Dem congressman: Feds should refuse to cooperate with Arizona on immgration
State Sen. Russell Pearce, the Mesa Republican who sponsored the legislation, said it’s “pretty disappointing” that opponents would call on the federal government to refuse to cooperate with Arizona authorities.
“It’s outrageous that these people continue to support law breakers over law keepers,” Pearce said Sunday…
Bill Baker, 60, took time off work at a downtown Phoenix restaurant to sell umbrellas and Mexican and American flags to the largely Hispanic crowd. He said he wasn’t making much money, but he wanted to help them exercise their freedom of expression – even though he supports the law they all showed up to oppose.
“If I go to another foreign country, if I go to Mexico, I have to have papers,” Baker said. “So I don’t feel there’s anything particularly harsh about the law.”

I’m glad to see Dems are serious about solving the immigration problem.

In other words, it’s business as usual for the feds, right?

So…the feds won’t enforce the laws on the books that they’ve been ignoring for decades, then?

There’s a word for that.
lorien1973 on April 26, 2010 at 2:42 PM
That’s a change from the status quo in what way?
Vancomycin on April 26, 2010 at 2:43 PM
The Dems don’t care about immigration…they just want more people here to legally chain to the gov’t, and by extension the Dem Party. They don’t care about the rampant border crime, or the drain on border states; it’s all a political calculation.
changer1701 on April 26, 2010 at 2:43 PM
I think Republicans would be more than happy to make illegal immigration, and the proper response to it, the main issue of the 2010 election. Bring it on! Throw us in that brier patch, please.

If the feds refuse to cooperate, I don’t see why Arizona should support the fed with our tax dollars.
Skywise on April 26, 2010 at 2:48 PM
There’s a wise election year strategery by the Dems. Screw the 70% of Arizonans who support this law. Who cares about the drug trade, the kidnappings, the murders, or the cheap illegal labor costing Americans jobs? And now they’ll put the final nail in the coffin by pushing amnesty on top of all of this.

The federal government is way too busy giving illegals free housing and welfare benefits. It can’t be bothered to check and see if they are legally residing in the country. That’s just silly.
lorien1973 on April 26, 2010 at 2:50 PM
Refuse to cooperate? As if they have been? That’s why Arizona stepped up in the 1st place. The Feds have refused to cooperate for decades. Arizona should tell the Feds good riddence.
roninacreage on April 26, 2010 at 2:52 PM
Excuse me, but isn’t it the Federal Govt that is refusing to cooperate with our border states? Refusal to enforce the laws on the books is what brought this on in the first place.

Grijalva has always been a Mexico-first “American.” This is nothing new for him. (Last week he was calling for businesses to boycott AZ). But it is a good example of why we will be losing our national sovereignty if we don’t act soon to end this madness.

I would have liked the feds to refuse to cooperate with CA too, when CA supported City of Bezerkeley’s act of banning the American Flag inside the city , after 9-11-2001 .
I would have liked the feds to refuse to cooperate with CA when the state supported SF City council to deny US Marines to shoot for a TV commercial in SF
I would have liked the feds to refuse to cooperate with CA when the state blessed sanctuary cities to issue their own ID cards to illegals, while refusing to implement the fed laws in their jurisdictions.

So the Dems are basically talking about pitching a fit over something they don’t like. There’s something new.

Sadly I have little doubt this Arizona Law will get overturned. I don’t trust the Courts to handle this Constitutionally. Enforcing our borders and enforcing laws to protect those borders is so 1780′s.
Yakko77 on April 26, 2010 at 3:37 PM
There is full court press by the msm against this law right now. There needs to be other states that past this, then the focus will go national.
Oil Can on April 26, 2010 at 3:46 PM
I wouldn’t look for other states to pass it until the legal challenges are ironed out. Let AZ do the heavy lifting and then just copy the law.

Arizona should refuse to cooperate with Feds on healthcare.
jimmy2shoes on April 26, 2010 at 3:52 PM
The official policy of the democrat party is to ignore law you don’t like. There are several other laws I don’t like, so I’m tink’n I can start ignoring those laws too.
Sounds fair to me.

Um, isn’t lack of Federal action to enforce the immigration laws already on the books one reason the Arizona bill came into being in the first place?
