Guess what Charles Blow’s writing about this week
The Tea Party is a Frankenstein movement — an odd collection of factions, loosely stitched together, where the head, to the extent that it exists, fails to control the body.
It has attracted hordes of the disaffected with differing interests, including some who’ve openly expressed their dark racial prejudices and others who polls suggest harbor more subtle and less visible biases. Opposition to President Obama triggers a political Pavlovian response among some of these people, and they want to ally themselves with others around a common enemy.
It’s unlikely that appeals from the top, however earnest, will expunge them.

Honky rednecks???
BigWyo on May 8, 2010 at 6:36 PM
Wow that poll he cites sure does make his point. /
The people polled were not TP members. They also ask about gay adoption . I am willing to bet most blacks are against it. Blow is very selective in his reasoning and to whom he points his arrow.

Liberal lefty institution make a poll.
Liberal lefty institution reports the poll.
Liberal leftys smear their opposition based on their own prejudices.

one hit wonder, at least Herbert confronted an actual social issue today.

Charles Blow sux!
sonnyspats1 on May 8, 2010 at 6:43 PM
Blow is straight up hate-mongering race baiter. He’s the David Duke of the NYT.
Me no clickee on Charlie Blowee.
petefrt on May 8, 2010 at 6:44 PM
Must be that “dog whistle” thing I’ve been seeing so much of lately among the lefty talking points.
The Frankenstein anology is not really a good fit. The Tea Party movement isn’t a corporial humanoid body. It doesn’t have a central nervous system; it’s more like a nerve net. It more closely resembles a jellyfish. And this jellyfish is gonna sting come November.
apostic on May 8, 2010 at 6:45 PM
Charles Blow is racist.
Denverslim on May 8, 2010 at 6:46 PM
Attention seeking race baiter using obscure and probably skewed polls to support his premises.
jeanie on May 8, 2010 at 6:48 PM
Blow has to write this garbage to justify his cred as a journalistic “elite”. It means nothing to anyone outside his little circle of educated idiots.
In essence they write for themselves and their moronic peers. That’s one reason their circulation is dropping like a rock.
darwin on May 8, 2010 at 6:50 PM
The NYT comment section just made my blood boil. How can they be so dense?
redridinghood on May 8, 2010 at 6:52 PM
Wow, such journalistic excellence. /
publiuspen on May 8, 2010 at 6:53 PM
They are willing idiots in their attempt to stifle debate.
CWforFreedom on May 8, 2010 at 6:53 PM
Whoa, I guessed without even clicking the link!
Red Cloud on May 8, 2010 at 6:55 PM
It doesn’t support what he’s saying, but he links to it and acts as if it does. I think he’s hoping people won’t actually look at it. Not only doesn’t the poll back him up, but it’s a heavily tilted piece of crap done by some idiot academic anyway.
Here’s my poll question for tea partiers: Will you miss the NYT when it files for chapter 7 liquidation?
forest on May 8, 2010 at 6:59 PM
Blow is RAAAAAAACIST.
foucaultsvac on May 8, 2010 at 7:01 PM
I won’t give the racist Charles Blow the click. Or my time.

I can’t resist the urge to make fun of this guy’s name. Charles B. Owl.
fiatboomer on May 8, 2010 at 7:04 PM
I have a “Pavlovian response” whenever I read Charles Blow… I throw up.
KS Rex on May 8, 2010 at 7:05 PM
Charles Blow sees a racist Tea Partier under his bed every night. It is obvious there is no way he would see the TP in any other light, typical, never traveled West of the Hudson mentality. Out here in flyover country we are just RELOADING!
hpk1942 on May 8, 2010 at 7:06 PM
Just a mob? From Nazis to Stalinists to neo-Confederates to a simple mob.
Three weeks ago Blow was saying that the Tea Partier leadership was deviously orchestrating minstrel shows in an attempt to con the public about its true nature.
Now they’re just a leadershipless, inchoate mob.
SteveMG on May 8, 2010 at 7:15 PM
Leadershipless? Wha?
Leaderless.
SteveMG on May 8, 2010 at 7:16 PM
Who does he think he is – a sheepdog?

Freud is idignant in his grave.
The American people are indeed not as dumb as Mr. Blow believes.
Mr. Blow blows as usual, and is as delusional as ever.

It is easier than debating the issues like fiscal sanity and taxes.
CWforFreedom on May 8, 2010 at 7:18 PM
That guy has a serious case of race on the brain.
Seek help, Blow.
Moesart on May 8, 2010 at 7:32 PM
Yeah, wassup with that? It’s like he’s living in his own personal version of the movie Groundhog Day. Every week he wakes up & has to write yet another column on the Tea Partiers, except he obviously forgets week to week what he wrote before & ends up completely contradicting himself.
One week the TPers are a frightening mass of mindless lemmings walking in lockstep to the tune of eeeevil puppetmasters. The next week they’re an unruly throng of motley cranks, each following their own drummer, who don’t have anybody to rein them in.
Uh, I think whoever is producing the script for this dude’s head needs to ask for a rewrite, pronto. They’ve got a major continuity problem on their hands.
leilani on May 8, 2010 at 7:33 PM
Charles Blow…..he needed the money!!
OHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
cableguy615 on May 8, 2010 at 7:38 PM
If you oppose Obama’s policies, it’s because Obama has dark skin. It doesn’t matter if you stridently deny it, because you see, since most of you are not the same color as I am, it is obvious you are lying.
Charles Blow, moral exemplar and intellectual titan
drunyan8315 on May 8, 2010 at 7:40 PM
I love it when some Blowhard starts puckering up and throwing a tantrum while simultaneously throwing down the race card.
Charles? The Race Card doesn’t work anymore. Pssst. There’s a black man in the White House. Haven’t you heard?
Key West Reader on May 8, 2010 at 7:42 PM
Charles Blow makes himself into America’s Minstrel Show.
Congratulations, Charles Blow!
Key West Reader on May 8, 2010 at 7:43 PM
Perhaps a former theatre critic will untangle this plot tomorrow.
Yeah, I can hardly wait.

That’s all any of these whiners have left.
D2Boston on May 8, 2010 at 8:12 PM
Regarding the overwhelming number of comments that I saw there, I simply can’t believe that those people see what I see and come away with such a diametrically opposed view. How can they be so condescendingly un-American?
Go throw the race card at someone else.

Your analogy is even closer than you think, but in a Looney way!
Legendary Warner Brothers cartoon genius Chuck Jones always told his film students that the Looney Toons he and his colleagues created were never made for kids, they were made for themselves. But since they chose to make people laugh, instead of try to propagate their own political opinions, their work has endured and lasted extremely well over the decades.
Likewise, Mr. Blow, Theatre Critic Frankie Rich, and the others are creating Cartoons for themselves and their ever-shrinking cadre of Elitists from the Upper West Side and the Beltway.
However, the similarity ends there. Unlike Chuck Jones and his fellow visionaries, the only “analysis” they will receive 5 or 6 decades from now will be to analyze how similar they were to the dying propaganda organs that were active in Germany, the Soviet Union, North Korea and even Japan in the 20th Century.
Del Dolemonte on May 8, 2010 at 8:33 PM
From the headline was going to guess fellatio and/or cocaine.
I guess he needed both to write this whacked tripe.
profitsbeard on May 8, 2010 at 8:50 PM
How is that relevant to the alleged racist element to the tea parties?
Narutoboy on May 8, 2010 at 8:56 PM
I was born and raised in NYC, Queens. We fled during the race riots in the mid 70′s. Had a Great Aunt who lived in Hollis until she died. Went back after 911 = not so bad. Went back again in 2008. It’s like a different Country. NYC is A socialist nation. I won’t go back again. Upstate, yes. NYC? NFW.
Key West Reader on May 8, 2010 at 9:11 PM
Narutboy, everyone’s racist now. Since Obama got elected he erased 49 years of progress. I’m sure MLK is spinning in his grave because Obama only sees the color of his skin and not the content of his Character. Because he has none.
Key West Reader on May 8, 2010 at 9:13 PM
No clicky for Charlie from moi. His track record is already a bag full of bull, so no need to milk that cow.
I am Tea Party guy, Charlie, so what does that make me?
itzWicks on May 8, 2010 at 9:14 PM
I refuse to read the article.
So wild guess…Marauding Racist Seditious Teab@ggers, because that is what he writes about in every column.
Charles is a race baiting libertyphobe!
His obsession with Teapartiers and Obama critics is borderline psychotic. He should seek the advice of a mental health professional. Charles may Blow any second.
DeathB4Tyranny on May 8, 2010 at 9:15 PM
Racist.

Key West Reader on May 8, 2010 at 9:16 PM
What is this column and the propagation of the Tea Party = “racist” meme if not a blanket accusation?? Dolt.
Has Charles ever seen a G8 or WTO protest? Being “rabble” is the price of admission. Dolt.
Captain Scarlet on May 8, 2010 at 9:16 PM
When I grew up in the mid 60′s everyone was racist. Blacks hated whites, etc., vice versa. By the late 80′s we were all pretty much live and let live and by the time I started a family in the early 90′s there was pretty much an equal world all the way up to 2009.
Then came Obama. Now everyone is a racist. What gives?
Key West Reader on May 8, 2010 at 9:20 PM
This is just a liberal Democrat, projecting. Nothing more.
greggriffith on May 8, 2010 at 9:34 PM
Most NYT readers are raving idiots that read the Times because it is the Intellectual thing to do. They are lemmings that can not think for themselves. They will parrot whatever is written.
cobrakai99 on May 8, 2010 at 9:35 PM
I knew that whatever it was, it meant the rest of us were racists. How does this one trick pony stay employed?
