at 4:51 PM
I love it. He’s playing the left, like Obama played us last night.
Now, back to vitriol.
faraway on January 13, 2011 at 4:51 PM
Oh, puke! He shouldn’t have appeared or given a speech at all. Unfortunately, many people are injured and killed by shootings every year. This one differs because a congresswoman was shot. However, she was not shot over politics but because the guy who shot her was crazy.

“…and then his heart grew ten sizes that day!”
DrAllecon on January 13, 2011 at 4:53 PM
Ugh, Glenn’s no longer credible. It is not the job of the president to give long winded speeches after shootings. It’s the presidents responsibility to make sure the country doesn’t go bankrupt. Some regurgitated nonsense at a pep rally/reelection rally does not a president make. Glenn probably got a note from Ailes. If he gave a speech about balancing the budget by slashing spending and improving the lives of all Americans by encouraging economic growth-now that would be presidential.
andy85719 on January 13, 2011 at 4:54 PM
Fixed.
the_nile on January 13, 2011 at 4:55 PM
Thank God for Rush. It was not a good speech and it’s okay to say so. It was long and disjointed. He said some nice things that needed to be said, but he didn’t do what a leader does and call off his attack dogs. He was meek with that portion of the speech.
He didn’t face that much of a challenge, though. He just had to keep it neutral, and in that, he succeeded. To my mind, Palin had a bigger challenge, in that she was accused of being an accessory to murder. Her speech had to rise to that level and she succeeded.
yogi41 on January 13, 2011 at 4:55 PM
Thanks, Glenn. I know you’re trying to play nice, but the smear campaign continued unabated this morning(hell, last night really). So if he was so presidential and the speech so effective, then why do I almost feel like it never even happened?
Doughboy on January 13, 2011 at 4:55 PM
Glenn isn’t naive enough to think that this will get him an invitation to a cocktail party in DC is he?
angryed on January 13, 2011 at 4:57 PM
+10000000000
Agree Yogi.
Glenn, hush yourself.

It’s actually more fun to read the comments on the HuffPo. Doesn’t sound much different than some of the comments in this thread.
(((ducks as I run from the room)))
mizflame98 on January 13, 2011 at 5:09 PM
Beck missed Obama’s true goal by giving that speech. Timing, Mr. Beck, is everything…
The Left tried to demonize Palin and the Tea Party through what amounts to a blood libel. Despite Herculean efforts, the Left failed. The effort blew up in their faces. But so many elected leaders and well known pundits had jumped on that bandwagon needed a way to walk back the blood libel and save face.
Obama’s speech last night, properly viewed, was about giving the Left an “out” to walk back the blood libel and save face. If Obama was truly sincere about trying to strike a more reasonable tone, he would have made those same remarks on Sunday–not on Wednesday, after the damage had already been done.
Outlander on January 13, 2011 at 5:10 PM
So he’s clean and articulate.
davidk on January 13, 2011 at 5:14 PM
I personally believe that the most appropriate response from the rightwing hatemongers on this spectacle would have been silence.
darwin-t on January 13, 2011 at 5:16 PM
He went to a pep-rally for the left they billed as a memorial, the dead were disrespected of their religious beliefs, and this make the douchebag presidential?
ericdijon on January 13, 2011 at 5:25 PM
Excellent observation.
ericdijon on January 13, 2011 at 5:26 PM
He he, I got it. Give credit for a good speech, but going beyond that is too much. He’s still a one-world, Marxist freak.
yubley on January 13, 2011 at 5:54 PM
But will Obama STAY presidential? That I’ll believe when I see it.
Aitch748 on January 13, 2011 at 6:08 PM
He does have an excellent speaking voice, perhaps he’ll be in rehab in a couple of weeks too.

Is it better late than never, Glenn? Have you asked yourself why he didn’t say it on Day 1?
Yes, because last night was all about the great HIM.
Rae on January 13, 2011 at 6:44 PM
Many slimebags have been considered “great speakers”.
Godwin’s Law prevents me from mentioning the most evident example, but Mussolini, Lenin and others of their ilk were effective firebrand loons, too.
Beck becomes one more pundit duped by this meaningless by-the-numbers pep rally for the Left speech.
Obama waffled for days as his Bad Cop political and media allies slimed and slandered the right and blood libelled Palin, then Barry rode in to play Good Cop and the suckers are swooning.
Pa-frikkin’-thetic.
profitsbeard on January 13, 2011 at 6:53 PM
Nice Ted Williams tie-in. Zing!
Christien on January 13, 2011 at 6:59 PM
He was “Presidential” out of political expedience. He had no other course.
He is perpetually campaigning and the audience reacted accordingly.
DeathB4Tyranny on January 13, 2011 at 7:02 PM
Bravely coming out against mass murder has made Giggles Presidential ? Glenn Beck is now officially a clown. So are all the other useful idiots praising this thug. Barry’s moonbat base is now free to attack anyone they wish and beat conservatives like a rented mule whenever it pleases them. Falling for the BS Barry was shoveling last night is the equivalent of falling for the pull my finger joke. He has defeated his critics and they are too stupid to notice.
DeweyWins on January 13, 2011 at 7:16 PM
I hope he enjoys he new found popularity.
