Why aren’t Iraq and Afghanistan bigger midterm issues?
The answer is very likely that the vast majority of Americans wake up every day worrying, with good reason, about their economic security, but they can opt out of the call to arms. Unless they are enlisted in the armed services — or have a family member who has stepped forward — nothing much is asked of them in the war effort…
This is not just about military families, as important as they are. We all would benefit from a campaign that engaged the vexing question of what happens next in the long and so far unresolved effort to deal with Islamic rage.
No decision is more important than committing a nation to war. It is, as politicians like to say, about our blood and treasure. Surely blood and treasure are worthy of more attention than they’ve been getting in this campaign.

I wonder too.
I seem to remember a death toll count every day at the beginning and end of every major new cast during the Bush Years.
They seem to have mysteriously disappeared during the Obama years. Even though some of the deadliest days in Afghanistan have taken place during Barry’s 4 year Golf Tour.

Is he really that dense?

Funny how that works isn’t it.

It surprises me to read the admission that we need to “deal with Islamic rage” in the NYT. From Tom Brokaw. Tea Party rage sure, but… Am I missing something?

You’re an Islamophobic Moron, Brokaw.

Yep. Under Obama’s watch, we’ve had the highest death toll in Afghanistan and we haven’t heard the media hardly comment on the situation… not that they would add anything insightful.

If I were as snarky as the overpaid newsreaders, I would call it a grim milestone. You know if McCain had won we would certainly be hearing it.

Because we know Obama is going to eff them up royally no matter how we vote in the midterms.
OTOH, hopefully getting some conservatives elected to Congress in the midterms will stop us from commiting economic self immolation.

I suspect that what he means is that we have to address the issue of what we’ve done to cause Islamic Rage.

Because there is no such thing as an Anti-War movement: it was Anti-Bush to its very marrow.
But you knew that.

He was batting a 1000 in respecting Islam but then……..Are you still allowed to say that in America?
BL@KBIRD on October 18, 2010 at 6:04 PM
When’s the last time you heard the phrase “grim milestone”?
Steven Den Beste on October 18, 2010 at 6:27 PM
Because liberals, leftists and Democrats are liars? Because in reality “deaths” don’t bother them even a tiny bit? Because “the war” was really only a bat with which to beat up George W. Bush? Did I mention that liberals, leftists and Democrats are liars?
Warner Todd Huston on October 18, 2010 at 6:34 PM
Well, when the CinC thinks it’s more important to take time to be on Mythbusters than to prosecute the war or say, visit the troops, we all just fall into his priorities and concerns. War, what war?
Oh, two of them?
Geez!
