PBS edits Palin-bashing comments from video of Tina Fey speech
The part about rape kits and evolution was gone, leaving only Fey’s more harmonious — and blander — comments about Palin and politics: “I would be a liar and an idiot if I didn’t thank Sarah Palin for helping get me here tonight. My partial resemblance and her crazy voice are the two luckiest things that ever happened to me. All kidding aside, I’m so proud to represent American humor, I am proud to be an American, and I am proud to make my home in the ‘not real’ America. And I am most proud that during trying times, like an orange [terror] alert, a bad economy or a contentious election that we as a nation retain our sense of humor.”
Was PBS shielding its viewers from Fey’s more pointed remarks?
“It was not a political decision,” responded Peter Kaminsky, one of the broadcast’s executive producers. “We had zero problems with anything she said.”

They edit the real Palin, why shouldn’t they edit the fake one too?

She’s our poster-girl, but it’s an awkward time. Tote-bag?

A chill wind blows. And it comes from Tina Fey’s heart.

Rent-free? Palin’s got a sprawling mansion in Tina Fey’s head.

Oh, man, I hope you’re right … if only to get those stiff-wallet liberals to start funding the crap they love.
MeatHeadinCA on November 16, 2010 at 9:49 PM
That her name is even spoken in the same sentence as Mark Twain’s regarding humor is ludicrous on it’s face.
Yuck.

Meanwhile PBS orders a fresh supply of live chickens, the others being ‘too tired’ to breathe any more.
GnuBreed on November 16, 2010 at 9:50 PM
I can’t wait to see Gwen Iffil have a nervous breakdown on the air during Sarah’s acceptance speech at the RNC.

Can you say “slashed funding”? I knew you could.

Imagine… Gwennie reduced to having to beg for a job from the extremist MSNBCers! Totally below her.

I hope there are still plans to defund PBS.

OT: Bristol in the Final!
ExPat on November 16, 2010 at 10:00 PM
Me, too, but I’m not holding my breath.
Ward Cleaver on November 16, 2010 at 10:01 PM
Having seen her dance, i don’t think she belongs in the final. I’ll bet lots of heads are exploding tonight.
Ward Cleaver on November 16, 2010 at 10:03 PM
LOL!!!!!!!!
My wife said Brandy must be in meltdown mode.
I don’t think Bristol belongs in the final three, but I think its worth it to see heads explode.
There are already people on message boards declaring that the voting is rigged because of Stuuuuupid conservatives who vote and don’t even watch the show.
They even claim that Margaret Cho should be in the final 3 over Palin (yeah right).
Bwaa haaa haaaa!

Very little talent goes a long way when you hate conservative women. Right, Kathleen Parker?

Yup.
Absolutely.

You obviously didn’t see her dance last night. She danced as well as the other three.
NoNails on November 16, 2010 at 10:13 PM
My wife says that Bristol got the same score as Brandy, the girl who went home tonight.
portlandon on November 16, 2010 at 10:14 PM
It’s a game. Bash conservatives, you get awards. Bash liberals, you sell millions of books, ala Ann Coulter.
You can keep the awards. I’ll take the moolah.
John the Libertarian on November 16, 2010 at 10:16 PM
Well, if what you say is true then neither does Jennifer Gray belong in the final. Let’s face it. Bristol (just like me) has two left feet – both made of lead. However, she has shown incredible character and poise in competing on national television in front of a bazillion people, many of whom wouldn’t cross the street to spit on her shoes.
Jennifer Gray is a professional dancer for crying out loud. I know more than just a few women that have seen Dirty Dancing thirty or forty times. I have no axe to grind with Jennifer -she has been incredible as far as I can tell, but let’s call a spade a spade here.
turfmann on November 16, 2010 at 10:22 PM
Bristol is a better dancer, than 0bama is at being president.

Hey, Scarface !
Shut up and try to be funny !
BowHuntingTexas on November 16, 2010 at 10:52 PM
No doubt PBS agrees with everything Fey said. The fact that Fey’s comments about “rape kits” is wrong and a lie doesn’t bother PBS one bit.
RJL on November 16, 2010 at 11:12 PM
P-B$ is not censoring her, it’s protecting its own interests.
Del Dolemonte on November 16, 2010 at 11:15 PM
Tina Fey was the lonely, chubby geek with bad hair before she lost weight and got a seat at the cool kids table. Now she needs to remind the cool kids that she is just as hateful and mean as they are .
Note to Tina : when you attack Sarah with proven lies (rape kit) it is NOT satire – it is propaganda.

You can kiss my very real American a$$, Tina Fey — you unfunny, untalented, and uninformed hack.
AZCoyote on November 17, 2010 at 4:18 AM
On the surface, this seems commendable, but if you weigh it in light of the sour grapes that seem to lie at the root of so many of her jokes, I have to wonder if this is sincere.
Can it honestly be said of the people that have all but dedicated their primary focus towards mocking one particular person with whom they disagree politically that they “retain [their] sense of humor”? Habitually scathing mockery may have its funny moments, but it’s not typically a sign of good humor.
Maybe Tina Fey is more diverse than I’m giving her credit for, though. It just seems a bit suspect following (or leading?) her edited remarks.
BlueCollarAstronaut on November 17, 2010 at 8:51 AM
I have to agree with this. If all your humor involves trashing people, then why would it even be a good thing to “retain our sense of humor”? If humor is just ridicule, then we’d actually be better off losing our sense of humor.
