Time for another bird die-off, this one in Sweden
Ornithologist Anders Wirdheim said the find was surprising.
“This is unusual,” he told tabloid Aftonbladet, which posted online a reader’s photo of dozens of black birds littering a snow-covered road.
“They are probably jackdaws. They spend the winter in large flocks. If they are exposed to disturbances, they can become so stressed that they fly themselves to death,” he said.

Man, they must have some awesome fireworks in Arkansas to kill birds in Sweden…
catmman on January 5, 2011 at 12:14 PM
So the FROZE to death? Maybe they should’ve flown south for the winter!
Damn you Global Warming! Speakin’ of, did you hear about the Russian ships TRAPPED IN THE ARCTIC ICE that was suppossed to be melting away?

Oh come on everyone knows that Bigfoot’s girlfriend (Greta Von Hairy, no relation to Greta Von Sustern) is from Sweden.
Obviously he took the black helicopter to Sweden and wacked some birds.
Negligent discharges happen.

Another thing that stresses birds: cold temperatures.

Hey Ted how did your keyboard get sticky…
Oh….Oh …Oh dude! You can aim that thing, ya know!
LincolntheHun on January 5, 2011 at 12:31 PM
heh! I see what you did there. Truthfully, the dog stepped on the keyboard and messed up the ss key. Now I have to hit it hard to get it to make a letter. I tried to fix it but you can get a new laptop keyboard for HP for $8. so, i’ll just change it out.

This is officially no-news news. It’s only a matter of time before they start with the shark attacks and radon warnings.

I’m only believing that because the backup dog (he who must whine) decided the forward arrow on my keyboard was incredibly tasty.
Dog is trying to commit suicide by trying to drive me to canineicide. Daily.

Canineivore?
They say the black ones are the tastiest. In Indonesia. True story.
TexasDan on January 5, 2011 at 12:52 PM
Sadly, the dog is a red brown so he’s not “tasty” by Korean standards, and now you say Indonesians wouldn’t eat him either.
Bummer.
I’m still without my 50 cal, yet, and backup dog is the smoking hot redhead’s.
Whacking the evil monster, mounting his head on a stick in the front yard and inviting the neighbors over for a doggie BBQ will not win me any favors.
So, I endure.
For now.

I saw on another blog that the birds were ones that had been sickened by the cold weather and were sitting in the road eating salt. Drivers were able to avoid them until a big truck came along and hit them.
As we’ve all been instructed by our betters recently, cold weather is caused by global warming, so these birds are tragic victims of your carbon emissions.
juliesa on January 5, 2011 at 1:35 PM
I just wonder what causes hot weather…./

The reports keep saying “physical trauma”, but with (apparently) no grossly identifiable anatomical symptoms.
Mass bird kills were also a common occcurance during the “Little Ice Age”, from 1650-1850. Back then, chroniclers simply assumed the birds had frozen to death in flight. But we’re a lot smarter now; recent developments in Politically Correct Scientology have given modern journalists tremendous advances — in spouting gibberish.
logis on January 5, 2011 at 1:52 PM
they think we’re stupid. We apparently aren’t smart enough to figure out that physical trauma should result in grossly identifiable anatomical signs…such as fractures, dislocation, lacerations…aside from death. If a human died, then fell down the stairs, we could figure that out. If a bird dies, then falls out of the sky, we can figure that out too. Buuuut, we have to ask the questions first.
ted c on January 5, 2011 at 2:20 PM
You’re not thinking like a Liberal Scientologist at all.
Capitalism is evil; ergo, Gia is angry. It is not the place of mere mortals to make before-the-fact predictions about such silly things as causes and effects….
All we can do is wait and see what happens. And then our shamans will interpret those signs to tell us what form Her retribution is currently taking.
