Axelrod: I didn’t say we were ready to cave on the Bush tax cuts
Senior White House Adviser David Axelrod said this morning that President Obama has not caved to GOP demands on the extension of the Bush tax cuts, despite a report from the Huffington Post to the contrary.
“We’re willing to discuss how we move forward,” Axelrod said in an e-mail to National Journal refuting the Huffington Post story, “but we believe that it’s imperative to extend the tax cuts for the middle class, and don’t believe we can afford a permanent extension of tax cuts for the wealthy.”

So what is the over/under on Obama and the Dems letting the top rates expire? I’ve thought all along there’s no way they’ll cave in and extend them all during the lame duck session.

They’re not “ready” to, but they will. We have to think like a lawyer speaks-with convoluted verb tenses and reasoning.

What is a permanent extension?

This clown show could be emboldening our enemies…but, it’s pretty dang emboldening for me. Bring on 2012.

By explicitly stating that they don’t want a “permanent extension”, they are going to punt.
2-4yr extension on the upper-level tax cuts is what will happen.

If you like your tax cuts, you can keep your tax cuts.
That said, you can’t keep your tax cuts.

This is being handled really well, I think.

Usually it takes them 8-12 hours to reverse their initial reversal, so they are getting more efficient. Pretty soon I expect they will announce a policy reversal and then reverse that reversal at the same presser…

Remember, they “closed” Gitmo, so “not” extending Bush’s tax cuts is a piece of cake.

It’s just a shame that, by law, they were forced to wait until now to deal with the surprise ending to these lower tax rates.
