Alaskan official: Write-in votes for Joe Miller won’t count
In another boon for Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, write-in ballots cast for Republican candidate Joe Miller won’t count toward his total vote count. Alaska’s Lt. Gov. Craig Campbell, who oversees elections, told the Associated Press that write-in ballots for Miller will be tossed out.

Sharp eyes, Odie1941. I missed that. For sure the lawyers won’t.

Agree with the tweet, disagree with the write in dynamic and guarantee.
2008 and 2004 did not have a key write in candidate, nor did they have a “get out the write in registration vote” movement – whether “legit” or not. 150+ write in candidates appeared alone – and a national audience.
I do beleive she gets the majority of write ins – but to both assume they are “all hers” and/or any write ins for Miller wont be counted – but “thrown away” – it is definately worth a fight.
Also add absentee ballots to the fold.

I didn’t know there were degrees at play here. I would think misspelling someone’s name is just as bad, but they’ve said that won’t be the case here if voter intent is understood. If that’s the standard, then it shouldn’t just be the standard for only one candidate.

I believe it is a designation to inform people they were registered as a “write in” – not line ballot.
Line ballots , by default – should not need the designation – at least that would be my legal argument due to Voter Laws and voter intent.
